DCC noob questions

The sandwiches at the little shop right by tournament registration are likely to be half your meals. They're not bad. Coffee at the ice cream shop is cheaper than elsewhere. As mentioned above, the steak place is good for a nicer meal. The sports grill is just OK as is the buffet. There is nothing else for miles since the Horseshoe is very close to the center of nowhere.

There are some restaurants about 10 miles east in New Albany if you want a change of pace. Try The Exchange.

If you see someone at the arrivals at the airport with a pool cue, you can probably carpool over -- that worked for me one year. Keep an eye out.

In the past Diamond was running a shuttle to SDF on departure day. Has that gone away?

... The place is absolutely criminal when it comes to everything. The hotel is a con and the casino is worse. ...
I stay elsewhere, but then I need a car. I can eat where I like that way. If I were playing it would be tough with all the scheduling "issues" they have.

Most everything has been covered by others, but I'll add a couple of items.

The ice cream place outside of the tournament room is Graeter's and it's the bomb. It's not cheap, but it's pretty much in line with the prices for the Graeter's ice cream we have here in my hometown. I highly recommend the salted caramel chip.

If you can find a way to bring some water or snacks I highly recommend it.

Don't be ashamed to take the shuttle cart from the hotel to the tournament room. If you're playing especially it will save you time and some energy.

Bring some energy drinks because you'll want to see some of the night time action. The good stuff generally goes down in Big Truck's room on his stream. There is a room set aside at the top of the stairs for action, but it's not a great place to sweat a match because it's small.

The casino is located out in the sticks a moderate car ride from the nearest city of New Albany where there are other restaurants etc. There is a waffle house there and some other restaurants if you want to get out of the casino.

Catch up with candy man! Always good for some burban balls, chocolate covered oreos and chocolate candy! He is easy to find! Just ask around!

No need to rent a car. It would be a waste of money since you won't be going anywhere. I didn't get back in my car until I went home

Don't just sit at the Derby. Take a break and go into Louisville, at least for dinner. Try Proof on Main or some of the other nice restaurants. If they have it, try their grilled octopus in bagna cauda. Excellent dish. Then have a bourbon flight or two from the massive list. Then on the way back to the Horseshoe stop in at the Rustic Frog for dessert

Decent breakfast at the restaurant / coffee shop next to the front desk!

But, waffle house down the road can't be beat!!! 20 Minute ride door to door..

Internet is bad if I recall?

Cell phone spotty at best! May consider getting hotel wifi!

Please chime in on this topic?

Not sure if he will be providing shuttle service from the airport but he has for several years

Not an issue if you're not driving, but for anyone else who might be it's good to know there is a 4 dollar toll every time you cross the bridge from IN to KY and vice versa. They take a picture of your plate and mail you a bill.

I've booked my flights and hotel for DCC this year. I'll be there for a few days (staying at the horseshoe) and I've entered the 9-ball event.

What should I know, as a first-time visitor, spectator, and competitor?
Who else is going?
What's the best way to get from the airport to the casino? Is it worthwhile to rent a car?
Besides the obvious, what should I remember to bring?
If you like action as player, side bettor or just a sweater make sure and check out the PoolActionTV Aramith Action room, some really big name Action matches are being scheduled.

It's going to be 9 days of 24 hour non stop action.

Not if you take the Sherman Minton.

If you can get a good supply of water or other drinks and snacks you will save yourself time and money. Then just go to the couple good places on premises or hitch a ride out of town one night for dinner. I'll be there with a car and usually make a run or two down the road if you need anything.

Some years they have a coat check / cue check!

Nice to use and never had a problem! Leave the cue case and go eat and etc.

But, not available some times... ?
