Darren Appleton is a great tournament player, but...

I don't know if it would ever be possible, but I would love to see a "high stakes" tournament on TAR with Shane, Alex, Daz, Dennis, Francisco, Dechaine, Archer, and one other player.

Each player puts up $5,000 or $10,000. 10 ball, races to 25, single elimination. You could do two matches Friday, two on Saturday, and the last three on Sunday. Winner take all. Of course, you'd have to start the matches earlier, but I'd imagine most would still pay for the stream.

Just wishful thinking.

I always wanted to get $25K added together and have an eight man $5K entry event. Single elimination, long race pay out top four something like:

1st: $30K
2nd: $15K
3-4: $10K

Win a match make money. Lose first round you are SOL. Winner take all is pretty much a non-starter mainly because it would take a spread sheet to figure out all the savers.

Just gotta get in the couch cushions and dig up that $25K.

That would work too. How about the format I suggested earlier, but pay out top two spots? $5K each

1st: $25K
2nd: $15K

We could even do a poll on here to figure out the 8 players. Maybe have a poll of 12 or so players, and the 8 with the highest votes gets to play.

Man, now I'm all excited to see if this would ever happen.

Daz is one of the best players in the world on what I call the "Big stage" the finals at a world championship, seems the bigger the match the better he plays, he comes with it stronger and stronger the more pressure he has. thats what he is best at IMO.

SVB is amazing playing TAR matches, when he has not won its because he wasnt fully dedicated to pool at those times, Shane has to play a lot to play his game, thats just how it is for him. so when he lives his life outside of pool, his pool game suffers a bit(I'm the same I have to play 30,40 hours a week or i'm not 95+% in stroke). SOme people need to play more than others to play to their top potential.

I think its great Daz moved, and I hope he does well in what ever he does, BB or world titles, etc. he is in a tough game now, as SVB has been playing and is focused. At the moment he is playing Shanes game and thats tough action for him.

I know Shane aint counting him out and he knows that he has to come to play tomaro, if he dont Daz will chop him up. Never count Daz out.

Thanks to JCIN for his contributions to pool,

best

Not so much a gambler. At least not yet. He looked nervous. He got Shane's B game and couldn't fade it or the score would have been worse.

He didn't put 3 degrees of heat on Shane.

One of the best tournament players in the world, but not ready for prime time gambling.

I thought tha match was not gambling but a paid performance.

There are a ton of top tier tourny players that can't bet water is wet.

Some guys can play the short sets for the dough and some can't. There are also a ton of guys that can gamble top speed but can't show any speed in a tourny.

Bartram is a great example of a guy that doesn't play well in tournys but can gamble with anybody. There are several others but I won't out them.

The only reason I single Chris out is that he has pointed the exact same thing out himself in the past. And he hasn't tried to hide his speed for several years now.

I think Darren was just off today, etc, and I don't question either player's desire to win. But, if it would ever be to a player's advantage to lay down a hair it would be in a super cheap, super high profile match like this one lol.

When your in the finals of a tournament your not taking the heat?

What about when you're getting backed?

You shouldn't be, nothing to lose at that point. You paid an entry fee, you are at no risk.

I don't know about getting backed. Got backed one time by Ronnie Wiseman in 99, told myself I was quitting pool the next time I let anyone stake me. To this day it's never happened. And I've gambled my own cash since then, and bet as high if not higher than 99% of all pool players.

All I'm saying is, most players get backed 100% and risk nothing. Doesn't mean they don't take the heat. They are still trying to get paid and will fight hard for it. Even in the finals of a tourny or this format, there is a $2000 swing. You're not losing your rent money but you sure want to get the cash. It's not like they are playing for funzies.

Don't get me wrong, I think they are both playing to win. They both have a lot of pride . But it's a lot easier to give up in this kind of match. A whole lot.

DAZ had given up yesterday at 12-6. His body language said it all. And out of those 6 games, 3 were gifts at that point as SVB had hung the 9 twice and the 10 once all in the same pocket.

These formats I don't think suits SVB well either. He has lost the last 3 TAR matches, since it went into the exhibition style, correct? And he did not play well last night.

Make him put something on the line or play for someone putting it up and the beast comes out of that kid. In those long sets, to 100, I don't think there is a human alive that stands a chance in 10 ball. In all other games (8,9,Ball, Banks, One Pocket, Str8 pool) yes they got a shot. But 10 Ball oh, no.

There were just two people named Chris that posted in this thread, one of which is a player but he didn't exactly call darrin out. That's why I asked. He has played and beat darrin for the cash, where darrin played frustrated, bad and couldn't break.
