Cue & Cushion Billiard Room St. Louis in the 1940s-50s

I added some more photos of this room including a nice shot of the bar.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying the photos!

It does look like the old Brunswicks have been replaced with other tables. The pictures from the original post date from the 1950's but in reading the info on the web site above, it appears to have been under new management since 1966.

Can someone confirm if this Cue and Cushion pool hall is the same as the one from the original posting?

I think 1966 is when Bob started it up in it's current incarnation. IIRC, the building it's in now was a grocery store.

Cue & Cushion Billiards is located in Overland, Mo on Woodson Road. The business was opened up in the late 1960's by Bob Huddleston, and is currently run by his son's. I use to go there starting in 1971 until around 1978 when I left Mo.

While the room in the photo may have been called Cue & Cushion it is not the room that I have listed above which is till in operation. The largest and fanciest room that was ever in St. Louis was called Grand and Olive Billiards and it was located on the corner of Grand BLVD and Olive BLVD hence the name.

When you walk into the currently operating Cue & Cushion there is a turn style which came form Grand and Olive Billiards when it closed in the late 1960's.

While the photo of the room is fantastic I don't think it was called Cue & Cushion, but I could be wrong, it certainly would not be the first time that has happened.

Hope this information helps

Grand & Olive was long gone by the time I moved to St Louis in the early 90's. But here's a photo anyways:

Did they have recessed lighting in the 50's? The room is beautiful but looks entirely too modern for the 1950's era, imo of course.

I agree.

I also think that if this room was truly from that era, the chalk would have had blue paper vs red.

Any idea what that illuminated square thing is on the wall in the second photo at about 1 o-clock to the right of the reception desk, cig machine ?

awesome looking room and love the tables, thanks for posting, I dig old photos :)

slipped ya some green!

Dont know if anyone ever answered you. No there are no drinks for sale. I just went in, and played there again the other day. It is still a great place to go very nice people, the cloth was brand new. I was very lucky, and was one of the first guys to get to hit some on it. They added a three cushion table moved some things around but it seemed like the place I played at 15-16 years ago.

I want to be transported back in time and play there! I love the cushion seats next to the tables. Centennials, best table all time IMO.

SuperCaptainObviousMan sez:

Just looked at it again.. its a beautiful room, I don't think I've seen anything like this in America. Looks more like a room in Asia. Is this strictly a pool hall without a bar?

in the pictures . . . the long thin thing . . . surrounded by barstools . . . with the beertaps sticking out the top . . .is a BAR.

But that is an amazing room . So art deco. So like a 60's film set .

Neat pictures but definitely not our room. Our room was started in 1964 and taken over by my father in 1966. There was actually another Cue and Cushion down the street from us in the 60s. Not related, nor is it the picture in this thread. Plenty of pics on our website for anyone interested. Thanks! Craig
