CSI PRESENTS: US P[en One Pocket & US Open Straight Pool Championship

What are the arrangements for spectators at Pool Table Magic? open seating?,reserved,SRO??? Cost of tickets? pr-order tix or door only? Mitch

What is the dress code? Most pro events it's slacks and collared shirt. Only the world 14.1 championship requires a long sleeve dress shirt and a vest. I would like to see this one just require a collared shirt as I find the long sleeve button up shirts somewhat restrictive and also because 14.1 is generally played all ball fouls. I'd hate to foul and lose for wearing a long sleeve shirt.

bull-shee-toe.

If you pay $350/600 to enter an event, and I pay $350/600 to enter the same event, my money should be as good as your money.

I agree. Screw the pros. Money is money. Everything should be the same for all paying participants.

Will there be a US Open 8 ball and 10 ball in Vegas this summer? If so, will it be on 7 or 9 footers?

What is the cost to attend as a spectator? How is the seating? The viewing at Steinway is great. Went to another tournament in Brooklyn last summer. Horrible seating and viewing arrangements.

I'll be at the US Open 14.1. I somehow managed to win a qualifier.

How is the viewing?.. normally it is very good. The bar and upper seating area is raised and you can see all the tables. Mark is looking to get temporary gym seating and move a table from the main room to an expansive secondary room.

Its still under review....

Is the list of players for the one pocket event current? Only shows 14 players entered and the event starts next week.

Us open

Yes, the player lists on our website are current.

Not real sure why so few sign ups. The events will be held as planned.

I would be interested in some thoughts why the entries are low. The East Coast is supposed to be where the straight pool players are - and the one pocket players showed a lot of desire for the event.....

The venue is 5 min from airport. The hotels are way more reasonable (under $100) and they have breakfast. There's a lot of restaurant within walking range.

Plus - counting SBE events, players have 4 events in 10 days which saves a lot in travel costs. Venue is 240 miles from SBE.

The venue is not 5 mins from the airport it is much less. I think I could walk from the airport to PTM in 5 minutes. Basically PTM is at the airport. There are plenty of hotels and restaurants and one of the best BBQ places if not the best in CT is walking distance from the event.
I really hope people are just doing the normal last minute entry thing which seems to happen at alot of events.
Things you can be sure of at PTM it always clean and there is plenty of whatever your beverage of choice is. Tables will play good and balls will be clean. Mark always keeps his room in good shape.
I will be there Monday for the start after I drive home from the Expo. Unfortunately I have to leave and pick someone up at the airport and probably won't make it back that night but atleast I should get to see the start of the 1p. Hopefully I will be able to make it back a few times over the week to watch the play.
Anyone coming in for this event needs any information on the area feel free to PM me.

Hi Mark, just thinking out loud... I'd have to say that for many players it's a tough environment nowadays to go to some events. Speaking to the 1pocket, it's a completely week day event, so for many that's time out of work, which also plays into the issue of multiple events -- good for the pros and roadies, not so much for everyone else. Bradley is not exactly JFK (or even Laguardia), so right off guys from across the country have to fly with a connection, that's $600- $900. Entry fee. Hotel, food, drinks, t-shirt, and for some a rental car, and it's easy to approach $2K. Yes, I know it can be done cheaper but some of us have standards :-)

I also think the relatively short lead time this year was an issue. That affected how much PR and chatter you got. I suspect that at the pool room I play at, few if any, were aware of the event until I mentioned it. I also don't believe that the 1pocket group did much to talk it up, after making noise about whether you'd have the tournament. Perhaps Steve will be all over me on that one but its my opinion and honest observation. I also believe that if you're not holding it in Vegas, the New England is not the bestest area for a 1pocket event. I mean, the last time I was in New England and tried to get a 1pocket game, the guy I matched up with called it "pocket-a-piece.") The Midwest, or even SoCal, would garner you a couple dozen local and regional entries.

I have often said that many major events are borne on the backs of the "ham and egg" players who are willing to donate if the cost is moderate, so I think a strong base of local 1pocket talent, wherever you hold the event, would help. Soooo, those are some thoughts.

Tony Chohan was doing some commentary yesterday afternoon at the Don Coates Memorial event. He was asked why he wasn't going to play in the US Open One-Pocket event. He seemed to indicate that it was purely a financial decision -- that his expenses would be high versus no guarantee of what the added money or prizes will be. He felt that if the event guaranteed the added money and first-place prize, rather than having them "based on full field," that the field would fill. [He didn't mention the promoter's risk in that situation.]
