Not so sure about that. You have some players like Bartrum and MIke D who are basically begging to give Jay the money right now but they are not "on the list" and need to wait for a spot to open.

Guys like Appleton, Mika, Lee Van, you think those guys wont get in? I doubt they would pass on it as they have a chance to win the whole thing and would probably not struggle to get backed into it if they needed.

Then if you really want to see the Asian contingent get into these things, if you really want to see Ko, Chang, and Wu compete then you need to give them the opportunity. It cannot be a last minute invite to guys like that, they need to plan for the event and they need to know well in advance that it is an option.

I don't think 32 would be that hard TBH. I think they could fill the event with 32 people if they market it to the players right and make it an international flavoured event. With enough players and enough money in it there is a chance of getting points added to the event for the world rankings and then all of the sudden the event becomes far more popular and players from across the sea have a far stronger case to travel to play in it.

Lee has been on the road building his bank roll... I would assume when he said he would bet his cardboard box he is willing to put skin in the game... But you are free to assume whatever you wish until he confirms or denies...

On this note.

Chris Bartrum went to the Action Room and sold 10 shares of himself to get into the event. That worked fairly well for him.

The backers get their investment back from the first $1000 and then the player gets 30% of all of the profit from that point forth and the rest of the 70% gets paid off to the backers.

How fast do you think Earl Strickland would sell out on shares of himself if he did this? How about Lee Van? Busta? Mika? Niels? Alex?

Perhaps this is the way that pool can start to shift to a new funding structure. The fans pay for the players to get into the action and then sweat on them. This would increase those fans interest in the game and thus increase viewership. It would create a way for the players to finance playing in the events.

Something like this could probably be set up formally on AZBilliards. A section of the forum where a pro player can start a thread asking for tournament entry sponsorship and sell shares of themselves to enter events. The fans that buy the shares then have a stake in the match and that player.

You could fill a 32 man field with $1000 entry easily with a system like that. Such a system would be really interesting and actually compel the pros to really practice and increase their skills because the better they are the easier it becomes to sell shares and they can ask for a larger percentage of the winnings. How fast would a guys like SVB sell out were he to offer shares? How much of a percentage of the winnings could he demand and still get buyers?

The first time the stakehorese feel there was a dump or split...that will be the end of that idea. Good idea, but some top players have pulled this crap for many years and most of them can't act well doing it. Johnnyt

Okay, there have been some changes and some additions. Those without a question mark are IN! So we have eleven confirmed players now. There are several alternates, so you may see more changes to this tentative line-up. Shaping up to be our strongest field ever!

That's going to be one hell of a field, Jay. Looking forward. Notably absent is the World 9-ball champion Thorsten Hohmann.

Here's a few, Oscar Dominguez (already invited), Thorsten (invited), Phil Burford, Justin Bergman and Brandon Shuff, in no particular order. There are also players who have turned down invitations so their name does not appear here. I prefer not to go into the reasons why they chose not to play.
