I mostly use the old Predator vinyl case that was made by Instroke.
I like:

  • It is lighter than a leather Instroke

  • It has a central strap

  • It has the Instroke interior and protection.

I would change:

  • make the pockets a bit longer, especially the long one

  • Add another internal sleeve to accommodate for a 3 piece jump cue.

I would love to put my hands on one of the 3x5 pilot cases they did.... but only in new condition.

-It doesn't make me any better of a player.
-It doesn't have a hot drink dispenser.
-I had to hire a caddy aftermarket.
-When I load it up with everything and the kitchen sink, it weighs a ton.

On a serious note, my case (Porper VIP) needs a hard bottom. The vinyl gets scratches from being stood on end all the time.

good subject.
i was using an instroke for a couple years and then replaced it with a slightly higher end case. it just doesnt want to stay on my shoulder, the strap pad is either too slick, too large, or too stiff, or all of the above.

What's wrong with my cue case???

It's loaded up with cues that can't make balls :sorry:!!!!

I have an Instroke.

I wish the strap was on the other side of the case so the pouches don't rub up against me when I walk. They could fix this by putting rings on the other side of the case.

I wish the strap had more padding and was wider so it wouldn't slip off of my shoulder.

The pockets could be a little bigger.

Interesting comments about the straps. I have a beautiful Whitten 2x4 .... that just won't stay on my shoulder. Can't imagine why. Maybe it's not MY shoulder (based on comments, above).

For me, I have an On Q, it is a bit heavy but I keep it at the poolroom so I am lucky to not have to lug it around. The pockets are tough to reach in and get stuff out of but I just keep stuff in a ziplock bag and pull it out. I love the look of it and have had it for over a year and it still looks like new. I have a John Barton on the way.

I have the Leather version of the same case and I agree with everything
except instead of another sleeve on the inside, I'd like another external
sleeve on the side to hold my Hager extension. I also have a John Barton
Flowers tribute and love everything except that the zippers on the side of
the pockets makes it a bit hard to take stuff out, and put stuff in. Other
than that, to me its perfect. Oh, does anyone have any pics of the 3 x 5
pilot cases that they did? I'd love to see some pics of that case.

nothing is wrong with my Whitten- Joe built it like I wanted. 2x2 handle, no pouches.

I have a 3-5 Instroke & it's great. I had 3 of them, wouldn't buy anything else. If I get rich, I'll ask JB to personalize one....

IF I had my druthers, the case would have ONE (1) Long Pocket on the side. I use a small soap dish, to contain the small accessories. The long pocket, with a long jump pocket handle (easy to make for a long handle or short handle), would allow me to carry my AIR JUMP Handle & free up another slot, so I can carry a Sale Cue.

I would like the bottom bumpers to be larger & maybe studier, allowing the case to stand vertically easier.

funny you should ask

I just got a 3 piece lomax jump cue. I use a instroke 2x4
So I am going to have to switch back to my soft case to carry
all my stuff.I also need room for a justa bridge and a cue extension
If I had room for a my 2 cues,the jump cue,justa bridge,and extension
and a few other small gadgets like an ipod that would be nice .Think
the soft case may be the only answer for me now.

My newe Whitten 2x4 won't stay on my shoulder very well either!!!!!

Other than that and the price, I love it!!

Case

I like my Action 3 x 5 soft/hard case pretty well, but:

1) Would like the small pocket to be 1" taller (7" in lieu of 6" tall). Most pens are 6-7" long.
2) Would like the small pocket to have 2 separate sections.
3) Would like the handle to be on the right side of the case instead of the left (so it would face outwards when I carry it with my left hand).
4) This is just extra, but would like a little pocket for 3 pieces of chalk.

Ohhhh this is a good thread. I own a great case but there are things I would change. John, you listening?

GTF 2X4

Design:

I would love to see GTF go to wood caps on the case instead of that plastic. I understand the plastic is probably more shock resistant but I would sacrifice the strong plastic for a nice wood on the bottom and lid caps. On the bottom wood cap the holes for the metal bits that touch the floor would need to be screwed or just glued into pre-drilled holes. AKA my blue suede GTF would look alot better with Macassar Ebony top and bottom caps. Imagine some of the burl that could be used with other types of leather, the combinations would make some amazing looking GTFs. IMO I like this thought alot better then the folded leather of the Fellini GTFs.

I would like to see the small white GTF logo move out of the butt sleeve. It is the one section of the butt sleeve that is not nice soft black fabric and it is on my mind every time I slip a cue into that slot. The stiching and more abrasive white fabric will probably never hurt the cue, but it would be better if it is not there to begin with. What would be very nice is if they went with wood caps and then inlaid a metal GTF logo into the top of the wood cap.

Pocket Capacity, Length, Width, DESIGN, Zipper Configuration etc.

A thick/padded shoulder strap would be nice. I notice some of the nicer GTFs with carving have 2 shoulder straps. Mine has a relatively thin leather shoulder strap with no padding and it gets pretty uncomfortable having it dig into your shoulder when it is fully loaded. I tried using it in Vegas when I got the case for about a day and carried the case by the handle ever since.

Capacity:

2X4 is perfect, I can transport my shooter with 2 shafts, my breaker with 1 shaft, and a jump shaft.

The jump cue must get stuffed into the long pocket though where I keep other stuff. It is a pain in the neck because I have stuff that can hurt the butt of the jump cue so I have to wrap the jump cue butt in felt before placing it in the pocket.. I would like to see a outer pocket with the same black interior material as the main section of the case that exclusively holds a jump butt the length of a predator jumper.

Weight Empty:

The weight is perfect really, you cannot go lighter and keep the level of protection. I am OK with it being a pound heavier even which the wood caps would do.

Other CHANGES would you like to make to make your Favorite ALMOST PERFECT?

The blue suede is ok but John has some of the nicest leather carving I have ever seen and could do an amazing tropical theme carved into my case with palm trees, a beach, the ocean, maybe a parrot.

At that point the case would be pretty much perfect, it is already amazing and by far the best case I have ever had.

I know its a generalisation but the biggest gripe that I have with any case is the cheap fixtures and fittings. Lovely hand crafter leather finished off with a tiny POS zip that jams every 2 seconds. I'd happily pay an extra few £'s for a quality zip or buckle.

I agree with most of what you've said. I have several types of cases in this similar type. Wood end caps would be a nice option, though I kind of do like glass fiber injected composite material just because its a lot stronger.

I also second the movement of the tag. Because of the snug fit, insertion and removal of the butt section rubs up against the tag. Would be nice to have the GTF tag moved somewhere less obtrusive.

Having a separate storage compartment for the jump butt handle would be really nice. Even better if it were padded with the same soft interior and foam lining.
