Custom Pool Room

To all the AZ'rs who follow this tread, I want to apologize for the previous rant. I don't want anyone to think I can't take suggestions or criticism or feel uncomfortable to ask questions. Some of you have offered suggestions even constructive criticism, which I have appreciated and I have read with an open mind. For instance: DoubleD helped me realize ceiling speakers might be a mistake, which I changed. I also got an idea for using stone veneers, a reminder and suggestion to install a security system, underskirting, lighting, I even got great info on computer jukeboxes, I'm even considering 9' tables! Even though I have two great oversize eights because I've been listening to a lot of you guys!
But what frustrates me is when someone comes across insinuating I don't know what I'm doing and says, I "SHOULD" have done something when it's a dumb idea. Fine, suggest it, but please don't post it in a manner that makes me look mas if I made a mistake with my own project.
Again I apologize and I hope I didn't come across as arrogant or over critical.
Hope ya'll keep following my project and keep your comments coming......

You have taken a lot of ideas and suggestions from others and from those you have made some changes to your original plan. That is awesome! Unless you have built many rooms like this in the past and learned from past mistakes, taking advice is very important. Ultimately it's your room and you have to be satisfied with your decisions. I don't know squat about building and therefore don't offer any advice. I prefer to see what others do, congratulate them on their success and hard work and from there take the ideas that I like and someday incorporate them into my own room. So far out of ALL the man caves that I've seen, I like this one the most and it's not even finished. I stand by my computer everyday just hoping for an update. It's like my drug of choice. I can't wait to see the finished product! I have a feeling that it will be amazing and most likely a design or idea that many of us will want to steal.

tryhonest07 did come off a bit like a know it all. I'm not sure if that was how they were intending to come off but hopefully they will come back on and clarify themselves. Or maybe they're not very good at expressing themselves and choosing the appropriate words.

Either way you soldier on Sir and know that I would carry nails and hammers for you any day...as long as we're building my poolroom! LOL!

There is one piece of advice that I will give you my friend and it has nothing to do with building. You have an incredibly supportive wife and I wish she would rub off on mine. You need to learn to dance for that pretty little wife of yours! Not sure what type of music she's into, but there's nothing sexier to a woman then a good Salsa, Merengue or any Spanish dancing!

Good luck my friend!

You used the wrong spacing on the screw locations on the ceiling as well as the walls. They need to be 12" OC for the ceilings and 16" OC for the walls. Corners, end walls and top plates use clips or stops to reduce blocking and to allow for a fully insulated interior. The use of clips is required at ceiling to wall joints and do not screw the ceiling board directly to the trusses within 16" of an interior wall.

All said tongue in cheek of course.....

Not necessary when using 5/8 and not in Texas. And I'm vary aware of the clips.

Drywall Completed

Well I finally completed the drywall. I just need to go around and add a few screws that I over looked. It's easy to do when you’re busy hanging sheets. Although it's been rewarding and fun, it's also been very tiring; physically and emotionally. I’m ready for a break!
And now I get it in the one phase I’m not going to tackle! Tape-float and texture. I have a friend coming to start that this weekend. He’s got a very busy schedule but I’m hoping he’ll be done in less than a week. There’s other guy’s I know but this guy takes pride in his work! I was also able to find time to clean the room out of all the tools and supplies.

Here are a few pics of the bathroom. I'm really pleased of how the Kohler faucet looks coming out of the wall. I really need to nail down the design of the bathroom though. Of the whole project I've always had a precise picture of how I wanted everything to look down to the tee. I think the only for sure detail we've decided on is the wood flooring, beisdes that, everything is still up in the air and I'm getting close to crunch time. My plans were to paint right after the Tapen-n-float was complete, which will be in a week or so.

I'm very proud of how my whole cuts came out around the faucet and plumbing. This will make it alot easier in the trim out phase.

Love the progress photos... thanks for all your hard work. I have a question for you. In one of the photos posted today, there is a round retro looking pub table next to the pool tables. Where did you get this? I'm interested in sourcing one just like it. I think it would be a nice addition to my billiard room's Anniversary table, and anyone with a Centennial for that matter.

I picked it up on craigslist for $10 including 4 retro stools. It's unfortunate your up north, I'd give it too you. I only got it becasue I wanted the stools but the table doesn't fit in with my plans.

Jealous!!

Man that looks really good!
I can't wait to see the after mud pics. What is the flooring going to be?
What kind of trade did you have to do/get for the wife to get a pool room?

Great father/son project too! Thanks for taking the time to share pics.

RE: your rant.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the internet, it is inevitable that you get unconstructive criticism. Sometimes it will be due to a failure to communicate, sometimes it will be due to jealousy, sometimes it will be just someone looking to create drama.

Take it all with a grain of salt.

My thumbnail calculation is that you are about 175 to 1 positive comments to negative. That is about is good as gets on the internet, and testament to your excellent work.

I have no doubt that this project will be an amazing and cherished part of your household--and it will be all the more satisfying knowing that you did it with your own two hands.

I have really enjoyed getting to watch this project evolve. Thanks for putting it out there for us to see.

Thanks.
For flooring I'm looking at a dark printed commercial type carpet and the trade was a privacy fence my wife had been asking for, for four years.

You are truly correct, your post really puts things into perspective and I like your reasons, I got this sign I'm gonna hang in the room.......

No Pink.
No Crying.
No Girls.
No Drama!

This is gonna be one heck of a man cave, I am eagerly waiting to see the finished product and I am pretty much jealous as hell.

What an awesome room! Thanks for going step by step. My dad just redid a foreclosure home for my hubby and I. The next step is the two car garage being turned into the pool room. All of your ideas and tips are awesome. Can't wait to see the end result!
