delrin question

Well it seems you answered your own question. Veryone has there own way. For me that's too big. I dont want to remove any if my 3/4 in tenon. I'd rather put 5/8 inside of that tenon. I think its stronger. For me that is.

You have a very bad habit of jumping down pols throat. Truth is I'd rather not have your help if thats your reaction

Wow Big boy! I asked a question if this was an opinion or if it is a fact. You stated it as a fact but now you explain that it was an opinion. If you would check most every post you have ever made, you have stated your opinions as facts. There is a very big difference. Now if you think that me asking a question is jumping down someones throat then "You ain't seen nothin yet". Secondly, I'll respond to any thread on this forum. Sounds like your trying to step into Eddies shoes trying to tell who can or can't respond to different threads.

I, myself, like for people to question why I do something a certain way. Maybe they have a better way of doing it. I do know that every time someone says this way or that way is better I try it their way to ascertain for myself.

As they said in 'Fiddler on the Roof'' - Tradition...

Balabushka used 5/8 tho not exactly a tenon
Szambodi used 5/8 tenon, as did Bill Stroud, Tim Scruggs
and a host of others.

I was so hot damned impressed I just fell in line and use 5/8 also.

Tnx Dale.
Didn't they use the weight bolt to lock down on the delrin buttplate?

does that make your cues play better?
I think Paul meant he used taps and live tooling.
Wood from the outside needs one thing to thread nicely if you are not using knife style threader , speed.

100,000% wrong. I never said my statements were fact. I'm jumping in eddies shoes. LOL. I dont have time to argue bc I'm too busy clearing out my pm box thats littered with messages saying how big of a ***** you are. You're right you can post on any thread you want. I guess thats what ignore is for. Maybe I'll use it for the first time. As much as you help you hurt more by talking down to ppl. I dont know who you think you are. I dont respect you nor listen to anything you say. You sir are a waste of space on this thread

No mason it has nothing to do with playability, just strength. The 3/4 tenon is just stronger than the 5/8 and the delrin is still great protection.

Yes, I cut all my male and some of my female threads in wood with a router including cleaning exisitng threads during ferrule replacement. It's much cleaner and easier on the wood. I use regular taps on my ferrules and butt caps.

i use a handheld die or whatever for the tenons.i drilled and tapped it 3/8-10 to experiment with some bigger tenons.

it does tend to rip a little, but really all you need is a couple of threads to hold.i have to tuen the tenon down to .355-.360" or it will rip.

thought about live tooling for them, but everytime i think about it,i say "why bother".i can see it for bigger parts though.

i have never fooled with delrin on a cue and probably never will.i wonder how i got into this thread in the first place.

Bushka threaded the 'tang' and the Delrin and used no weight bolt.

But you are right - everyone else and his dog used a bolt to help
hold the Delrin on.

Thanks.
I like Bushka more now.

I have a cue I'm working on now. But weight is
15.7 oz with a 1 in aluminum just to hold the delrin in. It would be perfect without that bolt at 15.5 oz.

IF you threaded the inside of the delrin and kept the wood tenon, you'd be there.:)

After you thread it on why not stake it or drill a small hole along the threads to insert a round dowel or plug to work as a shim or lock, then face it off insert the rubber bumper.

No need. The vertical glue channel will be filled up with epoxy.
Epoxy is harder than wood.

I use a glue channel also. I thought it would look classy with the extra work like the old funiture craftsmen days of wood working.

What is the od if the tenon and id of the delrin?
tpi?
never threaded. I just cue grooves 3 or 4 on the tenon. I've even cut horizontal grooves in the delrin with a handsaw. Good results but I just want to thread it on

THe important part is cutting the groove in the delrin. If you cut it deep enough, any 5 minute epoxy will hold it.
