Dcc Update

Onward to new traditions and new history!

I have doubts...mostly about whether the pool action can fade the casino heat, but I like our chances! GO DIAMOND BILLIARDS!

The new venue won't keep me away.. It's still about the same drive for me!! Looking forward to better food, hopefully!!

I think DCC is, and always has been, a unique event in pool. It will definitely feel different to be in another venue besides the Executive West, but it has outgrown the present location.

In some ways I think this is a move for the better. Caesars is a newer hotel with better facilities. I think we may see more of an emphasis on the tournament end of things and the various events (Straight Pool and One Pocket Challenges) that go with it.

The casino will have its allure to some people and some of us are immune to it. I can spend a week in a casino and not bet a dime. There is no attraction to me to play a game where I am the big dog! I will visit the card room without doubt. But that is more like gambling in a pool room, where you pay table time, and gamble with other players.

If the room rates are attractive, and the food is good (and inexpensive) it just may work out quite well. I suspect that there will still be MANY money games! The new breed of young players are hep to the bad casino action, and will prefer to match up on the pool tables. Which is, after all, why they come to DCC.

This whole casino thing sweeping the nation is beginning to wear thin anyway. Revenues are down the past year and for good reason. The economy is tough. Many casinos have closed! So they need to bring events like this in to get bodies in there.

Like Freddie, I will remain supportive of Greg. The guy has worked hard to make this event continue.

When I started playing pool about 23 years ago there were waiting lists 7 days a week at pool rooms. I havent seen a waiting list, even on a weekend, in years. I think pool is just down. I think having the event at a casino will get more people there. So Im all about the casino. I just wish the voters would allow them in Ohio.

Sounds good Greg.

I've posted many mails supporting you and your team for the DCC and will continue to do so.

We all have faith in you. Thank You for all your hard work on this. We realise that you are doing this for US, not yourself.

Big Pat on yo back buddy.

People forget when the Janscos started their tournament at the Stardust from Johnson City. Man it was some of the best times I ever had and dont remember a tournament with a lot of action and glamour together since. Vegas was wide open then and everyone did what they wanted. I think that is the year Larry Liscotti was broke, bet Diliberto and Incardone that he would jump into the pool with all his clothes on and did. When Larry came out Danny said Larry we'd give you the money anyway. There was so much money passing hands it made a kid like me in the 70's have a headache. I couldnt sleep for days after that.

The Executive West was $90/night...hardly what I'd call cheap! Cheap is $30/night at Circus Circus, in Vegas. If Caesar's matches the Ex. West rate, it will be fine. If it's much lower (which I doubt), that would be great!

You're just not going to the right pool rooms. There are waiting lists at pool rooms all over the country...albeit mostly in major metro areas. I've been in a dozen rooms just this past 12 months where there was a waiting list.

I think you missed the point by a mile or two.

He was pointing out that biz in pool rooms is down... wayyyy down.
Surely you don't dispute that, do you?

I think this is wonderful news. Keeps the tradition of the DCC being held close enough to Louisville & yes, it is right across the bridge into Indiana. The food will be better, the reservations will be more secure and nothing is better than a free hotel room. I love it.

Plus, in my mind, the action at the last year DCC was pretty small compared to previous years. Maybe some player will hit it big in the casino and once again you can see the $40K set ala Tony Watson from the glory years. Last year, it took 2 hours of huddling and maybe you got to finally see a $2000 set. Plus most of the action was by under 21 year olds so they wont be in the casino anyways.

its very close to louisville...only minutes really
MP, How long does it take to drive from the Louisville airport to Elizabeth, IN, where Caesar's is located? As another poster mentioned, I don't see any bridges across the river south of Louisville. So I guess the route would be up to the I-64, then drive the 111 down the west side of the river to the 211.

Hi Doc
It looks like it's about half an hour from the airport to the casino. Here's a link http://www.mapquest.com/maps/600+Te...99+Avenue+of+the+Emperors+Elizabeth+IN+47117/

How's things in Gulfport ? I love it down there. I visit 2-3 times a year and will be there the end of June for a few days.

Regards, Roger

I went on the Cesars web-site last night for January 09, rooms look like 150.00/night if I am reading it right.

great news

Greg,
I think this is what you needed to do for years. The Executive West is a terrible hotel. Parking is terrible and there isn't anyplace to eat. In the past 2 years the amature events have been elsewhere reducing the foot traffic. Ceasers is clean and close to Louisville and it is on the "right" side of the bridge. You will now be able to bring more people to pool with the exposure that you didn't have in Louisville. Good luck in closing the deal.

Hey Roger, thanks for the assessment. It also looked to me like a 1/2 hr.+ drive to the casino from Louisville airport. If there's no shuttle, then guys will have to rent a car. Their site mentions a shuttle from Indianapolis, but not from KY.

There is building everywhere in Gulfport. The city will look as never before. The fascist city council insituted a smoking ban except in bars and casinos, so the bar side of Skeeter's has been empty (everyone drinks in Biloxi or Long Beach). The equipment is playing good though, so if you're in town stop by. I'm usually there Tues. and Sat. or Sun. afternoons. My office number is 228-896-6616.

Thanks again~ Doc

I'm not familiar with the new proposed venue but if they have more room and better food, then I welcome the change. As soon as the dates are fixed, I'm booking my flight. Which airport is closest to the casino?
