The point is, Diamond arranged this event with a casino that has VERY few alternate accommodation options close enough to be practical. Even if all 300 rooms are booked and used, that leaves a bunch of people who WANT to come to the DCC, but don't want to pay 2 grand just for the room. Oh yeah. And 25.00 for the buffet.
I would have rather the tournament be played somewhere where the venue really does appreciate our business. I think we all know that if the DCC attendees don't "gamble enough", that we probably won't be welcome back enxt year. I'm betting they could give two shits less whether we have a successful tournament, as long as they earn a certain amount from us at the tables.

Russ,
This is the first year of DCC with Harrah's (Indiana). Basically the "trial" event, and Harrah's really don't know how monumental of Pool Tournament DCC is. All they have to go by is the stats from previous Pool tournaments usually WPBA or even Reno Open and probably are little skeptical of - breaking even...
After the - Coming Out - show, who knows what will happen, they may offer better discount and even more rooms for future events. DCC Crew, Greg Sullivan and his awesome team did everything they could to give the players and fans the best deal they could get without kidnapping and holding Harrah's hair to a bargain:grin-square:
And no, there are not a lot of alternate stays immediately near the casino, but it was the best solution after weighing out ALL the criteria. So much is required for the tournament this size, it's never as simple as it seems.
Yes, buffet can be expense, but there are pocket friendly sandwich shops and other restaurants too in the casino. Plus, I know many of DCC patrons ate in their room to save $$$ even at the Executive West
Gambling in the casino? I think the Harrah's is well aware that they are hosting a pool tournament. However, the pool players are quite notorious for gambling in the casino as well, believe it or not... (Many pro players also moon light as poker players - Jay, help me out!!! And some pro players go bonkers at the Craps table. I've witnessed them going off for 10s and upward of thousands in one night at the craps table) However, but the ugly truth is, yes - they are hoping the pool players turn around and bust their tourney winnings to them...
Whether that happens or not, is up to the players prerogative, but I think Harrah's will still be impressed with the boost of their alcohol and food sale alone to BEG DCC back.

Edited for grammar... I confuse myself too when I write...
