Danny Basavich

That story is in there.
Get the book. It's great.

Oh I got it the first week it was out. I know i got Bristol to autograph it- Not sure if i ever got Danny. Anyway it was probably 10 years or more ago and I'm ancient so i don't remember many of the stories.

It may have been in the book but anyway Danny told me himself that Andy Quinn gave him the 7 AND BEAT him. That was when Danny was fat and had a real off day. He lost a ton of weight and got down to id say 190 or so.

He went back to Quinn's room and Quinn didn't recognize him. They played again EVEN and Danny took the cheese. I can understand Quinn not recognizing him but how do you miss that voice!!??

It's probably fair to say not all of his stories were 100% accurate.

If I were to tell a story from 15 years ago, I'd probably get about half of it right. I can't imagine writing a whole book.

It was great seeing Danny at SBE. Was on my way out Sunday night when I heard "the voice". Not sure how he faired at the tournament.

Ran into Danny many years ago at Derby City. Discussed Bill Payton with him. Bill had just paid a visit to Rochester and took home all the cheese. Danny told me "Will Paye" was the second best out on the road at the time. Of course Danny was the best  . Really not so sure but..... I'm not in a position to argue.

Ha that's great. I re-read it on vaca so it's all fresh again.

Spent a day with him last summer and he said the publishing house fact-checked the entire book.

The author said he went to great lengths to fact check as much as he could.
It's in the book too.

I had two of Danny's book, great read. Here's a cute true story for those interested:

"Cheyenne Pete" is suffering from Alzheimer's and it's very bad. Pete remembers the past but cannot remember yesterday. I visited him in an assisted living home in Fort Collins a couple years ago that was a temporary stop over for him and remembered that he was mentioned in Kid's book. I brought him one of my copies and highlighted and marked the page he's talked about and showed it to him (says Kid won 50 game at $50/game or something like that). He read it and his face lit up saying "not sure he won 50 games, but he played great and beat him bad".

I visited Pete again a couple weeks later just before he was moving to a facility in WY and he had that book out reading that page again. He didn't remember I visited him earlier, but he did remember me from the old days...but he was reading that book. It brought a smile to my face. I wonder how many patients he had talked to about it?

Thanks Kid D for allowing Pete to remember his past. I wish you well in your return to pool, we have missed you!

Wasn't road man the guy Grady was playing at DCC when the fire alarm sounded?

Now I kind of want to read the book lol

Go get the book, if you like pool I promise you will not be disappointed. Its one of those books thats hard to put down once you start, there are not really even any dull parts. The author does a fantastic job of telling the "Kid Delicious" story beginning to end.

Wondering if anyone had played Kid Delicious back in the day....

I have.. lost 10 straight 1p. Never seen anyone get out of traps and run out like he did.

I was at Earls, in that little town of Warsaw, one time when he came in. Think I played some 5 a game with him. Knew who he was, and at that time it wasn't a secret. Think he was just passing through from somewhere else.

What I remember best was his jump cue, looked like a mop handle it was so thick.

Has it ever been said who the steer man was? It is jay helfert, right?:grin-square:

I think they said his name in the book. It was Greg something I think and he allegedly lived in/near Chicago. He was supposed to have a son that was fixin to be a world beater.

I did a couple months on the road with Danny......we went busted in Tulsa......his weight was pretty low at that time though. As I seem to remember it he played golf on the 10' for 2 days straight then tried to play Brian Jones 9ball....we lost three 7 ahead sets pretty fast.......I told him he needed to get out of bunt stroke first and that this guy can play....fun guy though, he had the ability of beating people of of their cheese and making them love him......charisma in spades!

He used to go by "Fat Danny" before going with Kid Delicious.

Here's another Danny road story that (I can't remember) wasn't i nthe book:

At one point, Danny was in the upper midwest and was looking for a game. Greg sent him and Carlos (I think Carlos was with him) to So Dakota to play a young, deaf kid that likes to bet. So, Danny took the ride, met up with SVB and snapped him off for a few thou. I would say SVB was about 20 at the time?

I seem to remember Shane sorta confirmed this on AZB, years ago, when he was using "SouthDakotaKid". I remember telling this story and he chimed in posting that "the kid" would like another shot at that.
