Deleting threads

I used to post my opinions on issues that would arise but stopped when I realized that no matter what, you can't win on this forum. There are a handful of regular posters that will dissect every word and spin it to be something that it's not. I routinely tell Mark that when it comes to opinion on these forums, there is a lot to lose and almost nothing to gain. He disagrees and continues but I have stopped. Perhaps one day those inside the industry will feel comfortable enough sharing their thoughts and opinions on this forum. However, as long as the "keyboard attacks" continue, it will not happen.

The "keyboard attacks" will continue until morale improves. :D

Sorry, I know your post is a valuable post and I am only making light of the people on this forum who get their jollies digging into forum posters, industry people, professional pool players, and anyone else of their choice that they think they can get a rise out of, just to make themselves feel better about their own lives (narcissistically speaking) or under the poorly veiled guise of pretending to have a sense of "humor" & "levity".

As others have mentioned, the anonymity factor plays a big part in some posters saying things that they might not say if their names, addresses, phone numbers and place or work were known.

I can't blame you or any other industry people from not taking part in this forum, until the management decides to MUZZLE the instigators completely.

Is it okay if I agree with you?

...With black and white everyone knows where they stand. You can say this, you can't say that. When you get into shades of gray nobody knows where they stand. One thing I was proud of, on my political forum we could discuss politics, religion, race, any hot button topic...

...Had I allowed shades of gray, moderating that forum would have been impossible. It makes a moderator's job many times harder on any forum.
AZB has that problem now, that one person can get banned forever for saying what another said without even a slap on the wrist. The same poster can say something one time with no punishment and get a ban another time. That is the way it is when everything is a judgment call... <--Truer words were never spoken !
Hu

Hu; You are possibly making WAY too much sense, for the average AZ moderator to tolerate !..(I certainly hope saying that, does not get me the boot..again)...I was a first responder, to a thread that 'Basement Dweller' started, during which he outlined many of the same things you pointed out, in an even more moderate tone. I believe the title of his thread was...
.... "Hurry up and respond, before this thread is DELETED"

I carefully edited out any reference, to overly sensitive moderators, and zeroed in something that caught my eye...........

...Some people on here are crazy. I mean that seriously. You know who you are or at least you know who you aren't. Also, some people on here take this place way too seriously.

Mr Dweller; I agree with everything you said, except for the above statement !..The majority of the crazy trolling doorknobs on this forum, do NOT realize they are 'crazy' !...I offer 'perfect example' number one..

I was also careful not to name any names, so I just intimated that my #1 troll example, was a former night club owner, and former ESPN champion, now living in Dallas, TX !...Anyhow, I hit the submit button, and lo and behold, in less than 15 mins....BD's post had been 'deleted' ! (possibly by an over-zealous moderator :o)

SJD

PS..Apparently, Basement Dweller's post, was not 'gray' enough ! ;)

SJD,

I have no quarrel with you or anybody on here, but it seems you have way too much time on your hands or either you have a CJ fetish of some sort.

Why can't you start a "productive" thread instead of chasing CJ around and trying to pick apart his posts?

If you are such a world champion, as you seem to believe, why don't you contribute something to teach someone instead of constantly attacking people?

I honestly am not in AWE of ANY player! I don't care if they ran two balls or 999, they still are just pool players. There are things that can be learned from people even if they never won a Cracker Jack prize and I listen to what they have to say. If I disagree or don't believe it, I ignore it and keep on trucking instead of following their every post and trying to antagonize them...even if it is done with a hint of "silliness" to try to keep it within the guidelines of the board.

It reminds me of yesterday, when I was playing with my normal sparring partner and there happened to be a pool magazine of some sort laying on the little stand next to the pool table. He started reading an article about fractional hits and it was written by Dr. Dave. When I pointed out that I TRIED to explain the EXACT same thing a while back, all he wanted to do was disagree and say it didn't work. However, when he read it and saw DR. DAVE's name attached to it, it all of a sudden became TRUE. It isn't WHO provides the message...it is "IS THE INFORMATION CORRECT?". Some people will disagree with CJ or anybody else's message, but I take it in and try it to see if it works for ME. If it doesn't, then so be it...maybe it works for somebody else.

And while everybody is piling on CJ's ads, I've noticed that Cleary's ad in his footer is JUST AS BIG.

SJD is trash. He needs a life

He's also pissed that he's a no name that could never back it and win a tourney or event of any consequence

And how often do I create threads pumping it? How often do I take over threads trying to peddle my goods? hmmm...

