DCC Hotel Proposal

Greg...........I know you're juggling a lot of options/scenarios, and potential options/scenarios - let me just address one of them....

As a couple of other posters have already mentioned re. the Galt House's expensive room rates, some players could stay at other less expensive motels in town, others could choose to stay at the Galt House......That said, and this is just my opinion, and personally I like the Galt House possibility, but when you are evaluating the Galt House scenario, I don't think the option of making it MANDATORY for players playing in the tournament to stay at the Galt House would be a good idea.........As you probably know, Mark Griffin went this route last fall for his Pool Olympics, and I think it hurt him.....I personally know of several players who didn't go to his tournament because of it being mandatory to stay at the host hotel - many pool players can't afford it, and also I think most pool players are pretty independent-minded and don't like being told what they can and cannot do - if it's not mandatory, I think at least 3/4ths of the players will stay at the host hotel anyway, but they'll feel better about it if they weren't forced to stay there.......Just my opinion/input.

Hello Greg,

I read your post where you mentioned that you would be willing to move to another location (as a last resort).

If you would consider moving the event to Dallas/Fort Worth area as a last resort, I can assist you in checking around here.

A few facts with regards to DFW for you to consider. It is about 800 miles from Louisville (12 hours drive by truck with trailer). About 2 1/2 hours flight from the West Coast, 3 hour flight from East Coast, 2 hour flight from Florida. The closest Casino is about 1 hour away.

Just let me know the rough parameters of what you are looking for such as sizes, # of rooms, etc. And I can start assisting in checking around.

Regards,

Michael Hoang
Omega Billiards.

A central location like Dallas would be GREAT for all concerned. Mike is just the guy who could help pull it off too. Go for it!

Another suggestion for DCC

Greg, I'm in Louisville, actually in J-town near the Clarion where the Cue-lympics or whatever it's called was held. The Clarion is too small for DCC and the only food within walking distance is a Dairy Queen.

The Executive West continues to be a mess and it really can't hold the whole tournament anymore. The Fair/Expo center is in the exact same area and it's entrance is the ramp where EW is located. Not exactly in an entertaining part of town.

I would do the following:

Contact the Louisville Chamber of Commerce and let them help you accomodate the event. Once they understand it's scope, they may be willing to help. If we could get it in the Downtown convention center, we could possibly negotiate some good rates with several new Marriott properties that have been built in that area and they have on-site parking. Mayor Jerry would love to host an event in downtown.

This would be in a better part of downtown than the Galt House and safer. As a bonus, it would also be a short walk from 4th Street Live which is party-central for downtown Louisville. http://www.4thstlive.com/

Plan an event where 1 or 2 pool tables are set up in the middle of 4th Street Live for a Trick Shot show or final.

It's just my 2 cents but didn't know if you had looked at the DT convention center yet. It is large enough to host the entire event with room for growth. It might be more cost effective and it would be in a fun area of town.

THANKS pardner!!

And not to harp on the same subject but re: doing it at a casino...maybe such events with big time privatge gambling matches have been done often at casinos...I have no idea. If so...disregard the following:

But I would be surprised (yet again) if that would be allowed. The casinos sponsor such events in the hope that the players and fans will gamble WITH THEM and not amongst themselves. And it seems to me that such "private gambling" would clearly violate the local gaming laws.

You just cannot run private dice games in the lobbies or men's rooms of casinos!!!

Greg my old lady wants you to change the venue to Hawaii. Preferably the Big Island. She doesnt care what it costs. Some pool nut is footing the bill anyway.

I wouldn't pay $162 a night to stay in Louisville if that rate included a hooker and an open mini-bar.

Is that with top shelf liquor or plain label knockoffs?

Thanks for the update Greg. Suggest might be to have a Pool Player Discount Coupon Book, or Code for other Hotels, and motels close to the Locations, and maybe a Mini Map of Louisville with hot spots maked like mini Markets, Starbucks, [for JAM Gas Stations, Restaurants, etc. To make navagation around the venue site easier.

Evansville, IN

Hope Evansville has something good to offer Greg. It's has a storied history in regards to pool and would be a central location. Airport is only downside because of its size, I believe the room rate would be attractive. I've heard stories of the Jansco brothers, Cokes, and various others that where a part of the pool scene there years ago. Of course Nick Varner was there too and I understand Hubert was his stakehorse. Nick also had a room there at one time and there are alot of pool players in that area today. They have a riverboat casino located downtown also.

Got the proposals from the two sites. Seems like they are very proud of their remodeling!!! First off the Executive West will undergo a name change as well as a new room rate of $110. Even though there will be room for a few more tables it won't be enough for the 7ft growth I'd like to see or the 3 cushion growth I'd hoped for!.....

The Gualt House would have the space for growth. 60 7ft tables, 60 9fts as well as a few 3 cushion..Also plenty of vendors and very nice atmosphere, but it comes with negatives. The room rate as stated today would be $146 a nite and a $12 daily parking...Seems like everything is getting rediculous!!

This is their first proposal and we're going to try and get a better deal. I understand things go up. Really the Gualt House and upgrades to the Executive West may be worth it, but if you are staying more than 3 or 4 days it gets too expensive IMO! I hope they give us better rates especially if you're staying for more than 1 event! I'll keep you posted....Greg

Give the local Chamber of Commerce a called and expalin the situation. Also contact the economic dev. authority and let them be aware the DCC may have to held elsewhere. Don't make it a threat but in a way to ask for their help. Afterall there is quite a bit of money the city will lose if this venue can't be held in Louis'vll.

Many cities will compete for an event like this. Also keep in mind that things are slow for everyone in the winter months. How about contacting the casinos in Atl. City, NJ. Also the Cheseapeke Conv. Ctr. This would give them two great tournaments per year.

Thanks for all your hard work and keeping us posted Greg. This will be my first DCC and I'm excited to say the least. Going to be great times no matter where it's at
