I just read on the AZ home page about CueSports International (CSI) and innovative Legends and Champions producer Mark Cantrill are pleased and proud to announce Team CSI – American Grand Masters. Why do they keep adding Earl Strickland to these teams? Even the Mosconi cups. He's not the champion he use to be by a long shot. John Schmidt posted a thread here not too long ago bashing Earl and saying what a piece of shit he is,and yet they're teamed up. I'm sure the money has a lot to do with it but why not get Archer, Reyes, SVB, Pagulayan, anyone but Earl? That's my 2 pennys.

Archer is available also, as he had been travelling with Strickland and if I'm not mistaken, later it became ... Nick Varner? Anyway, someone other than Strickland.

A lot of people already went to the Archer and Strickland events, and some people also posted about their individual experiences learning from Earl directly. You might want to search those threads to decide if you feel he is a worthy instructor.

I'm not sure if Reyes, SVB or Pagulayan are good instructors. Not saying they aren't, just have no idea nor do I recall seeing anyone post about lessons with those greats.

I don't understand the cheap shot here. CSI probably knows that Earl is popular world wide even though he is not a current world champion.

Everyones got one...

BTW, I'm sure Mr Schmidt would not approve of your paraphrasing him. He posted this on 9/23:

"im thrilled to say earl and i have buried the hatchet and i hope him and i are on team. we will be doing exibitions together and i think earl is ready to have things come together for him. im sure earl will make mc as always,i just hope im there too ."

KK9 <-- biting tongue

There are a lot of pool players that still want to see Earl.

Maybe CSI has a 5 year plan that would include a new team each year to present to the players that are CSI Team USA players. I think this would be a great presentation package and a pretty good enticement to join the USA Pool league that CSI is sponsoring.

Earl is still a pretty good package. World Champion Player and one of the better Pro instructors.

Archer and Strickland presented a great 3 hours of training when they came through California last year.

Thanks for starting this thread, your opinion has opened the door for some positive CSI team opinions. Good Job.

Brian71,

Thanks for your questions and concersns. So here goes:smile:

Team CSI - American Grand Master is - providing opportunities for well deserved "AMERICAN" Professional players. Thus, all the famous foreign stars don't qualify.

Team CSI is not for everyone. It comes with some obligations and responsibilities. At anytime these players can pop up for a social appearances, conduct pool school or exhibition near you and so forth.

There are many talented professionals out there who are well qualified. However, some players just want to play tournaments/action matches and not really want to mingle with the fans. And then there are players who are so bounded by their sponsors that could not reach agreeable terms.

Team CSI -Earl Strickland, Corey Deuel, John Schmidt and Charlie Bryant was carefully selected by Mark Griffin (CEO of CSI) and Mark Cantrell (Producer of Legends and Champions) based upon their achievement in their professional career and their individual drive to market themselves.

I believe all the members of Team CSI is a great asset to US Professional Pool and changing the image all together. They are all unique in their own talents, personality with no lack of likability. How can anyone disagree that they are undoubtedly one of America's most popular professional players today?

I am confident that Mark Cantrill is a great manager for the Team and looking forward to a great start:smile:

Tom...This might just be semantics...but Earl is a World Champion pro player, who teaches some. He is not, however, a "professional instructor". This is a great group of American pro players, who will serve a good purpose, in furthering the positive image of pocket billiard sports in America!

Scott,

I don't think Tom meant that Earl was a Certified Instructor, such as yourself, but a Professional Player who teaches. Sometimes wordings can get so tricky:wink:

hi

i think earl would be great at playing lessons from the pros like they do in golf.

sometimes decision making and shot selections, pattern play when and how to play safe is important and earl is as qualified if not more than anyone for that kind of teaching.

if you had a chance to get a golf lesson from say vijay singh or your local club pro who teaches 30 students a week but shoots 78 .who would you go with.
they both have their stongsuits but im going with vijay.
only thing is in golf a lesson from vijay would cost 10,000.
you can get a lesson from earl for less than some pro pool instuctors. wow sounds like a no brainer.
earl does great lessons and is a world class instuctor.it will be fun working with earl i know im going to learn some things myself.