I contribute in various ways to azbilliards and it's rare I say anything that's me trying to sell you something. I don't think CJ can say the same.

Cleary,

Nothing against you either, but you too have a tendency to "pile on" in a lot of instances. And as much as I think your graphic work is very good, I think displaying that BIG AZZ ad on each of your posts is just as much "pumping" as anybody else who does it.

Aloha.

There should be a timeout section where no one else can enter. Let those who are in timeout chat amongst themselves. Mods can keep an eye on it and until they learn to play well with others they stay in timeout. Whats the sense of banning for a month if they aren't going to change. They will just figure out how far they can push the limit. Give them their own section and until they can have 100 positive posts they stay in timeout. It would be nice if everyone else could see a post counter on them. See them get to 10 and back to 0. maybe 50 and back to 0.

It's understandable. You wouldn't want to get into political debates, for example, because all you're going to do is piss off half the people and not get any real benefit from it.

But your post made me think about this. I’ve been using internet forums of various kinds since about a decade before the web was in popular use (since about 1985), and here's what I've learned about internet forum arguments:

1. There are definitely trolls and people who get off on attacking people. But I think this is a very small minority of problems. And of course it’s easy to deal with a true troll - ignore them and don’t respond.

2. There are some people who think that anyone who simply has a different opinion is a troll. I think this is the far more common situation. People have different opinions, and can even disagree about facts(!), and that drives some people crazy. Maybe they’re just not used to being openly challenged or disagreed with in the real world, or maybe the missing body language and facial expressions make it seem harsher, I don’t know.

By the way, I think Mark’s posts here are interesting and it doesn't seem to me that he gets involved in stupid arguments, and some others in the industry like the OB people do an excellent job here too. You can just tell it drives Mark crazy that he can’t correct everyone’s faulty opinions. :D

You never know, they might end up being the next "CJ Van Lassiter".

Okay, it's acceptable for you to do a 180 in your opinion of me. I guess it's prudent to gather some facts, ones that aren't just opinion, All Humans have opinions, the problem is they are seldom true, actually they can't be, they're just perceptions of reality, and tainted.

I went back and counted threads and my participation. Last year I posted in less than 1% of the total threads, and averaged posting in only 2 (threads) a day. It would be amazing if that led to me "ruining azbilliards" like you indicated in your initial post, especially when more than 99% of the threads didn't have my involvement.

So the "doers" (I presume you) get tired of listening to the same stuff all the time?

I want you to read what you wrote three times slowly. Does it still make sense? Can you show one example of me saying "the same stuff all the time".......same stuff all the time, same stuff all the time.....wow, I actually couldn't do that if my life depended on it. ;)

Can you show me an example of me not taking responsibility for what I post? You said I do it "all the time," so you can surely show me an example or two.

I believe it's clear that you are at best exaggerating, at worse, Mark, you're not telling the truth. What is your "hidden agenda," could it be the same as the BCA President in 1996 that lied and made false accusations against me? Is this just a reenactment?

Let me just ask you one favor. You said some evil, and callous things in your public posts about me - if I had feelings you might have damaged one them.

You made reference to me being a 5th grader (which may be an exaggeration, I'm at least 7th) - this got me thinking about when I was 11 years old and the passion I had for pool.

If someone like yourself would have got up in front of the class and wrote all these accusations on the board it would have been devastating to a small child's mind. It may have kept me from ever playing pool again if subjected to that kind of negativity. Would you enjoy knowing that you had stopped me from ever playing pool? Really Mark, is this something you would have been proud of?

I got my start in pool by making a deal with my mother. I told her that if she gave me the $2 instead of the lady watching me, I'd go to the pool room and play this game called pool. I was 7 years old at the time, who could have guessed what the future would hold for me and this special game called pool? Would you, Mark, have guessed?

No, the answer is no one knew what the future had in store, and this remains true to this day. To try to take the position that you know my future now would be equally ludicrous. You can insult me, and say mean things, just please don't say those type things to 11 year old children. You never know, they might end up being the next "CJ Van Lassiter". :groucho:

Yes CJ, I did write that letter.
That 2 years ago - things have changed.

When u came on the AZ scene I held out hopes you could/would become a mentor to the players, a sound of reason for promotion, and share reasonable visions for improving the game.

You have the knowledge, you have the history, and I think you have the ability.

But you - for what ever reason decided to do something different. More power to you- but you shouldn't be suprised that some of the 'do'ers' get tired of listening to the same stuff all the time.

