Day 2 Mosconi Matches in Progress Coverage

I heard from announcers it will be 3 singles and 2 double matches.

On a side note; All AZ'rs need to send email to ESPN and let them know what a great job they are doing. I love the camera angles on the shots, and the way they "get low" on the cue-to-ball camera view is awesome.

That's a good observation...big improvement on camera angle selection, in the past too many pocket cameras or tight shots that missed the post collision CB action. This year they go wide to let us see the WHOLE shot a lot more than before. I could do without the three-peat slow mo break replays, though...just a filler, but something I always fast forward through on YouTube. But Live, it's brutal.

I actually believe that this is where coaching will actually come into play...Mark Wilson chose soldiers that will respond to instruction/correction. You see a total 180 on attitude from the get go, no chirping, no antics, just focus on the game and respect for the team, the opponent and the crowd. They tried to bait Justin to complain about the crowd during the post match interview, and he only complimented them. I mean, come on, they've been using radar guns to verify speed for stun shots and draw shots from all distances all year long. I doubt any American team has spent more energy getting prepared than this one.

What do you think the line up wiill be tomorrow? With Hall only playing one match today I expect to see a heavy dose of him. I would guess that Corey will only play one match tomorrow since hes played two matches the past two days. Tomorrow is a huge day in terms of strategy for the line ups.

It would be great to thank espn for providing coverage, but I believe that matchroom/sky sports are probably the ones to thank for the actual production.

I predict Hall, Shane and Schmidt play singles, with Bergman/Schmidt and dealer's choice on the last pairing. Maybe Deuel/Hall...

On second thought, I don't know the rules on the number of times a pairing can be used, but the Hall/Bergman combo is rock solid, they've been playing together for years and work like total equals...pretty strong win from them, I think they'll be the most consistent choice to go forward with.

I agree, if its possible Mark should definitely pair bergman and hall together. They have been the best pairing by far! Either way, you have to feel good about USAs chances considering our best player hasnt played anywhere close to his speed.

There are 10 possible combinations in the doubles matches and you have to use 7 of them. You cannot use the same pair twice.

There are two double matches tomorrow and obviously Hall/Bergman will not be one of them (see rule above).

Like I said earlier, Bergman - Hall is this years 'A' team in doubles. That is why they went first today to get the day started off right.

Tomorrow the USA must win more lags than they lose, they must play better and not give their opponent ball in hand (especially when shooting a flyer as was done twice today), and they must steal a match.

I'll count on others tomorrow to post about the matches as I'll be out.

On day four, I'll return. Hope I've been helpful to this point.

My slant on Day 2:

Hall was amazing, Bergman played well in singles but blew a good chance to beat Feijen in singles. Overall, though, he played quite well. Schmidt didn't play well at all today in his doubles match. Deuel was terrible in singles and was bailed out by Shane in the day's final match. Shane, despite a day-saving shot in the last match, is playing poorly.

Day 2 Grades
Hall A
Bergman B
Shane C+
Schmidt C
Deuel C

Grades through Day 2
Hall A-
Schmidt B
Bergman C+
Deuel C
Van Boening C

Hope everyone enjoys the Wednesday matches.

Jhall has been my friend for 18 years and it's nice that he finally gets to shine a little on a big stage. He has dedicated every minute of his life to pool without recognition for his efforts. Everyone thinks he's just a bank and 1 pocket player but he was beating champions playing rotation for a long time, just not when the camera was on.

I missed the Day 2 matches as I was en route to Manila. Looks like the boys had a rough time of it yesterday but thanks to Shane are still hanging tough. They need one good day under their belts where everyone plays solid (how about Day 3!). Not sure what's going on with Corey. He looks like the weak link so far. Missing Jeremy now.

Yes, Corey is struggling, but it is better to dwell on the positive and the positive is Justin Hall, whose play was outstanding on both days. Although he hit our radar a couple of years ago at the Southern Classic, he really arrived at the 2014 US Open with a seventh place finish. Now he's backing it up.

Wow, am I impressed with Justin Hall. The best two players in this Mosconi Cup so far have surely been Ekonomopoulos and Hall.

Tomorrow's another day, of course, and we'll see how it goes.

I think Corey should be playing the absolutely minimum from this point forward. Hall should be given every opportunity possible to anchor this squad

So as expected USA did better in doubles winning 3 out of 5 . Their poor suit is singles winning only 1 out of 4 . 2 doubles matches remain tomorrow with rest of matches 9 singles matches . Best chance to win whole thing is for USA to win remaining 2 doubles so they only need to then win 5 out of 9 singles. However, if they lose 2 doubles, then they will need to win 7 out of 9 singles which will be extremely tough

Looks like Hall is gonna have the chance to start a US comeback with the first 2 matches of the day.
Hopefully the boys can finish Day 3 on top and make for an exciting final day of action!

Hall and Bergman play great together always have I'm very excited too see halls matches tomr gonna be good day 3 go USA

Johan not making it easy for Team USA. Nikos has, I feel, been Europe's best player so far, and Johan has him in each of the first two matches. Not to be outdone, Mark Wilson has done the same, putting his hottest player, Justin Hall, up in these two matches, as well. Both coaches pulling the right strings here.

These first two matches on Wednesday are the key to the Mosconi Cup and the US needs to get at least one of them keep things in order.
