Hello there,

Just wondering who are the cuemakers that also make guitars.
Not looking to make guitars but I have complete exotic wood guitar sets that some of our cuemakers might be interested on...

I make worm bins , but cant spin them on a lathe either . Jim

Two that at least USED to make guitars are Bob Flynn (Qmaker) and Jim Leach (Cue Guru).

Edit: Now that I think about it, Bob Thompson is another.

You can make Banjos on a lathe.
The original Banjo was a section of stove pipe with a skin stretched over top.
You could also make the pipes for a Bag Pipe on a lathe, but who the heck would want to, unless you are a Scottish cue maker.

Just kidding, I love Bag Pipe music. I think KJ does too.

And Jim, there are a lot of worms out there with homes now, thanks to you.

Haven't seen Jim around for a bit but hes no slouch on the cue side of things either.
He did mention that he doesn't make guitars any longer.

Funny you say that... I do play bagpipe and flute.

And Irish wooden flutes are another instrument you could do on a lathe.

So Tony, tell me how a guy from Portugal knows how to play the Pipes.
This might be an interesting story.

wine stoppers

i could not find any wine stoppers that fit my favorite wine, so with a few pieces of scrap purple heart, i now have the correct size stoppers. i also need a piece for a 6 foot tall fountain i was installing in my pool room, could not find anything that fit, so i make one out of wood cover it with 5 min epoxy, works great.
what are some of the other things you have used your cue lathe to build?

I made a checker set one time out of purple heart and zebra wood. I also made the board to go with it, but the board was not made on the lathe.

I made telescoping jump/masse bridge hand supports for a while and so many little things for around the house I can't even remember them all.

Speaking of guitars I made a couple of custom inlay machines for guitars some time ago. I tried to get my son to market them, but he had no interest even though guitars and pool are his two loves.

The legacy of bagpipes it is as old as the the legacy in Scotland. Portugal in the 8th/9th century BC was populated by the Celtics that brought that tradition over. Portugal and Spain (the area of Galicia) share the Bagpipe tradition.
As far as I know there were, until last year only 2 bagpipe makers alive in Portugal, quite a few still exist in Spain.

Anyway, thanks for the good responses, I know that cuemakers have other hidden talents.

I knew about Dan Dishaw, I was just wondering what other cuemakers were involved with guitars here on AZ.

Here is a pic of the last guitar I made (for my grand daughter). Sides and back
are from old, old Brazilian RW. Top is Sitka spruce.

I had a large lathe in my too small shop at first. If I remember, it had 36, maybe a bit more between centers. I had fun designing joint protectors and turning maple squares round but found I was only using 12" at most and it was taking up too much real estate so I sold it and got a mini.

This winter I hope to try making some pens and Jim Baxter makes nice walking canes so might try some as well.

I was just teasing about the banjos. I believe the round body may be made these days like drums. Bob F would know.
I was thinking if you had enuff swing on a wood lathe, you could do one like they turn a bowl.

I am building one for myself with brazilian rosewood and adarondack spruce top. Been fun so far but qmaker yours looks great. The bluegrass is where the money is at. Here in tn the custom builders do very well because of nashville.

actually my site is caromcues.com (the "s" is important), and yes I do make classical guitars -- 2 working at the moment.
