Got the proposals from the two sites. Seems like they are very proud of their remodeling!!! First off the Executive West will undergo a name change as well as a new room rate of $110. Even though there will be room for a few more tables it won't be enough for the 7ft growth I'd like to see or the 3 cushion growth I'd hoped for!.....

The Gualt House would have the space for growth. 60 7ft tables, 60 9fts as well as a few 3 cushion..Also plenty of vendors and very nice atmosphere, but it comes with negatives. The room rate as stated today would be $146 a nite and a $12 daily parking...Seems like everything is getting rediculous!!

This is their first proposal and we're going to try and get a better deal. I understand things go up. Really the Gualt House and upgrades to the Executive West may be worth it, but if you are staying more than 3 or 4 days it gets too expensive IMO! I hope they give us better rates especially if you're staying for more than 1 event! I'll keep you posted....Greg

At $146 a nite and $12 parking, each room will need two sets of bunk beds with a set of ear plugs on each pillow.

Maybe you could propose a discounted rate for a certain length stay (at least 5 nights?)

Just a thought.
 
Hi Greg, It seems to me that they should do a lot better then that. I don't know for sure but i don't think there are many other events that bring that much business and that many people for that many days to the area. I might be wrong because i am not from there. I like a lot of others sure do love that tournament but like you said that can be quite expensive. I hope it don't stop people from coming but i am sure it will. I do wish you the best of luck in getting a better deal. Doug
 
I know for me, it's too much. Even with splitting it 4 ways, and thats if I can find anyone who will stay for all 3 events. Most places will do some kind of weekly rate, but if their regular rate is that high, I wouldn't count on much of a break. I hope you get it all worked out. It would be a shame to see this event die. It's the best

If the hotels are not willing to work with you, perhaps you should look at relocating to another region, if this is possible.

It is a possibility that these hotels also realize that you are in a bind here, and need to find something soon, in order to start making preparations. Seems to me that most everyone (players, vendors, and fans) will go to wherever the tournament is played, as long as the room prices are fair.

BTW the Hotel Rates that are being proposed are comparable to the SBE. FYI.

Start saving your pennies if you really want to make the trip, and for goodness sake a place to start would be STOP TIPPING The TIP Jar, at TACO BELL.

Greg, I know that you are doing your best to keep the cost down as much as possible, but with the proprosal that you gave will price me out. I only live a couple of hours away, but maybe moving to another region would be an answer. I know that even with the cost that Executive West gave, you are still going to get plenty of players. This is a great tournament for players like me to get a chance with the caliber of players that you draw. You have a tough decision, and I hope you can get a better proprosal. Good Luck.
 
Memphis memories...jacked out of the hotel

Some of you older guys might remember coming to memphis in the late 80's to the Airport Hilton. They gave us (bill and rosey) the conference area 10,000 ft, for 70 rooms per night times 5 nights guarenteed. All you guys showed up, 128 men and 32 women!!!! They sold everything they had, 200 rooms, all the food and all the beer, just like the derby.

We go back the month after to plan for the next year, they wanted $5,000 for the free room and went up 40% on the room rate.

Let's all be happy that greg got to stay as long as he did. We'll have to call it "cost averaging" and hope he does his best for us!

Yes, it's pretty nice. It was the host hotel of the BCA 8-ball Nationals a couple of times in the early 1980s as I recall. Back when the balls were reds/yellows/8.
 
how bout a little 20,000sq,ft addition onto the Diamond plant, and a few cots....I'm easy, I'll sleep anywhere! :D sounds silly, but if you guys owned the location for the Derby it would open up a whole new bunch of possibilities right?.
 
Yeah, and this is LOUISVILLE...not Philadelphia. $150/night is ridiculous...especially in the light of a 10 day event. The SBE is 4 days, and any other time of the year, the Radisson room rate is $69!

158.00 (room plus parking) per day for 9 days= $1422 plus $100 pet fee= $1522 plus that 18% hotel tax=$1795.00 before I ever buy food or gas.

I spent about $800 last trip down. Guess I should have doubled my income in this past year.

The Galt House means I would never be able to go.

The $110/ Executive rates are doable if I can find someone to split the rooms with. It's hard enough to find a pool player with a job that can both afford the trip AND get 9 days of vacation.

Good luck Greg in finding a compatible location. We are rooting for you.

For the business you take in, Greg, you have the juice to red-line their proposals. I'd tell Gualt $99/night and no parking fee...take it or leave it.

Are there any casinos out that way? They seem to be able to give the best deals when a large venue is needed.

I've just been informed that they are offering rates of $110 and $119 on the internet for rooms at the Galt House. Spelling error by me not Gault. Anyway that should make for some interesting discussions tomorrow. Maybe I'm being charged in some way for the areas I'm using for the pool tables....enough for tonight!..Greg
