Congrats to the Minnesota Outlaws, WPBL Season One Champions

...
JAM, sometimes I don't understand why you think it is American to hate the Pinoys, and the Europeans....Ken

Please don't put words in my mouth, Ken. Some of my best friends in the pool world are Filipino, so you're way off base with that remark.

Two of our game's legends in the winner's circle. No surprise there. Jesse is a solid young player, too, and I'll bet that his professionalism reached new heights just from being around Hohmann and Souquet, both of whom have outstanding career records in event finals.

Congratulations to all three of them on their fine play.

Jesse's "Proffesionalism" was already on solid ground! That is why they gelled so well. No doubt that this opportunity of playing with these two will strengthen his knowledge and confidence.

They contribute champions like the two on the winning team!!

What does the US do to contribute?
Do any players even play internationally?

This is enough of this discussion for me it will never end with you, it's never any players fault no matter what happens it's all the promotors and now it is the Germans fault. Maybe you should focus all your arguing time into organizing a pro tour with lots of sponsors so American players can make some money. Maybe you could call it "it's the BCA's fault" 10 ball tour.

Have a good rest of the day Jam

Quite so, and I certainly did not intend to suggest that Jesse lacked professionalism. Still Ralf and Thorsten are role models of the highest order, and I'll bet that Jesse bought into everything they stand for as professionals.

Seems like yesterday.................

I would battle against this young warrior, Jesse Engle, at the young age of 17.

Some thought that my prediction that he would beat Earl Strickland and then Mike Segal the next day were over the top.

Jesse came through and backed up my mouth 100%.

This young man takes care of himself and works hard to give himself the best chance to win.

I'm sure that Thorsen and Ralf could see this and made a great choice by having this young gun on their team.

Or was it Jesse that made the choice to have them on his team?;):rolleyes:

Great Job guys.

Actually, the problems the European Union suffers from today could be blamed on Germany's not accepting the responsibility of doing something about the looming deflation facing Europe as a whole. Germany is flourishing while Greece and other countries struggle. In fact, the European Union just might be on the verge of their own Great Depression any day now, while Germany stands by and watches.

Just like the pool world, Germany seems to come out on top, yet they don't put very much effort into contributions, as much as they could -- and should.

Cute name, "Minnesota Outlaws," consisting of two Germans.

Here is the back story on the "Minnesota Outlaws" .... they were originally named the Boston Young Guns and consisted of Mike Dechaine (capt) , Thorsten Hohmann and Jesse Engel. A week before the season was originally going to begin Dechaine pulled out and the captaincy was awarded to Thorsten who needed to fill the final spot on the roster, he immediately called Ralf and completed his team but the name no longer worked as the Boston Young Guns (because of Dechaines close proximity to Boston) The most obvious choice for a city was Jacksonville with both Hohmann and Engel making their homes there at the time but the WPBL was divided into 2 Divisions North and South and th he Boston team was placed into the North. To make a long story short Minnesota was chosen based on a number of factors 1. It is Jesse Engel's home state 2. Geographically it is in the Northern part of the country 3. Minnesota has one of the highest population of German residents of anywhere in America.
With the logo's already created a new name had to be chosen based on the age difference with Souquet as opposed to Dechaine and an internal poll was taken and eventually decided on Outlaws.

Fun fact: Coincidentally Thorsten Hohmann is now moving to Minneapolis and opening up a large pool room in the downtown core where the WPBL Trophy will reside until next season.

Hear ye Hear ye! Sorry SJM if I replied a little on the defense!

Has Thorsten even been to MN? Has Ralf?

Just curious.

I would love for Thorsten to open a hall in MN, but i'm not holding my breath...

Sounds legit. I bet it's just as much of a done deal as BB season two...

I remember seeing some posts from Randy Goldwater a few weeks back regarding some sort of secretish project in Minnesota. Seeing that he's best friends with Thorsten I'd wager the two things are related in some way.

Great story. They sure played like Outlaws. Minneapolis is a great city, one of my favorites in America, although I've been there just twice.

I went there on business in 1985 and since I was staying near the Metrodome (aka the Homerdome), I went to a Twins baseball game. Knuckleballer Charlie Hough, almost unfathomably, pithed the first 13 innings for the Texas Rangers! Sitting next to me and my business colleague was the fellow who I recognized only because I'd seen him throw out the first ball. His name was Pat Sajak, and he was the relatively new host of Wheel of Fortune. Who would have thought that he'd still have that gig almost 30 years later!

When I really got to see Minneapolis up close was when I went there for the NCAA Basketball Final Four in 1992. It was a non-stop three day party and the people of Minneapolis rolled out the red carpet for visitors like me. Add to this that the basketball offered the Michigan Fab 5 as freshmen in the final against the Duke Dynasty that had Christina Laettner, Bobby Hurley and Grant Hill, and it must be said that Minneapolis delivered in a big way.

Thorsten will surely fall in love with Minneapolis and they'll fall in low with him, too.
