Do cue values go up on Pros that use them?

Do cues typically depreciate when us mere mortals use over time, but i heard when a pro usues the cue it can go up in value. maybe double depending on who and how long they used. maybe what titles they won with it etc

i dont mean just custom, but mass manufactured as well.
any cue experts wanna chime in?
 
People might pay big $$$ for a cue owned by Mosconi or that was in the Color of Money or Mewmans from The Hustler for sure big publicity cue that add some to the value.

But I have seen many a cue owned by a top player made by a good high end cue maker and I do not believe the cue has a much higher price than other similiar cues or that they sells a great deal faster. I think a player that buys a cue to play with because of who owned it before should also buy a rabbits foot and other similiar items. The mojo stays with the player not the cue.
 
Absolutely. Just like a game worn piece of equipment in any sport.

The value of a cue can double or as much as triple if it is a cue a top pro used primarily for a good while and if it is a cue that has won championships. It also helps if the cue is on the cover of a magazine in the hands of said player celebrating said championship........

I have seen it firsthand.

I know I have 2 World Championship cues and the normal value has to be pennies. But the Value is a lot higher because of the history of the cues.
I mentioned this a couple years ago about selling them. I also mentioned it to my sons and took them off the market. The kids want them, along with the World Championship Gold Medals.
 
I think it depends entirely on who the player is, what particular event(s) the cue was used in, and what (if any) titles were won with the cue.

Earl's world championship Cuetec isn't worthy of holding up my tomatoes but would be worth large amount to a Earl fan/collector.
 
All depends on the buyer!!! Like some have said, you get a (insert pro's name) die-hard fan and the value of the cue is limitless.
 
Shane shot with mine a little at the 2010 (or was it 09?) DCC - if I were to ever sell it, I'd likely ask that the buyer ALSO pay the PayPal fees ;)
 
i own some cues that were owned by champions, and in some cases yes they are worth more, in other cases no they are not. Depends on who wants something and how bad they want it. It can be a very personal thing, therefore a narrow market. Or can be a big market if its the right history of the cue and player. Its not a yes/no kinda answere, the answere lays in the middle of the origonal question. IMO
 
I bought a purple Mali Cue for 10K. The seller told me Wilber Mosconi played with it. Did I get a good deal?
 
Not to be disrespectful an you know what's next. BUT what about Efren "Bata" Reyes cue. My god you have people here that would try to mortgage there homes for that one. Of course we are great buddies an "Bata" as he likes for me to call him said since I was looking for a new daily player he would just give it to me after the DCC. Man I must have did this in my sleep I won't even read this I'll just send. Going to get some coffee an wake up. :wink:
 
It depends on provenance.......a cue that Ralf Greenleaf used that was AUTHENTICATED as such would be worth much much more than one that say Johnny Archer used.......

so it depends on age, rarity and "legend" of player


I think one of the COOLEST cues made for a PRO for another "PRO" by one of cuemakings founding fathers.......

I was a huge Mickey Mantle fan and actually met the man as a kid.......if i got to hold that cue I might forget to breathe for a while :thumbup:

A little baseball fact: Mickey mantle hit the longest home run ever recorded in history......the ball WOULD have been the only ball to ever be hit OUT of Yankee Stadium.......there was a billboard right at the top that was previously installed and when Mantle got up to bat he smoked the ball going UP UP UP BAK BAK BAK and hit the top of the facade! Mathmataticians used formulas to derive how far that ball would have traveled if it had not hit the facade and the total length was over 700 FEET!!!!! 250 yards, some cant hit a golf ball that far! No one ever hit more homeruns from both sides of the plate either.

For the most part it really wouldn't make much of a difference. It would depend on the player, the provenance, and most of all, the buyer. Any kind of collectible is worth whatever someone will pay for it. I'm surprised that there aren't more cues out there with forged signatures but there really isn't a large market for that sort of thing.
 
Because the buyer thinks that it is something magical that will make them play just as good. This is the reason that companies pay top dollar to get someone of fame to endorse their product. There are many gullible people that believe they are good because of that product.

John your cue might retain a little bump mojo and be worth something extra to the buyer.

What I was saying is a cue bought to be played with is not worth a lot more if a name player owned it versus a cue bought to be collected and admired and not used or played only infrequently. I doubt anybody would shoot pool with the Mosconis 526 cue or play baseball with Roger Maris 61 ball or bat those are higher value collector items.

Items such as your playing cue that Lomax just made for you is real nice and I am sure that people would want to buy it just because you played with it but how much more is it worth and will that value still be there when that guy who buys the Lomax from you, John B and played with it for a year or two goes to sell it, will that cue that used to be owned by John B still have extra value over similiar quality Lomax cues. I am not sure the extra value will be there for that cue.

So for playing cues I think some but not a ton more value for cues to be collected.
