Craziest Question Ever Asked on AZ

I've always been under the impression that sex was good for your aim. At least that's what I read in an old James Bond book. um Goldfinger.

Getting rid of that sexual tension in theory should help you to maintain your focus.... especially if there's some hot women at the tournament.

I watched a t.v show on the "Brown Bomber" and it was amazing. Well there was one part where a girlfriend talked about him engaging in sex before a fight, which in boxing is a big no no. Well if it is applicable to boxing can it be applicable to billiards. I am sure that it has something to do with stamina and testostrone, but lets say you have a big pool tournament coming up or a big money match. I wonder if not having sex for days before that will have any effect on pool playing..

told ya it was a weird question.

Who cares? Pool is something you think about after sex. A better question might be: Does playing pool adversely affect your sex life?

Well, I had a guy I was playing get a call mid-match. He looks at me and tells me he has to go, his girlfriend wants some. So I guess his sex caused my game to get better as I did not lose a single game after that.

Aha, good point. How many young guys would be getting a lot more if they weren't always in the pool room when they should be out chasing. :)

Well, MEDICALLY speaking, the idea of abstaining before any athletic event is pretty dubious. In the case of a boxing match, which demands extreme energy output that is pretty close to the limit of human capacity, it's arguable that the energy saved by abstaining in the hours before the match could make a difference. In pool, the energy expended for even a long match is well within human limits and would make very little difference.

Now, sexual activity DOES increase testosterone levels, which will make you more competitive and more aggressive which could more than offset the near-negligible energy drain from getting it on the night before. For this reason, many modern trainers and coaches actually encourage sexual activity leading up to competition.

In just about any sport, I'll guarantee that if you believe it helps, it will help, and if you believe it's detrimental, then it will be detrimental.

I think some scientific studies need to be done.

This thread reminds me of the Seinfeld "Hot & Heavy" episode...and the "Even Steven" episode.

Haha... That brings up a funny and interesting story that has some relevance to a big tournament going on now. Back in early 2006 I was still in the Air Force and stationed in Mountain Home, Idaho which is pretty much in the middle of no where. It's about 45 minutes from Boise which I went to often to play in tournaments. A lot of guys there told me about this tournament in Reno called the US Bar Table Championship where all the best bar table players from all over went too.

Well I just had to go. I had a girlfriend at the time who was living with me and we both decided we'd go. Just so happened that a big Chemical Warfare Exercise landed on the same week that the tournament started. I wouldn't be able to attend the 9-ball portion of the tournament but I decided I'd still try to make the 8-ball tournament. During the exercise I worked 12-15 hour shifts for the 4 days leading up to the exercise and on the final day I got home at 9pm and me and my girlfriend left as soon as I took shower.

So the next morning was when the tournament started, so of course I had to sleep for the majority of the drive to Reno. :) The weather was absolutely horrible and there were blizzard conditions the majority of the way. But thank the lord... we finally made it in the morning with time to spare.

I end up winning my first two matches pretty easily. And I am looking at my bracket and realize that if I win my next match I would be playing Jose Parica! I was very excited about the thought of playing against a world class player as Jose. My next match was not easy at all. I got down 4-2 going to 5 in an alternate break format. And I end up coming but and playing great to win the match. So I am estatic about the come back win and the chance to play against Jose.

You might be starting to wonder why I am telling this long drawn out story but I am finally getting to the topic at hand. I end up having some time before my next match, so my girlfriend and I go up to the room to relax a little before my match. My girlfriend was very happy that I won and happy at the fact that I was happy. So of course she ended up doing what any good woman would do in that situation and needless to say I was having a great day.

I end up losing 5-3 to Jose in a very close match. And I then play Joonas Ohtonen and played absolutely horrible and lost 5-1. So in my case it didn't turn out very well. I lost my focus in some very key situations and dogged it. I can't say for sure if it was just because I choked, or because she choked hours earlier.  :D

Always, always , rmember the words of Rocky Balboa, "women weaken legs"!!!

Sports Science (FSN) proved that theory about boxing to be completely false. In fact the test subject performed better after sex due to a higher testosterone level.

If I remember correctly it was Lennox Lewis

WOW, that is quite a question. It just so happens that I know the answer. I have been married for 16yrs now and I play alot of pool and NOT having sex does not make a difference in your play.... but hold on a minute I can't remember how I played if I did. Sorry I thought I had the answer.

Ah well, here we go again, only spitting water on the keyboard this time...:D :D ... very funny.............

Sorry to Nitpick...

That was Rocky's trainer, Mickey (played by the great Burgess Meredith), who said that. At least, it was in the first movie. I suppose it's possible Rocky may have uttered it in one of the sequels.

With his right hand tied to his waste, he muttered it three times while punching the heavy bag. Either way, I still get a kick out of that stuff.

I think it could take away alittle of that killer instinct,i mean i play better when im pissed at my women, lol. :D

Thanks for the posts guys..several of them had me in stitches .. I do wonder though.. i might just give it a try..we have a weekly tournament here and i have a big Moose Tournament coming up. I will not engage in any sexual activity....ahh hell who am i kidding..I am not scientificly suited to take on such a task..perhaps someone more suited will take one for the team and see.

I shoot out of Boston Billiards in Boston and any of you who have been through there can attest to: having sex or not, the eye candy there (between the waitresses and the college students) is just a little distracting.

When I worked over by Copley Square I used to run on the Esplanade by the Charles. Fall and Spring as I got up near BU, the distractions rose to the level of being a danger... lucky I never ran off the bank into the Charles. :)

I like your question... i was wondering the same myself but didn't know how to ask it! Glad you knew how and i appreciate it :) Now reading the posts and answers :)

Honest opinion

After reading these, I must be the only one that is adversely affected. It ALWAYS effects my stance, legs get a little shakey, stroke is not as steady and I'm mentally drained. Maybe you guys are just doin it wrong. LOL.

SGM,
While your grammar and spelling are adequate; your Ian Fleming recall is suspect.

You are thinking of "The Man with the Golden Gun" in which the villain Scaramanga indulges himself in some recreation with the opposite sex just before every hit.
