DCC Hotel Proposal

Las Vegas in January in not busy, they have room for all price ranges, food is every where. Be it gourmet, buffet, or a hot dog. Air Fair from place like NYC are inexpensive as Las Vegas is transportation hub. Las Vegas has it head over heals over Louisville.

Check Air Fares from San Francisco, NYC, Boston, Miami, LA to Louisville, and than to Las Vegas and you might see my point.

BTW the Riviera is not the only Hotel with a Convention Center, maybe it is just the CHEAPEST, and most accommodating to the BCA. Also the city OWN a LARGE Convention Center off the Strip.
LOL. Ok. My bad.

I was trying to make a point with well reasoned thoughts backed up by personal experience. But I missed something.

Las Vegas has food and a convention center.

What was I thinking?

Geeeeeeezzzzzzzzzz

I wouldn't pay $162 a night to stay in Louisville if that rate included a hooker and an open mini-bar.

1000 bucks to stay at the imperial palace in janurary 2009 for 9 days. I don't know if anybody has stayed there but it is a sh*t hole to say the least. Flights from new york to vegas 350. Flights new york to louisville 190 bucks. I understand there is more to do in vegas. All things considered though moving from louisville to vegas would be stupid to say the least.

Now moving to Cincy, lexington or Indy might be different. Vegas as I said would suck unless you lived close to there. As central as Louisville is it would benefit the most people. IMO

You don't seem to be getting it. The location of it is unrealistic for people who are on the east coast. (Which means the bulk of the populace.) Anything out west just isn't going to get the draw as it is now. Vendors are mostly located around the east coast area and logistics would make it unfeasable to go to an event 2000 or more miles away.

I get it as I live on the West Coast, and Vegas is a six hour drive for me:) , and Kentucky is 2.5 days.

My ideas was a suggestion as January post New Years is very slow in Sin city, and I would think they would love to have the SCC there.

In the end Greg @ Diamond will decide, and not all will be happy I bet.

Last time I drove Solo to Kentucky it was from Stockton CA, in January, and found snow, and ice the whole route, and was held to hours of driving regulations, and a log book. January in no a fun time to drive long distances.

Well you won't be driving a big rig up there for the DCC so none of that stuff really matters anymore. :)

CocoboloCowboy have you ever been to the DCC in Kentucky?

I would bet it all that no matter where Greg has the tourny not all would be happy. But I am grateful as hell that there is people like Greg and the TAR guys out there doing what they do. I cant ****ing wait for the DCC no matter where Greg decides to have it!!! :D

Nope, and I asked long ago about the 2009 event as I would like to come. Plus in the end Greg @ Diamond will decide on the location. Than I will decide if I can afford to do it.

You can't have everything and you can't please everyone...but for those who can't afford the Galt, there are TONS of motels in the area...very close by that I am sure have $60-75 rooms.

I know it's great to be in crawling distance back to your rooms buy hey...as I said...you can't have everything.

And as I am sure Greg knows full well, there is a huge advantage to being in Lousiville. Not every location will ignore the gambling that is part of the heart and soul of the DCC.

If it is not held in Louisville, then Diamond and the gamblers had better get it in WRITING from local law enforcement that open and substantial gambling is going to be allowed. If not, then a couple of plain clothed cops could bust a LOT of people on FELONY charges.

Be careful out there.

another day

Tried to set up another meeting with the hotels, but it's put off till noon on Monday. .... I do appreciate everyones comments....I'm going to let you all know some of my major concerns..

1. I am willing to move the even to another location, probably South, but only as a LAST resort. The cost of the move would not stop me. It would however have to be a special location with many of the things I'm getting ready to tell you.

2. I've always tried to stay away from Casinos because I wanted as much money as possible ending up within the pool community, but that doesn't mean I definitely wouldn't do an event in a Casino if the conditions were right for the players.

3. I played in the Swanee tournament this year and learned alot. It was very well run, however at the end of the day I was so worn out waiting for matches that I almost forfeted my last match the first day, because of shere exhaustion. By the way my hotel, Days Inn, was a couple blocks from the tournament and approx. $140 per night and resembled a Motel 6....... ............
What this event did was give me new found respect for the players at the DCC who indure the waiting all day and not knowing when you're going to play you're match.....I promised myself to not put on another event unless I had enough tables to assign times for matches and have extra tables to practice and match up. I think the Galt House could make this happen....If we get the Ex. West location again even though there will be more tables than before we may have to consider limiting the field!
None of this is in stone right now only things to consider!!

4. I really don't want to go to the Ex. West (Crown Plaza to be). With the size limitation, I'll be going backwards. I'll loose the leagues on 7fts. infact the Clarion where we put 60 7fts. this year owes us around $8,000 and it looks like their parent company is going out of business........ Makes it hard to think of doing anything with them in the future!...Also I've enjoyed having the 3 cushion players attending the DCC..&..Don't want to loose them..I need to find a place to have everyone under one roof...We're trying!

5. I understand room rates...I'm going to put my foot down any see what happens...Caesars in Indiana has contaced us. However, you know my feeling on casinos, but I may use them as barganing tool and let the Galt House Exec's know I have alternatives...... I'm going to listen to what Caesars has to say.... They have enough room for about the same number of 9fts as the Executive West and around 400 rooms. I don't know what the room rates would be at this time or any details, but the place would be impressive........Still not enough room for the other events I mentioned above! But even if they don't become the new DCC we may have another event there at a future date if they make make the right offer.....There's more but that's enough tonight....just looked and it's 3AM. Shows how slow I am at typing!!! Greg

This is great on so many levels. Not only is it better for the players, it's also better for the fans. This could really be the thing that elevates the DCC into the statosphere.

On a side note, how does the "Diamond Derby City Classic" sound?

DDCC is not a bad acronym. Easy to type. Folks might shorten it in speach and end up calling it the "Diamond" which wouldn't be bad.

It took me a year or so to realize that it's really Diamond's tournament. It seems like everytime someone says Derby City or DCC, it's really not as accurate as it should be.

Good luck with everything. Let's do this thing right and get some better rates and do this thing at the Galt!

Well you guys need to keep in mind there are tons of cheaper hotels within basically walking distance.

Yes, but part of getting a good deal from the Galt is assuring them of 600 room rentals. If everyone (or many) book cheaper lodging elsewhere, then the deal is off. I think they have to guarantee the use of 600 rooms or pay additional.
Doug
( or, I may be completely wrong )

.

Well one thing too is downtown there is lots of food options, which is rpobably cheaper/better than eating at the hotel.
