Derby City Ten Ball Invitational

Crud!!!
This year I decided to work on paying off my credit cards instead of going to the DCC. Being responsible sucks

Jay, wasn't the plan to have $2,000 entry and $20,000 added? Or was that for the next Tunica event? Or am I not remembering correctly? If that was the announced plan, why the change?

We invited past players first and then picked from the best players who have been to Derby City before. This invite list is not set in stone. Any deserving player who wishes to play can request a spot in the field.

What if all the players listed want to play....let two more in and have two tournaments? I heard several players say they would pony up the $1K but werent on the guest list.

Didnt Bartram play in one, maybe the first one?

Okay, now is the time to begin preparing for this great event. Below is a list of invited players. Please have them contact me if they want to play. If there is anyone else who wants in, you can reach me here or at jayhelfert@yahoo.com

INVITEES

Landon Shuffett, Shane, Alex, Darren, Johnny, Brandon, Corey, Rodney, Efren, Francisco, Lee Van, Dennis O., Mike Davis, Huidji See, Ralf, Mika, Warren Kiamco, Ronnie Alcano, Niels, John Morra, Stevie Moore, Rob Saez, Dennis Hatch, Mike Dechaine, Carlo Biado, Oscar D., Jeremy, Chris Melling and Nick Van Den Berg.

I am open to any other foreign players from Europe, Japan or China/Taiwan who would like to play. I just need to hear from them and know that they are interested.

Once again, there will be 16 players only, with a $1,000 entry fee and $10,000 Added! The payouts will be 1. $12,000 2. $7,000 3-4. $3,500

All matches will be played on the new Diamond ten foot tables, Races to Eleven.

I really applaud the 10 foot table concept. It makes the game a lot more challenging.

It's too bad more pool rooms don't have just one we could practice on.

So let me get this straight...

Were going to make it 10 footers instead of 9 for 3-4 tables..

Then when the semi and finals take place were going to throw them in the accu stats arena and now there on a 9 footer.

I think that kinda of stinks.. you're changing equipment.

Do it all on 10's or just keep it on the 9's...

At Tunica in July, Accu-Stats moved the 9-footer out and the 10-footer in for the 10-foot 10-ball semi-finals and finals on Friday. Then they reversed that for the 9-ball on Saturday.

Chalk that one up to the current pool economy. At this time we don't feel the players and their backers are ready. And frankly neither is Diamond. But don't be surprised to see it happen in the future.

If a player (like Chris) wants in, they need to contact me. Yes, I would have a spot for him since he did play previously.

ALL matches will be played on 10' tables! We swapped the table out in Tunica for the last three matches in the Accu-Stats arena.

Jay, I would be interested in staking at least one player if they do not have a backer (obviously this applies to certain players).

Thanks JAY

JAY,

it is cool to see this event become an official part of the derby, it adds a great deal to an already outstanding event.

Yours & others time & effort is much apriciated by those of us who enjoy watching the best of the best.

Moving the 10 footer into the tv arena is just one more indication of how much effort diamond is willing to put forth to make the derby better each year.

Looking forward to it all,

SLIM

There are always players looking for a backer for this one. Good ones too!

+1

Races to 11 would be ok, but I love the longer races. The longer the better IMO. I really enjoyed the 15. I also like when it is on the 9 footer, being that accu-stats can record more matches without having to switch tables.

Regardless, I will enjoy the event either way.

Couldn't agree more brandon... Think I've bought every match from every year... Lots of swings, moving, kicking, etc in a race to 15.... I don't ever remember having a discussion over which player got what roll after one of these matches either....

Matches at Tunica Were Great!

Hi Jay, I have been to the last 3 Derbys and was at Tunica in July. The matches on the 10 foot tables were great to watch. I have wanted to meet you to say hello but you are always busy working, and I don't like to be bothered when I am working. Diamond puts on a great tournament/event. I will be there again in January. I know it will be another good one. Maybe the US Open needs managed by a company like Diamond? They do a first rate job with their tournaments.
