My deepest condolences to the Whittens. Just received the news last night that Dan Whitten passed away. A true pioneer in our business is gone. His original design has endured for more than 20 years and inspired endless copies. His son and daughter have carried on the business since many years and will continue to make the brilliant cases they are known for. Dan himself was as humble and as nice a guy as you could want to know. Someone who survived in the billiard business with grace and class, always with a good attitude and friendly advice. I don't know if Dan was at the US Open this past week but I sincerely hope he was so that he could see a lot of his long time friends and customers. For all of the Chesapeake years Dan's booth was right at the front door, the first friendly face you saw when coming in the door. An amazing craftsman who built his business on a simply elegant style. Dan will be missed and I am glad to have known him. Rest in peace my friend.

Our condolences

Our most sincere condolences to Joey and Jill. I always enjoyed talking to Dan at the shows. We are so sorry to hear this sad news.

What a shocker! I always figured he would be around long after I was gone. Our old group is slowly getting smaller. My deepest condolences to his family. Any one know what happened?

Our condolences to his family and friends. Dan was an excellent representative for the billiard industry and will be missed. Great craftsman and better person. RIP Dan.

A legacy in the pool world has passed. I will pray for his family and friends to get through these trying times.

RIP, Mr. Whitten!

He put allot of thought and quality into his products, I'm sure these traits permeated him and life, nice work, never did meet em, but would of liked to. He made the first/last case I ever had (and still do) that seems to cure the cue much like a humidor tends to its business. The moisture content and feel of the cue stick seemed natural when you pulled it out.
He did allot of good, that's how I remember him, and I sold a dozen of his cases for em yrs ago, never regretted it one bit. RIP

My deepest condolences to Joe, Jillian, and family. Dan was always upbeat and smiling every time I saw him. Our industry has lost a legend... he will be missed.

This is what I wrote on facebook and I can't echo it enough. Dan was always so gracious. I used to really look forward to saying hello at the shows and getting a few minutes to catch up. I am very sad that Dan is gone but glad that his legacy will continue through Joe and Jill.

From a case maker's perspective I want to say to all of you that IF you could look under the hood of a Whitten you would have an even deeper respect for the cases. Dan figured out some unique methods to achieve a case that truly is an iconic design. If Dan had chosen to make phones then he would have made the Iphone.

And when Joe came into the business he and his dad worked to make the cases even better and they did. If being mercilessly copied is a mark of success then Whitten is gigantic because I can tell you that there are many who try to do what Whitten does but none of them ever really understood the soul of what makes a Whitten case special. And that soul has left it's earthly form and lives on in every Whitten case that exists.

Again, mine and Karen's deepest condolences. Godspeed Dan.

My very deepest condolences go out to the Whitten family.

For some reason, in all my travels, I never met Dan personally. I only knew him as a friendly voice at the other end of the phone line, on RSB, and through his fabulous work. I have always been a fan of his clean, streamlined designs and he made me my first case some 20 years ago and a second all-alligator version of the same design 10 years later.

One testament to the quality of his work is that, for many years now, every Ginacue comes shipped in it's own Whitten case and Ernie will not accept a cue back for work unless it is shipped, and properly protected, in its Whitten.

Dan was a legendary craftsman and I am very sorry to hear of his passing.

My condolences to his family, never spoked to him but I have bought a couple of his cases and talked to Joe, great cases!

May you rest in peace and be assured your legacy will live on!