John...I agree with you here! I was one of the first people to recommend going to Earl for lessons, when Mike G. posted here that Earl would be giving lessons at his house (I also posted that giving lessons to others, would improve Earl's playing...which it did. Within a couple of months, Earl won the Carolina Open). IMO, once someone has a repeatable stroke, playing lessons from someone like Earl (or yourself, Corey or Hillbilly) are a terrific investment in one's game. Without the stroke, though, the knowledge becomes less valuable...as the student is sometimes unable to articulate the shot strategy. Best of luck with the new CSI tour! You guys are sure to bring in the crowds!

Here is my feeling on this. Although Earl has not taken any course on instruction and may not teach the same way as a BCA instructor what you are getting in a look inside the playing mind of a multi time World Champion with years of knowledge and experience. That alone is worth spending the $$ and taking the time. I also want to remember Schmidt, Bryant and Deuel. They all have alot of experience and can maybe see patterns in a different way or how to know when to play safe and when to go for it etc.
The other thing with the lessons/pool schools with the American Grand Masters. You may be in a school that has all 4 Masters teaching, now this is not to confuse because they all have a different styleand way of doing things when they play. What you get is to take what each of them tell you (May be the same thing just a different technic) Take what each tell you and see what works best for you. Give each one a chance, You may not feel comfortable with the way Earl tells you to bridge, then don't doit maybe Johns bridge felt better for you. Thats what I think of that. OH also I want to add one more thing. While in Galvaston Earlwas working with SVB as Shane had asked advice from Earl on a certain type of shot that comes up alot. They spend 45 mins working on it together. So to me the fact that SVB has enough faith in Earl's advice tells me alot.

We are all looking forward to getting out on the road and holding the exhibitions and schools I hope you support what we are doing and come to the exhibitions and classes. I will be getting a tour going as soon as possible but right now the tournament schedule has the guys locked down for a while.

Wow, SVB picking Earl's brain for advice on a shot - that is a big deal! Well, I am sold. I hope the classed come to Vegas and SOON:grin-square:

I took lessons from Earl. And YES, he is a worthy instructor!!!

Is the question why the didn't put Reyes and Pagulayan on a team named American Grand Masters?

A) Earl has more world and U S Open titles than both of those guys together.

B) Earl is American.

Can we get some harder questions here Alex? What do I win?

My wife and I spent a weekend late last yr. at the school/exibition 200 miles away and well worth the trip. It was a blast. Mark is a great guy, Johnny and Earl were both informative and entertaining, and spent alot of time answering questions, signing autographs, getting their pics taken with anybody that asked after each session. Glad we went.

Okay, now I'm curious... Do you recall the shot?
I do remember the shot, However I was not there to spy :) I can't say what the shot was because that may give an advantage toanother player if they knew an area he was not comfortable with or something ya know?

I just happened to be there when Earl and Shane were discussing the shot. The cue ball was frozen to the end cushion with the object ball about 1 diamond past the side pocket, lined up dead staight to the corner. Earl was showing Shane a different bridge to use for that shot. They were shooting the shot fairly hard. They worked together for about 45 minutes. After Earl left Shane practiced that shot for another hour by himself. Talk about dedicated!

Thats right Bill, I forgot you were there too. I was sofocused onthe shot and howthey were going about the best way I really didn't see anything but the table. That was the shot but the part that was making the shot hard was he was trying to make the ball in the top corner and then send the cue ball to the top rail and all the way back down for shape on a ball that was on the bottom rail where the cueball originally started. Power stroke shot. Earl is a master at them.

Yes, I forgot that they were also trying to get the cue ball back to the end rail for position.

There are two points to my post

1. Shane is very dedicated to improving his game (scary thought!)

2. Earl is an excellent instructor with vast knowledge and is as passionate about his instructing as he is to winning. CSI is proud to have Earl on Team CSI.
