I don't think I'll be coming this year. The casino only gave up so many rooms at the DCC rate, and I don't particularly feel like driving every day from another location.

And I am sure as hell not paying the ridiculous rates they normally charge.

I really hope that things work out for Greg, but I gotta say I am disappointed with his choice to get in bed with Caesar's. I googled and googled, but found little to nothing in the way of alternate accommodations closer than 9-10 miles away from Caesar's. I couldn't even find a bed and breakfast closer than that!

I don't see any but the richest of pool nuts paying the $200+ a night that Caesar's is charging. I was going to come for the ENTIRE DCC (and play all three tournaments) this year with my wife, if I could have gotten the DCC rate, but I won't come for a single night at $200 a night.

Mebbe I am just cheap.

its Harrahs, but I fully understand your point and agree with you. I am going to see how it is, I think it will be ok, but not what it was.

That's why you book ahead of time.....you can always cancel if needed. If you think there is even a chance of going....BOOK it.

Better to be safe than sorry.

The point is, Diamond arranged this event with a casino that has VERY few alternate accommodation options close enough to be practical. Even if all 300 rooms are booked and used, that leaves a bunch of people who WANT to come to the DCC, but don't want to pay 2 grand just for the room. Oh yeah. And 25.00 for the buffet.

I would have rather the tournament be played somewhere where the venue really does appreciate our business. I think we all know that if the DCC attendees don't "gamble enough", that we probably won't be welcome back enxt year. I'm betting they could give two shits less whether we have a successful tournament, as long as they earn a certain amount from us at the tables.

im coming and i booked early to get one of the room at the casino. I think it was 130 for fri/sat and 105 for the rest of the week. Chop that up by a few buddies and its really not that bad. I do have some concerns about what the action will be like. Myself, I might as well just admit that the siren song of the casino will be too much for me to overcome and I am 100% positive I will be throwing dice and searching for 21, probably every day that im there. It funny, im arriving too late to play in the banks, leaving early that I cant play in the 9ball event and I'm not even sure if I will bring my cue....but yet I'm certain that I will be gambling in the casino (and probably losing). Im also sure that I am not alone in the mentality of the pool players bringing gambling money in Jan so I am worried about the health of the DCC.

Russ,

This is the first year of DCC with Harrah's (Indiana). Basically the "trial" event, and Harrah's really don't know how monumental of Pool Tournament DCC is. All they have to go by is the stats from previous Pool tournaments usually WPBA or even Reno Open and probably are little skeptical of - breaking even...

After the - Coming Out - show, who knows what will happen, they may offer better discount and even more rooms for future events. DCC Crew, Greg Sullivan and his awesome team did everything they could to give the players and fans the best deal they could get without kidnapping and holding Harrah's hair to a bargain:grin-square:

And no, there are not a lot of alternate stays immediately near the casino, but it was the best solution after weighing out ALL the criteria. So much is required for the tournament this size, it's never as simple as it seems.

Yes, buffet can be expense, but there are pocket friendly sandwich shops and other restaurants too in the casino. Plus, I know many of DCC patrons ate in their room to save $$$ even at the Executive West;)

Gambling in the casino? I think the Harrah's is well aware that they are hosting a pool tournament. However, the pool players are quite notorious for gambling in the casino as well, believe it or not... (Many pro players also moon light as poker players - Jay, help me out!!! And some pro players go bonkers at the Craps table. I've witnessed them going off for 10s and upward of thousands in one night at the craps table) However, but the ugly truth is, yes - they are hoping the pool players turn around and bust their tourney winnings to them...

Whether that happens or not, is up to the players prerogative, but I think Harrah's will still be impressed with the boost of their alcohol and food sale alone to BEG DCC back.

Edited for grammar... I confuse myself too when I write...

I got those same rates for the first six days, 1/23 (evening) -1/29 (morning), and I made my reservations just four days ago. Still, the hotel had no rooms left for the last three days.

I have never made the trip for the DCC but sometime I am sure that I will. I hear from a lot of the UK based players that it really is a must.

However, at $200 per night I can see the problem that some of you guys are experiencing, especially when we are now in a global recession. It is obvious a business has to make money or it would not survive, however, with so many players and fans converging on one venue for such a period of time surely better concessions could be made? Not only are they making on the rooms but also the bars and restaurants as well.

Good luck to all that make the journey.

wow, i didn't realize this, but my girlfriend's parents live within 20 minutes of where it will be played. If I can't make it this year, I'm definitely going to be going many years after that.

Dam Man, let up on the guy a little bit. If you have never tried to put on these together you just don't appreciate how hard it is and what all goes into.

Hotels are vry tough to deal with and they want everything booked out yesterday. Plus, not every place cn handle this kind of crowd.

Greg is no dummy by any means. He will figure it all out.

I'm going to play in the 3 Cushion at the Pendennis Club ..... but am very disappointed about the Casino venue. Probably won't even go to the Derby. I'm lucky to have a friend living in Louisville that I can stay with.

I hope nexst year is back in a different venue ........ I had a great time last year ..... and stayed for the whole thing.
