Coring Lathe & Combo Pack Promotional Offer

let me suggest a .750 or bigger gun drill for testing? I think you would want to load the motor as much as possible to prove its viability. Heck I'll even bring drills if you are going to be in Vegas:).

I use .750 and .758

I have two gun drills. One at .650 and the other at .775 . I only live about an hour and a half from him. I would be willing to meet up and give that machine a test run. If I like it I might even place an order. It would be nice to have a coring lathe.

3/4 HP electrical motors hesitate when drilling aggressively.
15 HP breakers also trip when drilling aggressively.
Your points on the weights is eye opening.

I'd like to see a video of this machine core maple and rosewood.
If it does the job, it'd be a good machine to use.

My point being..it is pretty easy to set up a gun drill in the tool post instead of standing behind a tailstock and asking it to do something it was never intended to do.

The powerfeed gives a better finish,is much more predictable, and leaves both my hands and feet where I can use them to hit the foot break or whatever....

I am pretty sure guys use Deluxes to core with, but they have a third more power.

The 5/8 chuck would be ok for doing starter holes if you weren't boring them, but each gun drill will need its own holder.

Hi everyone
It's nice to see so many replies on this thread, everyone has stated very valid points. I will post a video coring curly maple, as soon as I get back from Vegas. I will do it with a 0.75" 15" long instead of the 1/2" 12" that I have used so far for testing.
Just a quick note, this coring lathe concept was designed and developed in August of last year. It's not something I just finished.
I will use curly maple for the video.

Best Regards.

Custom Cue Lathes

Have you ever made any cues with your lathes? I would like to see some of them.

Thanks

I wouldn't expect anyone to make and finish a cue with a coring lathe/machine.

He has stated that he will produce a video showing the lathe doing the job it was designed to do.

IMHO, that is all that is needed in this instance.

Not trying to stick up for Bassel or start a stink but you dont have be a cue builder to build cue lathes. I have seen some good cue builders that couldnt really shoot pool. Just sayin

No, but you have to know what cue building processes entails.

Do you think MR. Clausing ever made a pool cue?

Kim

No. But, Mr. Clausing did not build "cue making" lathes and market them to cue makers. Cue makers are the ones who found out Clausing lathes are good lathes and could be used to build a cue.

It really isn't necessary for Bassel to build cues, but if he is marketing his machines for that purpose they should be tested and proven prior to going to market. If Bassel did build cues using his machines, that would be one way (not the only way) to verify this. Perhaps that was why the question was asked.

No, but he has enough HP to core with a gun drill.

True.... more than enough.......

Just as an example:

My Hightower lathe has a 1/2 HP DC motor that has more than enough HP to core but the controller is a little too small and a little sensitive and trips out about every inch when I core curly maple.

I put on a 1/2 HP AC motor that I can just drop the belt over on the DC motor pulley and core the hell out of anything. This motor is not one of today's motors. This 40 lb green monster came off of a 1960 shopsmith.

So... 1/2 HP is enough even if it is DC. It will just depend on the controller and if it has enough balls to drive the motor with out burning up.

Many comment on this before I managed, but I did not ask the manufacturer of my 750kg lathe how many cues they had made, nor have I asked how many cars my mechanic have made using his custom tools when I hand my car for service.

I see your point though. As a dedicated machine it should be dedicated to certain things, but a tapper bare could be bought separate to my large lathe and coring could be done with the gun drill in either my carreage or tailstock. Nothing special with that for my large machine...

However, for those considering a dedicated machine to do coring to potentially save setup time, space or other things - the fundamental part for this special task is power.

If this machine has enough power, accuracy, wear resistance and a design which works- it should not matter if it's designed by a person which works with Lego,Bikes, hotrods, tool maker or have never ever replaced a tip on a cue... It would be a assurance if he was a cuemaker though-but if the machine performs coring without any issues-then it does what it's supposed to do and I guess the manufacturer has to prove this is the case by either do it him self or have some independant user do so.

Many of us makes dedicated machinary for certain things and it's not rocket science. Some do however lack some machining operations and source this out to external machine shops which knows sqat-diddly-do about cuebuilding. They are designed for certain things and some are adaptation of existing machines.
However-for me personally-time is a issue and if some have a setup which works-I'm interested..

Just my take on making wood dust and not ment to stir the pot any more.
Happy cue making

Stay away from Bassel, He will rip you off.

Creating an account just to bash someone is a jerk move. I'm not sure what happened between you two.... If you want to explain what happened and give him the chance to chime in and then let everyone make up their own mind.

But just coming on to talk crap is no good IMO

Explain!
2 posts and you are way down in credit makes me feel this is just to start a pi$$ing contests. Makes me eager to purchase a product from the manufacturer just to check! It's kind of pissing in your pants-warm in the beginning and then it sucks...

I have not owned any machinary from the custom manufacturer or any of the others (ChrisH, Unique or others) but these types of posts make no sence in my eyes...

Back your statement or leave it!

You called it right. The other post was deleted, obviously, but to chime in, and post the actual truth of what went down, I coppiced my reply in a picture, since it's no longer there

Oh atleast tell the truth. you are a liar and a cheat. Everyweek was a different answer to my question when will my lathe be finished, the first week was your waiting on your machinest, then it was your hot water tank went out, then your son went to the doctor, then your gargage door fell. It is always something with you all I wanted was an answer when. A set date that it would be done by. And you kept moving that date to another day then another day. It always changed never stayed the same and never was the truth. I have filed a claim with the fraud department because of what you did. Its real simple refund my money and I've learned a lesson to never deal with you again. I will create as many accounts as it takes to make sure people know not to deal with you until my money is back in my account.

And have you returned his Toolbox Lathe?
