Derby city action

I agree. The last few years the internet has been quiet, but when I arrive at the Derby and it action as usual.

Well, you can be sure if I was on site, I'd be giving action updates several times a day. Not sure why other AzB-ers don't take the time to do this as often as in the past, but maybe they're too busy keeping up with the DCC festivities. Not sure.

I think that's part of it. There is so much going on that I didn't really take more than a couple of minutes a day to get my phone out and get online. This is especially true now that there are more extra events going on during the day besides the banks. Also the action room here doesn't have all that much room for sweaters.

saturday night ryan stone played richie richeson even 1p 5 ahead for 3-5k richie beat him in about an hour... billy thorpe played jeremy jones even banks for 1000 a game and billy won 2 games in a matter of minutes and jeremy pulled up.

The Action room has a 10' table, that is hindering a bit of it.

The action room has no 10' table in it. The 10' table is on its own (Bigtruck is streaming g) and it has action on it, but the action room is the same as last year: six 9' tables and one bar box.

Is there a reason no ones posting any action updates ?

It's not so easy to report since most have rooms that is quarter mile walk to get to a laptop. And hauling around a laptop is no easy task. I suppose if someone has a tablet, it might be easier.

Posting on this iPhone only sucks a little, but when the beers start flowing when the action is really happening, it becomes a "Damn You AutoCorrect" laugh-olympics.

A set for 20 dimes was played, 5 ahead one-pocket. They ended up playing a long while, so all parties decided they would pro-rate it. Somebody was up 2 games, and so they got paid off 8 crackers. Don't know what happened after that. Oh, Hot Lanta! :grin-square:

There's other small action, a couple sets for 4 sand bags.:)

Cliff Joyner played for a few dimes, 10 ahead on a bar table. He got shot down.

I hate reading about the action since I feel bad enough about not being able to go. I'm going to have to plan ahead and maybe go next year for sure.

Can anyone give a reason why Diamond is pushing 10' tables *<SNIP>* you wouldn't think an extra foot would make much difference, but it does.

That little edit basically has you asking and answering the question.

10' tables

I think the reason diamond made the 10' tables is because a lot of pros wanted to play on them. Earl is very vocal about how it separates the difference in the level of play and while I don't necessarily agree with him very often he is right in this case. A lot of the top players wanted to play on tougher tables that were really challenging. 10' tables were quite common many years ago. We requested it and diamond listened. I hope they become more popular.

Some guy is playing Jayson Shaw on BigTruck's stream right now. Shaw is giving the guy the 6 out, the break and bih after the break, and this dude has 0 chance. I don't know what they are playing for or what the race is, but it really doesn't matter.

10' tables about challenging the best

I think this is the main reason. Diamond tables are huge supporters of the professionals. And they realize that many amateurs are running out consistently on 9' tables. And pro's have figured out the break and are running out on 9' tables with almost 5" pockets at will, making it boring. They need more challenge and the viewer should know that the pro's are playing on equipment that they don't normally run out on.

I think Mark Wilson mentioned that RESPECT was going to be one of the focus for 2014. Respect is a two way street. This falls in line with us respecting the Pro's talent, but they will have to earn it. The additional foot could separate the pretenders from the contenders.

Maybe he has zero chance, but he's challenging himself and seeing where his game is. There is nothing more frustrating for me to here than a player saying, "Well, I'm just not shooting well. I'll try to practice up a little more before I try. I have zero chance to win this thing." This is the continual line that you hear just before a weekly $10 entry tournament. Handicapped as well. People feel embarrassed if they get beat badly. Instead, they should be looking at their mistakes and how they could be correcting them. The mistakes always shows up in competition.

But, if he's playing a $k set?? Well, that would be overkill. There are cheaper lessons around.
