Cue butt deflection...

Bob Meucci says it, Predator builds C4 in their butts(funny sentence), Dominator builds their butts also with several pieces of wood.

How, does the construction of the butt of the cue affect deflection and squirt?

Then shouldn't the joint type also affect it? SS, ivory, phenolic etc...

I have a Mcdermott with ss QR big metal lump joint, with a i2 shaft, I think it squirt/deflect a lot. My BCM cue, with a one piece shaft actually squirt/deflect less... I want to understand how other things than shaft and tip affects squirt/deflection.

I thought it mainly was keeping shaft ending and tip light in weight. Making the tip grip the ball, and making the shaft get out of the way.

I've metioned this several times & it went no where. I think that is because very little is known about it & it is a bit harder to test for the average guy & also how consistent can a butt be built regarding 'squirt'?

It could be just good marketing. Cue making companies may even show an decrease in squirt but even with that there may not be a practical difference between the multiple butt designs on squirt. In other words, to the player there may not be a noticeable difference in performance. Of course, if the player believes it makes a difference then it does. Yet others will be beaten by someone with a house cue pulled from the wall.

Sometimes I want to trademark the phrase "Made with old school technology." Heck it would at least make a good t-shirt!

I have a Meucci PP1 thats supposed to have something special in the butt.
Hope it isn't PP or anything disgusting.
Well, less disgusting than PP2 anyway.

For all intents and purposes, the tip, ferrule, and first 6-9 inches of the cue completely determine deflection of the CB. The CB has left the tip way before the time the impact wave arrives at the joint, let alone interact with the workmanship of the butt.

If you watch Bob's deflection testing, an Adam cue did very well, and Bob commented on the butt. The butt of a cue can flex a LOT more than most people think. Take your cue butt and place it on a flat surface with something under each end like a pencil. Now take a finger and press a little in the middle and watch how easy it is to flex. The first time I did this I was a bit shocked.

What would be interesting is to see very high speed video shot of the entire cue from various angles during a shot...

All I know is.....If you spend all your money on Marketing, You have to have Chineese labor to build your newest and brightest gimicks.

Assuming your cue has an ajoint this is correct. Not all cues have an ajoint.

Did someone just activate the slow motion Bat-Signal? :)

I'll see if I can get something on video, but it will be a couple of weeks before I can try.

shaft is only half the battle.the balance of but has alot to do with it if your are using a lite weight ld shaft.if you cant get the stick thru the cue ball the same everytime it is hard to say bad stroke or deflection .alot of people mistake bad balance for deflection. they both play thereroles doug

I really would recommend one NOT do that to a cue, especially if it has an A joint.