Bottom line is everyone must accept responsibility for what they post. The good and the bad.

Mark Griffin

He grew up in nine miles from Milan in an off-the-map place called Green City, a corn-and-cattle community some 150 miles from Kansas City and out in the middle of nowhere. The thrill capital of the world it was not. Green City is smaller than even your typical small town: 629 people back then according to Wiley, no stoplights, and no movie theaters.

"A big night there was drinking beer and driving around the town square," he says with a sardonic laugh. "But even to do that , you had to be old enough to drink."

Wiley, though, found a way to amuse himself early. At 7 years old, cutting an especially shrewd and novel idea with his mother, he convinced her to let him play pool on Saturdays with the $2 she'd pay for his baby-sitter.

"I was a little leery at first," his mother says, "I didn't like the image of the poolroom for a small child. But after I looked it over, it didn't seem so bad, and besides, the owner promised me he''d keep an eye on him."

Barely tall enough to reach the table, Wiley played at the only poolroom in town, a three-table place called Cleeton's, owned by family friend Orrin Cleeton. The joint had three old Brunswicks and a dusty backroom where the old men played gin rummy.

At first, he played only rotation and 8-ball.

"By the time I was 11, I was already the best player in town," he says. "It got so nobody would even play me."

The kid was a natural. At age 11 years-old, still completely self taught, he ran two straight racks of 8-ball form the break: at 13, he ran a rack of rotation; at 15, he discovered 9-ball and started running racks at an alarming rate.

Lack of morale is palpable in these parts. Despondency seeps through every pore. This place NEEDS major punch ups every so often, or petty squabbles fester and become corrosive running sores.

There needs to be a woofing forum, well away from the main forum, and evenly moderated. And John Vs Lou Two will help with morale.

H.E., I have created many "productive" threads on this forum..They can just be very hard to notice, when someone buries them under an avalanche of self serving promo's, logo's, and tons of un-poolrelated, inane chatter (think martial arts, yoga, etc.)

Funny you observed that many other people were "piling on" CJ...Did you single me out, because I brag so much ? (NOT)...
I simply enjoy getting on someone's case, who seems to thrive on it !..In case you haven't noticed, that's the same reason I often rattle JoeyA, and John Barton's cage...They also seem to enjoy it ! ;) (see post #120, it is eerily similar to yours)

No hard feelings, I hope, but you sound like one of the people 'basement dweller' was referring too...You may have a 'fetish', for taking things Way too serious ! :sorry:

SJD

LATE EDIT; I see CJ is not doing much for your argument..Did you catch his monster, rambling response to Mark ? (post 131). He even finds time to say he posts 'very little' (I'm starting to fear for his mental well being)

hmmmm, I call BS.

You have over 9,000 posts in four and a half years. That would be at least five posts a day, average, and *a lot* of posts on many days. And in fact there were days here when there were several “CJ threads” going that you tirelessly pumped to keep on the front page.

And of course you say the say ol’ same ol’ over and over, with the “real eyes” bologna as just one example. And since you asked, you don’t take responsibility for what you post, preferring to go passive/aggressive with gifs.

What your fantasy of being 11 years old has to do with anything, I have no clue, other than that being a logical explanation for the nature of many of your posts.

SJD

I think I may be just the opposite. I think pool is a GAME...not a job. If you can do it well enough to make money then all the better for you. People take the GAME way TOO SERIOUSLY...especially the ones who usually play at lower levels. I'm not insinuating that you played at a lower level, but EVERYBODY plays at a lower level than SOMEBODY else.

It isn't that I care what anybody puts on here, but to attack people over and over doesn't sit well for me. I'd speak up even in a pool hall if people were constantly badgering somebody...no matter how well they played or how well the person being antagonized played.

FWIW...My name is Nobody. I played other "nobodies" and "anybodies" who wanted to play. Sometimes I won, sometimes I lost...but I have a winning record.

Cleary,

You contributed a lot before you ever put an ad in your signature as did some of the others that advertise here. While I think all the big sig's should be outlawed members that take up advertising are I think generally viewed differently than people who are here primarily to advertise. Pretty sure that when CJ isn't promoting something we won't be seeing much of him.

I don't have a thing against CJ as a person. As a player I think he could be one of the most valuable contributers here. As a hustler on a pool forum he has a lot to learn and his relentless advertising is annoying. His original claim why touch of inside was better than center ball was so silly that I have to admit that I never looked at TOI seriously. Nothing special about that, I ignore most miracle techniques that are going to make me a better player. Those I have tried haven't impressed.
