Well one thing too is downtown there is lots of food options, which is rpobably cheaper/better than eating at the hotel.

Well, you don't use the QUOTE button, so I'm not certain who or which post you are referring too BUT, if you get a room somewhere else and you EAT somewhere else, what's the benifit for the Galt holding the tournament there ?

I've been going to the DCC for quite a few years and I'm driving 6 hard hours in good weather and I want to keep going to Louisville as long as I can or untill they start having the DCC in the Queen City better known as Charlotte NC. The pro tournament for men and women is being held here in June 2008 and I live 10 miles away, so check out Charlotte Greg.--

Diamonds

If you have to move so be it.Just change the name to DIAMOND'S CITIES CLASSIC.Then you're open to ANY city & it's still DCC

Hello Greg,

I read your post where you mentioned that you would be willing to move to another location (as a last resort).

If you would consider moving the event to Dallas/Fort Worth area as a last resort, I can assist you in checking around here.

A few facts with regards to DFW for you to consider. It is about 800 miles from Louisville (12 hours drive by truck with trailer). About 2 1/2 hours flight from the West Coast, 3 hour flight from East Coast, 2 hour flight from Florida. The closest Casino is about 1 hour away.

Just let me know the rough parameters of what you are looking for such as sizes, # of rooms, etc. And I can start assisting in checking around.

You can't have everything and you can't please everyone...but for those who can't afford the Galt, there are TONS of motels in the area...very close by that I am sure have $60-75 rooms.

I know it's great to be in crawling distance back to your rooms buy hey...as I said...you can't have everything.

And as I am sure Greg knows full well, there is a huge advantage to being in Lousiville. Not every location will ignore the gambling that is part of the heart and soul of the DCC.

If it is not held in Louisville, then Diamond and the gamblers had better get it in WRITING from local law enforcement that open and substantial gambling is going to be allowed. If not, then a couple of plain clothed cops could bust a LOT of people on FELONY charges.

Be careful out there.

Regards,
Jim

This very thing happened years ago at Red's in Houston and I was one who got to ride downtown and chat with the judge. It weren't no fun etall.

Dude you really have no idea what you are talking about.

No amount of stupid smilies is going to change that.

Vegas is ridiculously expensive for the fans and especially the promoters compared to anywhere in the midwest. If the Riv ever does get imploded you can say good bye to pool tournaments in Vegas.

I don't believe this at all. Each year there are other casinos that try to get the events like the APA.

I personally was interviewed by some reps from the Tropicana. The Sands has also been interested.

Vegas is mega competitive right now for large groups.

One thing that would interest me if I were a promoter would be trying to find a location that offered easy and reasonable flight and driving access.

Hopefully it can be worked out to please the masses.

I personally have talked to the people who actually sign the contracts. My info is different from yours.

Nothing Greg does is going to please everyone. I have faith he will do what is best for the event, the game itself and the players.

Bottom line is where ever the DCC, or what they will call it if it is not in Derby City is, people will come.

There are nothing but complaints about the "food" in the last place it was held, but people still came.

Maybe an idea would be to bring some MRE's as they are pretty good if you are really hungry. <<<<--- That was a half - joke.

Don't Worry, I'm Including Myself....dammit

Well yeah, but what's he going to do for the people that just read AZB non-stop, seldom play, don't plan to attend the event and just have know-it-all opinions about everything ? C'mon, answer THAT. Well, I'm waiting... :)

Within the lst couple weeks I talked with a buddy that is a manager at a casino in Vegas. The economy slowing or halting is a real concern for many casinos. They make money but they need the traffic to do so.
He thought that his casino would last no more than 3 days without steady traffic.

It was a couple years ago when I talked with the Tropicanna guys. Oddly the Sands guys were with them as well. I did not talk with them. I am a nobody in the pool world and just happened to be where they were at the time.

I like that there are different events with different flavors to each one. However I think Vegas is the biggest draw for people in general.
With 7500 or so it casts a large shadow on the rest of the events.

Lets hope that the airlines dont keep cancelling as well. I feel for the people stranded this week.

Hope to see you at the BCA nationals
