I am so glad that the BCA finally gave my dear friend Danny DiLiberto the recognition he deserves. I had lost a lot of respect for the BCA because of the length of time it took them to reach this conclusion. I was finally able to edit my sig line which showed my displeasure over Danny not being in the HOF. I've always been proud to call you my friend Danny, and I'm especially proud of you today!

Jose's take on the HOF

Two worthy inductees.

Amazing how Jose Parica never seems to make the cut. :frown:

I talked to Jose during a break at the MD 14.1 Open last month. I said to Jose WTF...why aren't you in the HOF? He said he did not get enough votes the last 3 times he was nominated and now he has to wait another 5 years!!! He was laughing all the time and said " Maybe when they run out of all the good new players they will let me in"!!!

Great guy to talk to...always smiling and in a good mood!!!

Just got off the hook with Double D.
He is very moved...so I told him no crying when he accepts....
...he said it aint gonna happen and he will win his next fight.

Yeah, I sometimes call him Double Dangerous.

I said that Geo Fels and Sherm will be pleased....
...he said they're good friends.

Now I got a project...gotta dig up a tape where he runs 85 on Kirk Stevens playing snooker in a Canada/US contest.
It'll be shown at his induction.
Still mad at him for finessing the 5-ball instead of just rolling it in.....
..it was 31 oz cloth for heaven's sake....
..he said yeah, he got excited and thought he was playing straight pool.

but he remembered the shot...like all great players do

Great Inductees! Danny D is long overdue and Souquet is a truly great player, his credentials are almost without equal.

Looking over the list of inductees over the years I was surprised that Lassiter didn't get in until 3 years after Mizerak. Lassiter already had a HOF career under his belt when Mizerak won his first tournament.

Danny D is fantastic on many levels. Very deserving.

I prefer to watch Ralph play under a shot clock (Mosconi Cup ) but what a great player and a gentleman. Also hugely deserving.

Bump...because this is the most significant news posted on this forum in months (IMO). Congratulations to both these fine gentlemen.

Fret not, JAM, for Jose's day will come. As you noted, these are two worthy inductees.

I am sure he will make it, but I kinda like these awards to be given in the twilight years of a person's career. DiLiberto for sure was due, Ralph? I expect that guy to win a few more major events yet.

But Jose? He is overdue for this, he really should not be kept waiting this long and leap frogged by others year after year. He is the leader of the Philipino invasion, won a ton of events, was the most dangerous money player on the planet for years. He should be inducted sooner rather then later and I am not sure a fairly young player still near the top of the game and competing in every tournament still needed to be put in over Jose...

I am reminded of a November 2004 InsidePOOL instructional article that mentioned Jose Parica. Here's a snippet:

Only a moment before Parica walked into my life, I considered myself invincible, like the novice surfer. But when I faced him...that day, there was something in his eyes that made me realize...a characteristic of true champions. People say that he started the invasion, but I think they got it wrong. Parica actually was the invasion.

I am very happy for Danny D. I know how much this tribute means to him, especially in the autumn of his life. I am glad that he is here to enjoy the thrill of this recognition.

Of course, Ralph Souquet is our gentleman pool player who greets everyone he meets with a smile on his face. He's the epitome of grace and goodwill in the pool world.

There can only be two inductees per year, I guess, and it's disappointing when our favorite choices are not voted in. I hope that Jose lives a long life and someday will be recognized for his achievements. Some still do, thank goodness. Bustie may always be my favorite Filipino champion, but to see him inducted into the BCA HOF before Jose was just plain wrong and a slap in the face to Jose. If you were to see Jose among his Filipino peers, he is always treated with the utmost respect, almost like pool royalty.

Jose and Dennis in Vegas at the IPT 2006 tournament. I call this the "Filipino Old Guard and New Guard."

Thank you for taking the time to provide an explanation of how the voting process works. It seems like the BCA Hall of Fame voting mechanism changes every few years, ......

:

In 1989 I was also able to vote. I voted for Mike sigal. Even today, I wonder how I was given that opportunity to vote in that process.
This year`s choices are good ones and their performance over the years speaks for itself.

Congratulations to this year's elected nominees. Maybe this clears the field for Jose Parica.

That's what I'm thinking....
..whined for a long time about Danny D...
Now I'm in Jose Parica's corner.

pt..<..hopes he's not turning into an activist

A "real" PLAYER gets in!!

Congratulations to both of these great and deserving players, and in DiLiberto's case, the election is in a new category, the Greatest Player wing! Danny is the first inductee in this category, (IMHO) an excellent choice for their first inductee under that title!!!

Way to go Danny, you've finally been NOTICED and RIGHTFULLY accepted, by the governing body of pool, from your generation, the BCA! Finally, after all those years of GREAT play in the real world of Professional Pool, "EVERYONE" will know your name belongs among those of the other greats in this game for all time!!! You are a GREAT PLAYER, CHAMPION, and have been a REAL asset to the knowledge base in the sport of pool!!! All of us involved in this SPORT are all blessed, that you chose to devote your life to the sport of pro pool!
LONG LIVE THE KING!!:clapping::clapping::clapping:
