most of you are familiar with my deano cues,i am through with making or selling them now.
I described it as a cue that hit good, and played great. It improved my game a bunch
What I never said was that when I picked it up to hit the ball,my stroke got on autopilot,it just started stroking better.I realize this sounds hokey and I don't know if anybody else experienced this or not.
The purpose of this thread is to state this fact and sincerely ask if anyone else has experienced a similar experience, not just with deano but with any cue.The minute Ipick it up I feel like a i have a nice rhythmic stroke and all of a sudden I can draw better, much better and move whitey further

off the deep end

i had one of the cues you offered with the thicker taper. i didn't have the same experience you had

Had a cue from Mason Houghland that was like that, a sneaky from Joey Bautista, and my current sugartree player. They all share a few common characteristcs, each had a stiff shaft taper, balanced over 19" from the butt, and weighed about the same, 3/8x10 pins, and hard tips.

My three favorite cues that I've owned.

i am not talking about the stiffness or specs here,my question is Why did my arm stroke better before i hit the ball?

I'm just saying those three cues were like a extenstion to my arm from the time I picked them up. I put the specs because I realized they were all similiar to each other.

I'd guess you stroked better because the cue felt right to you for whatever reason. My guess would be that reason has to do with the specs of the cue.

Hi deanoc,

i used to say this often...it s the *all in one package* in a cue. u take it- stroke and u ll have immediatley the feeling. I m not a cuemaker, but played with many, many cues now. And if u take a cue, and u immediatly feel great with it, never give it away again :)
in my opinion that s the key from the greatest cuemakers: they re able to make a reproducable work. 2 weeks ago played with 2 cues from a well-knows (and expensive) cuemaker- the first was a very simple 4 pointer with eboney forearm- was a hell of a cue. After that played with a 4.000 Dollar cue from the same cuemaker.........totally different (in my eyes totally crap). this shouldn t happen usualy imo.
so again^^- if u have a cue in your hand which feels like a thing that s just feel fine and great- keep it for a lifetime:)

and if i don t likea cue (feelin strange or so) i don t mind about it- i just put it back into the corner^^

could also be a mental thing brother, if you knew you had a pretty good product, and were happy with it, and thought well about your cues. Then maybe the appreciation and confidence over your cues jumped into your game.

Let me ask you this, have you ever been playing good and had to use some POS cue and just were not confident in the stick, and you went from great to suck a**? It's kinda like that only backasswards.

To me the first models you offered had a taper that was way too thick for me. i got a chance to try one of the second models you offered with the softer taper and i really liked that one.

cancel my thread,i sent my deano to a friend to look at to see what i like to play with,he cleaned my shaft and fixed some nicks that had occured, cleaned my shaft and made it look new,my shaft was smooth as glass.
I went to the pool room to try it out,and all of a sudden the magic was gone.My cue no longer put me in stroke,i lost my feel.Go figure. It worked while it worked, but when I used another one for a coupe of weeks..the thrill is gone.

Some days pool can be difficult to understand?

last time that happened to me someone said they'd clean the shafts and ended up sanding down the shaft so much it played crazy whippy after that.

What an understatement lol...how deep and thoughtful of you partner.

I have a Deano cue, thank you Dean.

I'm going to be honest here as Dean would expect. It is very well built and straight. Looks like a sneeky pete(something I like alot) I keep it down in my pool room with a couple other cues in a chest that only my real good friends know about, I have the decoy junk cues in plain site.

I have let alot of people use it and other cues, about 3/4 people like the Deano cue, the people who do really like it. The people who dont like it dont like it. I'm in the 1/4 that dosent like it(dont get mad Dean) for pool, the taper is too short for my stroke. I havent played 3C with it, when I do I'm positive I will love it.

thats the honest truth, Dean is a great guy, 10000% honest and reliable, and I'm proud to call him a friend.

best

I have a Deano. It didn't improve my game. Mine is one of the first from the first batch. It is a solid hitting cue. Full splice with uneven points and visible glue lines. Oil finish, no wrap, phenolic joint with a wooden billiard style pin. Has a Hoppe ring on the butt. Tried to take a picture to post but it broke the camera. I think that is why you will never see any pictures of the first batch posted. :rotflmao:

The deano cues were fun while they lasted,I made a lot of friends through them. I played mine for almost 2 years,no one ever said anytjing but good about it,it was lighning in a jar for me,it lengthened my stroke and enabled me to make shots i never made, then i sent it to a friend and while it was gone i got used to another stick John Nemic made me,when the DEANO got back it wasn't the same.Who knows maybe next week I will find the magic,

Of course we all know that its fun to try new cues,I always liked fancy cues,Scott Gracio has made me a Box cue and that PARADISE TRIBUTE,Now that is a looker I hope I can play with that because it is so pretty.

I appreciate all of you guys who bought the cue and gave it a try,its fun hearing from those who really like it.

Feel free to post what you like if you have any stories good or bad.I am having two prather blanks, ebony front with tons of inlays,if anybody wants something unusual I will sell one.

Tommy and Erik, thanks for the words and pics,I am glad I got to know you through these little cues and the Szamboti,Tommy you should keep making cases ,that Elephant case you made is about as good as it gets.

love the wooden thread in shaft....

what do you guys have to say about the wooden pin in the shaft??
How is the hit compared to other cues with similar tapers?

I ask this because I always thought that a wooden pinned cue would have better transfer of energy through the cue as the wave would be going through the same type of material.

And what does it sound like?

A used Deano was the first cue I bought when I got to AZ.
It was one of the clear coated Deanos. One point was off but so slightly, it hardly made a difference. Deano and I had just the opposite experiences.
When I first got it, I couldn't pocket a ball if my life depended on it.
I should have given it more time but I didn't and it was excommunicated to the closet of bad cues up until a couple of weeks ago.
I took it down to a bar I go to once in awhile for sunday tourney or just to get away and bang a few balls. I took Deano out mainly because this bar has crappity bar wood and Deano had sold the last one a couple of weeks ago and started me thinking about it again.
It was totally the opposite, I started off slow and then all of a sudden I started firing balls in left and right, hard rail shots, cross banks to the middle and side. It was like, "OK, who are you and what did you do with my Deano". Absolutely no deflection at all.

The shaft is a European or conical taper and not one that I'd normally pick for myself, but with this one, it just flows thru my fingers and doesn't feel like I have a big telephone pole in my bridge hand.
I like the big pin. The conical taper and pin is what does it justice.
It has a nice stiff feel to it, medium to medium hard. Nice transfer of energy, you can feel it compared to some of my other cues.
What does it sound like, it has a nice crack to it, not overly loud, just a very pleasant sound and tone. It might sound stupid, but when you hear a certain tone, you know you've hit the ball with the right amount of weight and its going exactly where you intended it to go. When Deano sold his last one, I was going to put this one up as well. Glad I didn't.
Sometimes I just leave my case and cues at home and pack the Deano in an aluminum hard case with a piece of sandpaper. It breaks very good to.
No longer for sale, its a keeper!
