Congratulations Danny on a great win!

And kudos to Darren Appleton for runner up, showing last years win was not a fluke.

Did Danny play Schmidt in the semi's? Congrats to Danny too.

Yes, Danny defeated John and John shook his hand and said bring it home for the home team.

Danny H.,
Congratulations; I enjoyed your match against See; sorry you didn't get the 100 against See. You made an INCREDIBLE bank to get to 98, and were not rewarded for a valiant effort.

congrats to danny with the titel !

after viewing your dvd, and seeing this result, I can only admire your talent and consider you the best 14-1'er around.

Nice gesture on John's part. I hope those guys are past their differences. Life is too short and both guys seem like good people. Congrats again Danny.

This will allways be my favorite event at the DCC, Bob Jewett deserves alot of thanks for his assistance in keeping a spark alive for this wonderful game (14.1) in a classy and professional way.
If John said the quote above to me then I did not hear it, before the set started he did asked me to wager $1000.00 of his backers $ on the set. I turned down his offer, after I won I did congratulate him on his one pocket win while shaking his hand, but John never did say any encouraging words after the set to me. John Knows he has a tough game playing me in an all around match up, and I know it's tough also. I do believe that selftaught is wrong on his info about John's comradery after I won.
I never give anyone a reason to not shake my hand if I do lose or win, but I have seen many moves from desperate players in my time, it's not my nature to be unsportsman-like. But when a player does some of the things I have seen them do out of desperation that is when the true colors show, I think it is there way of dealing with their own fear of losing. It looks like my DVD are available once again sorry about the crappy label but it was my first attempt at an instructional DVD. I am not practicing as much as I used to but if I catch a 300 ball run on camera I will make another instructional disc with a better cover for people with aesthetic perfection syndrom.
Thanks to everyone who supports 14.1, I also believe that this is a game that does not get the recognition it deserves.

i absolutely told you good shootin and bring one home for the home team.
its on video .
by the way you have an interesting way of telling stories.
several people were there when i politely asked you to bet 1000 on the match.
you immediately flipped out like usual and said i dont want to bet 1000 but i will armwrestle you and put up 20 to 1 on the money. thats all on video or should be .

not that it matters but if your going to tell stories try to get them straight danny.

you know youve offered me 2 to one fighting and 20 to 1 arm wrestling . you should quit pool and join the ufc since your such a badass lol. what a joke

p.s. for the record if you want to play say 1000 points of 14.1 100 no count with a 15 second shot clock you got me.

you took like 2 minutes a ball against me at derby just to be annoying .like i said 15 second shot clock and you got me.

try not to go on for 3 pages this time just say yes or no and get the money please

Danny,

John Schmidt actually posted it on here. Either way it showed class for John to have shown some encouragement for you (even if he did not say it to you). I hope you both can continue to post here and be civil. You are both phenomenal players.

John: I've got a copy of the video and will take a look at it for you guys. I wasn't there during the preliminaries so I missed the talking beforehand. Elvicash did have a stopwatch going for some of the shots. I don't remember exactly but I think some may have taken up to 4 minutes. I'll check the vid.

actually, it was Jay Helfert who heard it and mentioned it:

"John Schmidt just played Danny Harriman in the Straight Pool Challenge. It was the semis, with the winner playing the winner between Hohmann and Appleton tomorrow. No one wanted to referee this match, so naturally I volunteered. My main job was to count balls, and keep them apart.

They only had words once, and that was briefly. You can tell there is no love lost here, but they both respect each other's ability. Danny had a high run of 56 and beat John 100-31. After the match, John shook Danny's hand and said, "Win one for the home team." (meaning USA). I thought that was classy of him."

Quoting Jay Helfert in this thread:

Jay added quite a bit of class and professionalism to the match.

He tried to smooth out some of the rough times between the players.

He had a deft touch and was quite impressive.

How about a 45 second shot clock? I know they did that at the 14.1 championships in the past and players seemed to get a rhythm and play well.

I was there for pretty much the entire before during and after. There was a little banter back and forth early on then I stepped out and I missed the lag, I watched the entire match from the opening break.

First I want to say I totally respect the game of both players. Each are straight shooters and have excellent play all around.

The match overview was John played pretty fast and Danny played pretty slow, Bob J made it very clear early in the match (he came up to get something he was reffing the other semi with Bo and Darren) that there was no shot clock John was mentioning and that probably slowed Danny down even more.

John got to the table after talking about slow play and he was flew through a rack or two and then totally missed a ball it went straight in the rail end of Johns inning and Danny ran out the match.

The match was much anticipated and we lost watchers the longer it went, since the play was pretty slow. On how slow quite a few shots were 2 or more minutes and some took 4 minute so that is pretty slow straight pool. I got a little bored and I started playing with my iPhone (no offense intended) so that is why I know how long the shots were taking.

Danny obviously wanted to win and he cinched every shot and position that he possible could. I do not think it bother Danny if this got under John's skin.

Danny played this match much slower than the first match I saw them play at the Q-Lympics but he played this match within the rules that Bob had in place.

Congrats to Danny on the match and winning the 14.1 event.

I hope to see you all (all AZ'rs) at the next DCC.

Congrats to Danny on his win. He's obviously an outstanding 14.1 player and I have tremendous respect for that. John is also one of my top 5 favorite players. I watched the whole match described in this thread and I think the other posters judged it just about right. John shoots quick and Danny is much more let's say meticulous even for someone who is a nut about straightpool like me. Anyway I am copping out and saying I like both players a lot and I hope to get to see them playing more 14.1 in the future.

congrats to danny.......

i was a bit suprised that danny wasnt included in the straight pool invitational by accu-stats. Talent Overlooked on thier behalf !!!

i should hope after this big win he is included in the next one. danny is a real force to be wreckin with in 14.1

Danny is definitely one of the better 14.1 players in the US. Maybe he wasn't available. I know Thorsten almost was unavailable according to the commentators.

Others who would have fit right in in that competition include Niels Feijen, Mika Immonen, Allen Hopkins, Oliver Ortmann, Mike Sigel.

I'm sure I've left some out. Even some guys like Dallas West, Nick Varner and maybe Ray Martin, Jim Rempe would have added an excellent flavor to the event.

agree ?

They are both very capable of running big numbers.

I guess it comes down to what Pat Fleming thinks will sell.
