Did everybody at Galveston get paid?

I know it was billed as a big money tournament which surprised me given the current economy. Did the money come out as advertised?

I know that the players got paid in checks, but they ran out of checks and had to transfer the money by bank instead to some few players.

I'm sure I would have heard about it by now if it was a problem.

As i understnd it, prizes were reduced from those advertised but i haven't heard of any checks bouncing and i think we would have heard that by now.

Let's hope the Promotors learned from it, especially that they need to listen to those with experience. They need to downsize a little probably even though they should get a better turn-out next year. They are not going to knock'm dead with the amateur team events. League players actually work and their vacation time is alloted for one or two of the Vegas extravaganzas. It will be YEARS before that will change.

Contrary to most opinions, i dont think they need to advertise it more. Pool people get the word on events mostly through word of mouth or on AZB and are eager to jump into or attend any decent event. You are not going to get non pool people no matter what. The famous "Tournament in a Mall" and the Grand Central Fiasco proved that. I was at the mall tournament and the entire weekend, i estimate they drew 4 people in from the shoppers and i am not kidding.

alstl...Was the money advertised paid out? NOPE...not even close. Did the promoters pay off on their REVISED (read: change horses in the middle of the stream) payback schedule? Yes, as far as I know. Like Roy said, if there were bounced checks we would have heard about it from someone. The rumor is that this event will be taken over by people with a lot more experience (and credibility) running events like this, for next year. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

So is there going to be a next year for sure???

mnorwood...The unsubstantiated rumor is, NOT by the guys that did it this year (why would they? they took it in the shorts big time). Whether someone else takes it over or not...I can't say for sure, but I heard that a well-known individual (not connected with anyone in TX) will take over the reins next year. I hope it proves to be true!

I did hear from a couple of the bigger winners that there was a delay in getting their money to them. But as far as I know, they were paid in full within two weeks.

You can bet your butt, if anyone else takes over, it will be so nothing like the first one that it might as well be considered a new event. And dont expect many Filipinos under any circumstances.

Ran out of checks? These great businessmen couldn't count the number of payouts in their own event? Are you sure it wasn't Fedex?
