I,m looking for a cue builder that is known to make a stiff hitting cue ,and one that works with burl woods. A fairly new maker that looks promising and not so expensive. Please tell me why you think he is a comer, and also how to reach him. I will tell him that you recomended him. Thanks in advance to all who respond. Tn.T

Get ahold of Pat Diveney

I have one of Pat's cues with his "famous" Lake salvage shafts and the hit is phenomenal. Really firm with nice response. If not him Cory Barhart for sure.

Pat's cues are nice but not what i would call stiff.if stiff is what you want get Cory Barnhart to make you one.

Gene La Viness of Crown Cues likes working with burls and can make a stiffer-hitting shaft, if you prefer it. He also has some pretty reasonable prices.

Just for curiosity reasons, why are you wanting a stiffer hit? Masse' shots? Break cue? Just your playing style?

I would suggest Troy Downey. His cues hit nice and stiff, and very reasonably priced. He has 3 new designs with burls that just came out; thuya, amboyen, and bubinga(looks like burl), ALL FOR UNDER 800.00!!! I have two of his cues and they play lights out, just ask gabe owen.

i guess the pertinent questions would be, what do you want the cue to look like, including all materials at every aspect, and what is your budget?? these might open the door to whom you could seek for the work.

great looking cues at a great price.

Try Doug Patrick. He makes a great looking cue at a very reasonably price. I play with an ebony w/ 6 amboyna burl points with ivory joint and a radial pin. The cue has a solid hit. He has his own laminated shaft also.

No Doubt About It!!!

Tim Scruggs Or Mike Caochran. Best Cues Out There For The Money. Play Jam Up And Cant Beat The Quality.

Depends on what you want made out of the Burl. Points, handle, butt, or what. That wood is really expensive. I was over at Cory Barnhart's a couple of days ago, and he showed me a cue that he is making with a segmented Amboyna Burl handle (Beautiful!!). He said the piece he is using for the handle alone was really expensive. Just an absolute knock-out, though... someone is going to be very, very happy.

BTW, if you want a quality cue with a stiff hit, Cory Barnhart is who I would recommend.

Thanks Joe. They are much nicer in person. The one with the leather wrap has very little play on it and the wrap-less one is new un-chalked. Both cues are in my personal collection. Wait to you see the next amboyna burl one that I will be getting in about 6-8 weeks. It will blow these two out of the water hands down.
