Hey,

I am thinking of attending DCC for the first time next Jan.

I would appreciate any info or tips to make the most of the experience.

Some thoughts: best 3-4 days to be there, best place to stay, must see activities, food, etc...

All info is appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Russ......

Yeah, take a guide with you - me!!! :grin-square:

3-4 days is no good, but if that's all you can do, be there for the finals of the bank pool and the finals of the one-pocket. You have seen enough 9-Ball...

cool..... definately gonna start planning it out.

Anyone else wanna chime in????

I havent been able to swing going for the whole thing so I have to pick a few days. I have done the first few days and it was OK because of the ring games and the bank and 1P but I prefer the last 4-5 days. I am going up Wed morning and staying thru the end.

By Wed, the 1P is down to the final few players at that point and the 9 ball is in full swing. The action seems to pick up in the last few days as well. Guys have had time to feel out a game and their schedules lighten up because there is only one event going on (unless they are deep in the 1P). Money tends to loosen up the last weekend and people will take their shots or chase their losses.

IMO, the last few days are the way to go if you have to choose.

You will probably spend most/all of your time at the Horseshoe Casino complex. The hotel is about a quarter-mile walk (covered walkway) from the tournament area. The nearest other business is maybe five miles away, so if you want to stay somewhere else or look around the area, you will need a car. There are several motels recommended by Diamond in the New Albany area if the Horseshoe fills up.

The food at the casino is not bad, but it gets monotonous for a full stay. The breakfast buffet is about $9 and if you go at the right time you transition into the full lunch buffet with roast beef, etc. Even if the casino eateries are a little more expensive than the local average, they are convenient and eating there helps support the tournament since the casino is watching total revenue during the event.

For a 3-day visit, I'd do what others suggested and see the finals of the one pocket and the first rounds of nine ball. You will also get to see the finals of the 14.1 that way.

So, probably best to stay at the Hotel/Casino and skip the cost of the car!??!?

I was debating staying farther away and renting a car, but the Hotel/Casino would work also.

Stay at the hotel if at all possible.

I would come around Tuesday or Wednesday like Ktown said and stay as long as possible.

Bring a camera.

If you are just coming to watch bring your cues. You will want to play and there are tables available late night.

Don't drink the Cherry Shine.

A car gives you flexibility, but it looks like they run about $45/day from the airport and there's not much spare time between watching, eating, talking and sleeping. Last year Diamond was providing a shuttle service between the Horseshoe and SDF -- taxis are pretty expensive.

Been to everyone

I haven't missed a year. To be honest though, I really can't tell you what to expect seeing this is only the second time at the new venue. I'm sure improvements will be made and it will be better than last year. Oh...one piece of advise....STAY OUT OF THE CASINO FLOOR.

It looks as though you have already been given the same advice as I would give. I have been to DCC for 7 years (I think-lol) and always went the Wed. for the start of 9 ball except for 1 time. I can honestly say by far there is more action the last 4-5 days than there is in the first 3-4 days.

Ktown gave you a really good run down of of the tourney and the reasons why the second week is best. If you can only do 4-5 days I would fly in on Tues. or Wed and stay until it is over. Some of the best action matches happen on Sat/Sun while the 9 ball finals are being played. Hope to see you folks there this year IF I get to make it myself.

Gary

ps...I saw in another thread that Greg Sullivan is trying to get a room at the new venue to setup about 8 tables as the new action room....that would be great!!!

great info here guys!

This will be my first year also. I'm trying to take in all the info and make plans accordingly.

It will be weird going to an event like this alone....I hit the EXPO every year....it's only 20 minutes down the road....the thought of being incognito is kinda cool!...

see you all there...

Looks like I'll fly in late Tues and stay through Sun.

Staying at the hotel casino looks to be a good way to save the added expense of renting a car. I don't mind being tied to the venue for a few days.

Thanks for all the advice!!

Russ..

Also sign up for the AZ room when you get a chance. Not only a great deal for the table time but a great way to say hello to other AZer's and pros who drop in. Jay Halfert's One Pocket Challenge was held in there last year and watching Efren, Cory, Mika, John Schmidt all chew at it was extremely cool.

Watching Norway Roy going at the challenge was a little painful. Although I have to say I admired his courage. :D
