This is a great thread, thanks Kamui.
I made a Breaking News Article based on your first post and put it up on my website to help spread the word to others that don't always check AZB.
If we join together (spread the word) we can fight this
It will mushroom and play bad... Odds are you have a real Kamui, Who is your installer?
Where does the word "WE" fit into this John?
I see it as being solely Kamui's problem, not mine.
Whats in it for us, expensive Kamui chalk?
If I need Kamui tips, they are available cheaper than any of your dealers could possibly sell them or EBay for that matter. And they won't be counterfeit.
And before you feel the need to go off, yeah, I am still in a p issy mood over you lying to me re the wholesale price of Kamui tips from a dealer. Once a person misrepresents themselves to me, thats the last time I will trust their word on anything.
Call me crazy, but based on
"I just had one installed last weekend. Is there a way to identify them after the fact?"
How can you say odds are you have a real one, when the thread is about counterfeit ones.
Because he had it installed last week its a real one as opposed to the ones installed the week before, those were the really bad ones?
You know, you are right. I may have spoke wrong about this.. He did not say that it had any mechanical problems like mushroom so the odds are it would be a real one... right? He has been playing with it right?. He does know now that if it mushrooms then it was a bad one... But if it hasn't yet.. Odds are he is o.k.
Also, we have just a couple reports of the counterfeit here in the US... We have plenty of intel in China to stop the problem before it ruins the Kamui brand... We are proactive to protect the player.
So, again, Odds are he has a real one and he will be fine.
Thank you for your post and allowing me to clarify this for you.![]()
Glue goes on the back not the hologram side.
I think these are some very important words to note. What is being said is "you probably (we hope) have a real kamui tip." The fact is at $25 a pop a consumer should not have to feel this way. The one thing i'm almost literally laughing at is that the "tell" is the fakes mushroom.... maybe that's true right now, maybe not. But I assure you these people can make tips that don't mushroom. A 15 cent triangle doesn't mushroom. The price point has simply been set too high, and I think here come some of the consequences.
Then please by all means do not be involved to provide the best for your customer... I do not see it necessary to pound on my thread about your disgruntles. Since you have a "formed" opinion about me as being the bad guy... Let me help you. Pick up the phone!. Why do you hide in this forum and bash me and my thread?
Our problem since you want it to be public..
1. You live in Canada right?
2. I do not sell to tip fitters or cue makers in Canada and I have contract agreements with all of my distributors to not sell across the boarder..
Why? you ask? well, I made a promise to my Canadian distributors to help grow their market and their request was to keep the USA distributors off their turf.
3. SO, when you contacted me I referred you to Joel from AVO Billiards. Ethical thing to do right?
4... that was when all the problems started.
I am bound under contract agreement with my Canadian dealers. As for price, you can find a cheaper price to anything you buy anywhere. Is it Authentic? Is your source using the money in their pocket to sponsor players and do what they can to grow billiards? I think not.
In my previous post on MY thread I talked about the price of the dollar to the yen... From 2009 - now there has only been one price increase. Why you ask? Well, I have worked very hard to keep the pricing from fluctuating... Pretty soon I will not be able to prevent a price increase. Blame it on the US gov't and our economy.
You are 100% correct... For what you know. A Kamui tip is NOT a single layered tip.
I challenge you Chinchilla. Make your own tip, Then make the second one perform like the last.(Consistency)... But, Try doing this 12 months out of the year, I mean try to keep it consistent from every batch every month..
There is a lot to learn about leather. Take the time to learn about all leathers and then about pig. And then try to stabilize it. Not a simple task. Took us 6 years to figure that equation out..
I AM NOT FORCING ANYONE TO BUY MY PRODUCT... We just love billiards and we see an inconsistency in a product we will challenge ourselves to make it better. Like our tips and like our chalk.
Thank you for your post and voicing your opinion.

Are you serious??????? Making ignorant remarks like that, you really should consider a career in politics.Pretty soon I will not be able to prevent a price increase. Blame it on the US gov't and our economy.
You honestly believe that the US government has the power to affect the price of tips?
I suggest reading the Weath of Nations and Henry Hazlitt (both free) to gain a slightly better understanding of economics. Pricing bows to many factors of which government actions are just one part. If government had the power to depress prices then the entire world would be locked in a perpetual price war as each government would undertake the measures to keep prices low since low prices would make those in power loved and prolong their power.
If you want to keep the price of tips lower then reduce the amount of profit you have on them. No law prevents you from taking a smaller slice. Companies face these decisions all the time as to whether it's better to raise prices when costs rise or leave them alone so as to not disrupt their market. Currencies fluctuate all the time and companies who are smart account for this in their pricing schemes. Companies who don't get caught having to adjust radically. Blaming it on the government as to why you are entitled to x-amount of profit per cue tip is generally not a good strategy.

Are the Browns being counterfeited too? They're about the same price. Is there going to be a hologram on them too? Why can't the hologram also be counterfeited?
So what should a person do if they have Kamui tips from six, five or four years ago while you were in the process of figuring out how to make tips? Will you exchange those presumably inconsistent tips with the new consistent ones?
