DCC noob questions

Now that you bring it up, what exactly is a midnight mini? How do I participate if I decide I can muster the energy?
It sells out in 30 minutes!

Go to the window at 8 or 9am and sign up day before....

They add 1k and cheap entry fee!

I’m a dcc noob; I signed up; got rooms now what? I’m guessing a player check in? Lol does entry come with spectator passes for a spouse?

There will be a desk to the left of the outside of the tournament room. That is the desk where you can pay entries and buy backs and get your player id badge. The ID badge gets you in to the tournament room all week and I believe it comes with +1 pass also

Thanks so much for all the replies and tips, everyone.

One more question: I want a new jump cue, and my thought was I'd hold off and get one at the classic because I expect there will be an opportunity to try out a number of them? Is that true; are there tables in the vendor areas to test-hit a jump cue?

No tables in retail area!

Best to try and test out local players jump cues! Daniel Morror was selling a few jump cues! Shuff and Mike Davis swear by henshaw! I bought one!

I agree about trying before buying! Just not sure if they will allow testing it out on a low dollar ticket item.

Have fun and good luck! Since the US Open will be on my side of the country this year, I've decided to go. I think I'll actually play in it since I'll get two spectator passes with my entry. Looking forward to being part of the excitement and energy, as I'm sure you will, too, at the DCC!

Steve ..When did you move to AZ?

There are some tables in the retail area, although they are not there for public play. I test hit a Joss cue that I purchased there last year. I can think of at least three tables that are usually there for testing the vendors equipment.

Not sure how they would feel about testing a jump cue!

That is quite a lineup.

Mike...Jacoby Cues ALWAYS has a table in the vendor area. They have their own jump cue too, but I've seen lots of other cues tried out on Dave's table. He usually has Little Joe there too, teaching on that table. Last year Joe got into a car accident on the way to DCC, and missed it. I'm sure he'll be back next month...at least I sure hope so!

Hi Andrew! Guess those lessons long ago are still paying off for you. I wish you well in your quest to "go pro"! You, if anyone, are smart enough to know this is still a hobby...and your real job supports your pool playing! Go out there and knock em dead buddy! It will be good to see you again!

It's been a couple years Scott. Most of us (certain quoted miscreants notwithstanding) miss having him around.

Roberto is having Visa travel issues getting into this country and hopes to be able to make it back here in time to play in the Derby and the Big Foot Event.

Roberto Gomez is a great player and a really good guy one of the goods guys in pool.

Wow, great field. I don't recall ever seeing JL Chang at the Derby before, wonder if it's his first.

I was wondering the same thing. I've been attending since 2006 and I don't ever remember hin being there. I'm excited to see him play in person.

They set me on a good path, to be sure.

And yes, anyone who knows me well enough to care will know I was kidding about going pro.

I,ve eaten ther 10 times or so,and i,ve never had a "bad" meal. Its at least as good as any ruths chris' i have ever been to. Yes it is expensive, but you are at the DERBY CITY CLASSIC. It is the superbowl of pool,so go there KNOWING you are gonna spend some money, just like taking your kids to disneyworld or something, you just acknowledge its gonna cost!

I try to avoid eating food from the casino, going so far to do the whole cooler, crackers, cheese, fruits, etc thing.

Why? Because this casino/hotel doesn't give two wet, hot sh1ts about the players or the event. I reserved two rooms for the full 10 days so I can have my son and father with me.. I fly in at midnight, get my rental car, and get to the casino by 1AM on the 24th, the day of my check-in. The front desk says that "today doesn't start until 4AM, so it will be $119.00 per room if you want to check in before 4AM."

I was told this at approx. 1:20AM. So the Horseshoe, for a customer laying out 3 grand in room costs alone, was perfectly willing to screw over that customer to make an extra $250.00. And otherwise, the room stays empty.

So, we dragged our ****ton of baggage down to the valet storage, drove 30 minutes to WalMart, and stocked up on food. I will do everything in my power not to consume a single ounce of food or liquid from this total sh1thole of a venue.

I truly, deeply wish that the Horeseshoe had been completely destroyed in the flood so that Diamond could have been released out of the contract so they could find another venue that appreciated the business. Literally any other appropriate-sized venue would be better than this place.

I fly in at midnight, get my rental car, and get to the casino by 1AM on the 24th, the day of my check-in.

So you expected them to let you into the room at 1AM on the 24th when you didn't the rooms reserved for the night of the 23rd? You asked them to give you an extra night for free, and you hold a grudge that they didn't?
