He was still an amatuer. I recall J. Jones played in the amatuer then won the masters the following year.

Day 4, and the field is narrowing down. Players are hopeful, and the ones who win their first match are still not counting their chickens before they're hatched. Every single player who's still in this has $350,000 on their mind. The possibility of collecting the big prize is within their reach.
I was speaking to Brian Saleh yesterday who told me he's having the time of his life. He's met so many of the American players and gotten to know them. I enjoyed listening to him when he told me of his experience at a night club here in the Venetian called Tao. Tao is supposed to be THE best night club in the world.
Jeanette Lee was putting on an exhibition, and since her husband was still in the tournament at that point, Aaron C. was Jeanette's escort to this event. Brian Saleh and some others went as well. Jeanette had challenge table matches and mingled with the crowd. There were Chinese artists who wrote people's names in Chinese, a palm reader, a magician, and acrobats all throughout the night club, and the event was FREE, including the food. Brian said each night he's been here in Vegas, he's had an awesome experience.
Colin is doing a good job on the updates, and I'm dragging a bit, trying to keep my eyes open. Late night last night at the Rio where the big poker tournament is unfolding. Ricky Byrd, Jimmy Fusco, Jeremy Jones, Harry Platis, Jimmy Mataya were some of the pool folks in attendance.
I may hit the sack this afternoon and get an hour or two nap before tonight. Each match this evening is going to be intense, and I'm looknig forward to sweating it. I spoke to Dee Adkins of Ohio who is playing well. He won his first match today. I asked him how he prepared for this tournament, and he said he literally gave up all of his "bad" habits, which include the horses and gambilng. He practiced every single day on a Diamond table, and by the looks of it, it's paid off. Dee is in the driver's seat to the winner's circle. Nothing would please me more than to see Dee win this event, knowing he has a large family with many mouths to feed. It would change their life forever. Of course, I'm also pulling for Larry Nevel and Dave Matlock, both qualifier players. Whoever wins this one, it's going to make front-page news around the world. Pool at its finest!
BTW, the IPT members who are in this round are GUARANTEED their tour card next year, worth at least $100,000. Two of the four tournaments in 2006 will have a limited field of 150 IPT members, with no 50 extra qualifier players. If the qualifier players in this event and next event do well, they're also guranteed the 2007 tour card. There are some very happy pool players in the house today!
