Did Shane cheat?

Funny how the chalk almost always seems to be in the way. I've also seen some guys that can't seem to get enough chalk on the rail. One guy had about 10 pieces at once.
Another thing is how if there are two pieces how they alwyas seem to end up together.

I don't know about the intention on the shot -- I think no one does -- but here is the current WPA rule about unsportsmanlike conduct:

6.17 Unsportsmanlike Conduct

The normal penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct is the same as for a serious foul, but the
referee may impose a penalty depending on his judgment of the conduct. Among other
penalties possible are a warning; a standard-foul penalty, which will count as part of a threefoul
sequence if applicable; a serious-foul penalty; loss of a rack, set or match; ejection from
the competition possibly with forfeiture of all prizes, trophies and standings points.
Unsportsmanlike conduct is any intentional behavior that brings disrepute to the sport or
which disrupts or changes the game to the extent that it cannot be played fairly. It includes
(a) distracting the opponent;
(b) changing the position of the balls in play other than by a shot;
(c) playing a shot by intentionally miscuing;
(d) continuing to play after a foul has been called or play has been suspended;
(e) practicing during a match;
(f) marking the table;
(g) delay of the game; and
(h) using equipment inappropriately.

Isn't "marking the table" considered the playing field? I see no problem with putting chalk on the rail to aim at....... After all, there are diamonds on the rails for aiming too..

:boring2:

It's not cheating...it's not marking the table...people do this all the time in TAP League.

:ok:

Probably not BUT I would love to see tournaments played with no diamonds.

Doubt it makes any difference except maybe in cases like this.
Where you're doing long kicks.

Other than that I'm not sure those pros ever look at the diamonds.

What an easy kick. I'm surprised he took so long to shoot it. Automatic shape on the 8 ball. By the way, this is just clickbait to promote another video. Good job, it worked.

Maybe its all about product placement for the camera. Perhaps Shane wants some of Masters Co-Op money and was just a competitors product or he just moved a cube of chalk.

Sure they do..... Its just not as obvious....

Definitely cheating. Other fouls: he didn't consult with his team captain about the shot, failed to place the patch on the pocket for the 8-ball, and didn't have his team name on his shirt.

Yeah, not even close. He didn't even look at the shot yet, and he moved the chalk to get it out of his line. SVB does not need to mark with chalk to kick in dead even 5 diamond kick (2.5 diamond kick) especially before he determines the proper kick. He does those in his sleep ;)

If you don't like Shane, he cheated. If you're a Shane fan, he didn't cheat. If you're indifferent, he probably did not cheat. Simple as that!

If it's anything like that, then the world is full of some pretty spineless people!

KMRUNOUT<-------for whom right and wrong doesn't vary regardless of who is involved

I just want to highlight that how Shane counted the diamonds on this shot is exactly how instructors show it. It's on Jerry Brieseth's A Pool Lesson DVD. You don't see the setup often, but here it was! It's the first "trick shot" I ever learned a million years ago.

It's a 2:1 ratio kick with slow follow only, but the new cloth will make it go long, especially as this kick gets higher than the 3rd or 4th Diamond. Shane started at the 5:2.5 track and made his adjustment from there, just like in Brieseth's DVD.

I also believe that simply he tried to put the chalk up table and out of the way of where he thought he was going to be kicking.

Yes, sir.
This is exactly what he did.
For those who follow the zero x kicking dvd...Shane is at the 50 - 25 line, and slow rolls it to widen the angle to hit the correct side of the three.

But the video shows the chalk around the 27 point. If Shane aimed for that he would have come up short and hit left of the pocket on the long rail.

So clearly, Shane did not use the chalk to mark the aiming point.

.
:yes:
Yes, that is allowed in TAP League and it's not marking the table.
.
Under the World Standardized Rules, it is considered marking the table and it is unsportsmanlike conduct and it could result in the offender being ejected from the tournament. This may be important to know if you ever play in something other than a TAP tournament.

For the pros in pro tournaments, marking the table is a foul, including placement of chalk for a kicking target. To remain above suspicion for this, it's better to not leave the chalk on the table.
