Costco Brunswick or Original Used Brunswick?

Hi,

I am just processing the return of my Costco AH Classic table, because of a cloth issue which they dont seem to be keen on fixing.

I just am debating whether to go for a Costco Brunswick or should I buy an 20-25 years old brunswick ( hopefully original ) and re-felt it with Simonis 860 ?

I would appreciate if people can give feedback of their Costco table experiences v/s Old table with Felt upgrade ( + Cost of replacing the bumpers )

Thanks

Don't know why, but the first question I always have to ask is....what area do you live in? Same question comes up from someone living in Europe, Japan and where ever else in the world people live.

Costco Brunswicks are like Sears pool tables, built on a low budget for a reason;)

Now, let's see. A piece of crap from Costco or a gorgeous antique or older Brunswick?

It's really close, but I'd opt for the latter. I have an Anniversary, but there are many older Gold Crown Brunswicks available.

A wonderful Gold Crown will last you and your family forever. I'm sort of the belief, that within reason, you get exactly what you pay for. With some Simonis and new cushions, you'll have a real beauty!

Here's wishing you all the best of luck in you search. You'll be really, really happy you opted for a true commercial grade table. :wave2:

I agree with pursuing a ' real' table.

Find out who the best mechanic is in your area and start by calling him . He may even have a table for you, along with the skil to meet your expectations.

I offer this example merely to show you what might be a viable alternative for you; as opposed to dealing on Craigslist, etc.

A firm like this often has older tables; many of which they refurbish. With this scenario, they relocate, setup, and back up their workmanship.

Gold Crowns can be certainly be had for less. It's merely a question of being patient until you find something in your price range that is suitable.

I'd point out that most commercial tables are usually the 9 foot size. Make absolutely, positively certain that you have the room for this size table.

Here's a couple Gold Crowns that are sold as a package. Pricing varies widely depending on what you have in your area.

You just might wanna visit some local pool halls. Shoot on an older table and see how well it plays. You might also stumble upon a hall that might be looking to sell a table.

With the availability of Gold Crowns for $1000, I cant imagine buying something else.

i sure do like costco. they fill a lot of niches in my life but i just don't see a pool table from them in my future. not going to happen.

Costco does carry pool tables. I have seen them in their magazines that they send out and have seen them at the warehouse.

I didn't get to poke on them to find out if they were good or not. I remember there were cues on the table but no balls.

Nva is a great area for table deals.

I have been to many houses for kids bday parties an I swear thy more than half have pool tables .i keep my mouth shut about pool, don't think trying to stir up action is the best idea !

Digress...

With a population that moves often, you should be able to find a great deal on a better table than costcos offerings.

Afgain, contact the best mechanic in the area, john burns/ classic billiards to do the work. He may even have a Line on a table, honestly.

John posts here on the azb. He is scruffy1.

Be patient .a good table is like a piano: a one time purchase that should outlast a single homeowner.

I don't know about brunswick but I recently recovered an olhausen table bought at the big ugly warehouse. I can tell you it was not of the same quality as others that I've covered..not to mention missing parts lol He was complaining afterwards about the job I did because It didn't play as fast as expected. I reminded that he had cheap ass dead rails on his table before I covered it and cloth wasn't going to help that lol You get what you pay for. As cheap as tables are on craigslist that's where I would be looking.
