Country with the best pool players?

Have to say UK UK UK
We done every major way
Peach came first to snap off the 9 Ball
Appleton next took down the 10 Ball
That only left 8 Ball to win
Boyes was the Man to rein it in.
While in the wings we still have there
Majid and Grey a solid pair
These five make up the World Team Champs
Outshone the Filipino camps.
We still claim Raj and Tony Drago
And Osborne, Higgins and So still to go

Baby, You're The Best

The correct answer is...........Cool Hand Luke....oh wait.....I meant to say China or Taiwan. I would say Philippines 5 years ago.

The Philippines.

Efren won the DCC All-Around and he just won some other tournament in Spain.

Orcollo won the Predator World 10-Ball and the World Pool Masters.

Bustamante won the 9-ball WPC.

The Vatican.
Oh, players not prayers.
In which CITY can a US Open winner go and get a spot?

more important question

The more important question would be what country produces the best female pool players?

The Philippines, of course. As JB mentioned and Jay has written about, it's quite a proving grounds for pool players. And it's one of the few way someone can pull themselves out of poverty there. For the Filipinos it's like making the NBA, to reach pro player status.

Taiwan -Taipei for sure....it seems like every second person there plays like wu chia ching....... most of them unknowns.they wont travel to the U.S because of the language barrier.they also have a good structure in place with regards to junior players and pool as one of there classes at school !!

I would think most people who has played there would agree??

I heard a funny story from a guy who stakes Stevie Moore, they were over in the Philippines and decided to go to a local pool hall. As they were walking into the pool hall they saw a guy living in a box outside with no shoes.

When they got into the pool hall they asked if anyone wanted to play some and they were told to ask the guy in the box. Well I guess the guy came into the pool hall from his box and ran over Stevie every set and then offered him weight.

So I would guess if there is someone living in a box in the Philippines that plays better than one of our top ten ranked players in the U.S. that they probably have the best players!

Actually, the younger generation (under 40) are all somewhat fluent in English; it's taught (mandatory) in the schools, in Taipei. I'[m sure it's taught in the other big cities too, but may not be taught in the little towns.

Pool is an elective in the schools, much like how our kids can choose to play basketball or football.

Lol that's funny. Thanks.

I think pool in Taiwan's curriculum is a little overly exaggerated. There's only a couple high schools that has a serious pool program, otherwise they would have an elective class with a bunch of students playing on a few tables (nothing really being taught). Best pool country in the world would definitely go to Taiwan, Philippines, or USA. I think the Filipinos have done a great job gaining publicity in the USA (thanks to Efren and Busti of course). However, There are a bunch of players in the league in Taiwan that can beat Wu-Chia-Ching, Kuo-Po-Cheng, Yang-Chin-Shun any day.

Taiwan definitely has the most top-level female pool players these days, if you've seen the Amway cup, you would know what I'm talking about. Not one particular has been standing out though, due to the failure to participate in major events in the USA. Feels like USA's female pool scene has go on a decline. However, female pool is very interesting, you have top players from many different countries..

I'm gonna have to say Taiwan as well. The Phillipines are close, but the younger Filipinos haven't really had as much impact in the last few years compared to the younger Taiwanese.

That's some funny story. Met Steve in Oneside. Nice guy with that heavy southern accent. He was really so surprise with the talent pool that is present in the Philippines. I think he said he wants to stay there for a long time to train. I really hope he does it.
