Here are pics of Dean's cue. Believe me, it is real and hits pretty sporty. I have forgone my Black Boar, Scruggs, Mike Webb, Black Creek and James White to play with this cue exclusively. Looks may be deceiving but this cue plays well for me. People that I have let try this cue compliment me on the hit.

Bump for the pics. Interesting.... looks as if it started life as an old wall hanger, so the wood should be pretty stable. Is it drilled out for weights in the butt, or is the butt solid under the bumper???

As you can see the tung oil finish is not bright and shiny, but I chose this finish because a glossy finish does not absorb moisture, and my hand gets clammy. You may not be aware that this is the reason Irish linen was first used and is by far the most popular wrap for players.

Hoppe ring

all will have a hoppe ring, but the ring will be lower on the cues for the most part.Still batting1000,every buyer is happy with the cue so far.

Do you all think that the carom cue joint - that is with the pin in the shaft will ever truly catch on in the USA?

I ask because I just tried out an experimental cue last week that has a G-10 pin in the shaft just like this one and it hit great. It was coincidentally quite similar to this one in that it was a cross between a pool and carom taper.

I am just thinking that this is what carom players have known forever as just about every carom player of consequence that I know plays with a cue that has the pin in the shaft - with most of the pins being threaded from the same piece of wood (not inserted).

I wonder if the next few years will see pool cues going to a hybrid of carom and pool tapers?

I wouldnt think so. I mean the concept of "custom cues" hasnt even caught on with your average player yet. Nearly every pool hall I go to has a ton of meucci, viking, falcon etc.

Seems like it would be hard to then target just the players that use custom cues that are generally good players to then change their cue they're used to another cue with different specs. Some will do it.. especially people on this forum but I dont know if it'll catch on in general.

JUST to set the record straight about the comments that Glenn made about setting aside his cues made by some of the greatest cue makers in the world
He set them aside in order to give my cue a fair test, his comments were not intended in any way to criticize those cue makers.
I consider Scruggs cues to be especially great,in fact I sent my own prototype to him for his private advice. He has been my idol in the business for years, and I have 4 on order now.
As for Black Boar,I tried to trade him my $15,000Triumph Motorcycle for 1 of his cues.I never held one,but on the advice of Tim Scruggs I was told that Black Boars are in a class of their own.
I am intending to make a high end custom cue with its own distinctive hit,and if I come anywhere near these two greats it will be a miracle.

Do Wood Pin cues have a nice hit?

I think they do.:D :D :D One manufacturer of wood pin cues puts a black ring on the shaft for pool taper and a white ring for carom tapers. I think but am not sure it is the same company that makes Helmstetter. These are Karella cues from Competition Sports, except for the one with no wrap on the end. It is a carom taper cue I use for breaking (since I hardly ever play carom games). All were bought very reasonably on Ebay. The plainer cues do show some sugar in the shafts. The fanciest one has the nicest shaft. Once I tried one, I went for a lifetime supply, LOL. I paid $40 for the cheapest and $99 for the most expensive, if I remember correctly. The model numbers are KF-1, 2 and 3, 3 being the highest grade.
