Do you bother with a chalk holder at home???

Or is it just an added inconvenience?

I'm intrigued by the Joe Porper holder. On some sites containing over 60 reviews, it seems to get 5 stars almost all the time by actual users.

I always shoot at home, so security against the chalk walking away isn't the issue; it's merely about ease of use and convenience...

Thanks for your input...

A chalk holder would make me nuts ... I don't need to fish around to either replace it or take it .... not so long as there are rails on the pool table. :)

Never. But then again, I only chalk before the game starts, never during the game.

4 pieces on the rails.....they all seem to end up in the same spot though lol

This! My home table has one piece on each rail that somehow migrate together as well. I use a chalk holder at league though; to speed up the match because there usually is only one or two pieces max on their tables and they always seem to be on the opposite side of where I need them to be.

Yes, it's part of my routine, my left hand always look for it in my left front pocket

Exactly, the pocket chalk holder had become part of my pre shot routine as well. Stay back from the table and chalk while you plan the shot, then step into the shot (eliminate the chalk to rail sidetrack). Thank you Lee Brett, Darren Appleton, Jayson Shaw for showing me the light.

I have a Brunswick Heritage table and it has wood rails. Players would slam the chalk cube into the rail and cause dents. The last time I recovered the table I refinished the rails and removed as many dents as possible. I now have the chalk in those rubbery holders that surround the five sides. It helps except for those idiots that have to slam it up side down.

In a league I use those cheap plastic holders just to help identify that it is mine because there are too many chalk stealers that never bought a piece of chalk in their life.

I never bother with chalk holder when at home because I have no table at home.

However, I switch back and forth between a home made magnetic chalk holder and a leather pouch chalk holder wherever I play pool.

The magnetic chalk holder for me shown below requires that I adhere steel washers to the bottom of the chalk. (I don't like chalk holders that have a housing around the chalk).

The leather pouch chalk holder is like the one that many snooker players use and is very practical.

If I did have a table at home, I would use a chalk holder there as well. There is nothing like the convenience of having a piece of chalk in your hands within two seconds, instead of walking around the table or looking on the floor for chalk that may have fallen off the table or for chalk that your opponent has hijacked to parts unknown.

I will NEVER go back to leaving chalk on the table rail.

I don't bother with a chalk holder at home or otherwise. If it walks or I forget it somewhere, it's just chalk.

I've never used one, but it seems as though the most natural orientation of the chalk to allow you to grab the chalk with the thumb and index finger would be in a position so that the exposed blue chalk is oriented to the rear. No??? Just seems odd that they all have the chalk surface facing away from the body.

Prolly no big deal I guess... :scratchhead:

Lose the chalk holder. It just makes you dig holes in the chalk, rather than brush the tip with the chalk.
