Do you dress up for matches?

Now that's a dress code.

Do you feel the need to look good for your matches? Just curious. I wear Jeans all the time at work and around the home, but when I play pool (even most times practice), I try to look my best with a collared shirt, decent slacks, belt shiny shoes etc. (Pinky ring , but that's another story.) I guess I am old school.

At my local league, we have barefooters... no kidding. Can't say I like it.
Looking your best never hurts, is my opinion, but then again what looks good (especially today), is subjective.

Maybe I have watched the hustler too many times.

Honest replies appreciated.

My mom always says to "dress the part you want to play." I think it applies here... if you are out playing the part of a committed, respectable pool player, then dress that way:D ;) Plus, the chicks like it better when guys dress nicely!! (added bonus)

When I was in L.A. last weekend for a convention, I went out gambling 3 nights in a row in a suit & tie.

Normally I look like a bum.

Comfort

Ever since I was little I've been about comfort. Clothes make me itch if they aren't really soft. I cut all the tags out of my shirts and skivies. I wash new clothes about 3 times before I wear them. I guess I'm a freak, but never the less, I can't play my game if I'm not comfortable. That being said I'm a shorts or jeans and a t-shirt kind of guy. I don't wear clothes with holes or anything, but I don't dress up either. I will also say that I don't play in anything high profile, mostly leagues and small tournaments.

If it's not some small local thing, then hell yes. I dress comfortably, but with an eye toward looking as good as I plan to play.

A friend of mine who plays for money daily, always comes to the pool hall in dress pants and a nice shirt. He feels as if he plays better when dressed nice and does not play as good when dressed like a bum. I personally have not dressed up for a match and probably won't. I like playing in shorts and a t shirt.

As you can see from my avatar if I'm in a tournament I wear a black polo shirt with my league's logo on the left chest and my name embroidered on the back. If I'm just going to the pool hall to shoot, nah, sweats and a Bengals jersey are my usual rags there. Then again, I'm a big guy and clothes aren't available to me in this country. I have to buy all of my clothes online from the States.

I'm with you pal!

When I play in league matches or tournaments, I am in either a polo of silk button down camp shirts, slacks and dress shoes.

I guess the way you dress falls into your "routine" for playing pool. My best year playing in tournaments, I wore the exact same outfit for every event (button down black shirt and jeans). I figured it was the most comfortable thing I could wear and it was one less thing to think about. With that being said, I also made sure I had the same routine before getting dressed...shaving..showering eating and stretching....

also..If I go to the bathroom during a tournament...I don't wash my hands...but that's for a different thread..

You can be sure I will never touch your cue....:D

i was at a local tournament and watching a tall beautiful blonde at one of the tables. i said to a friend, "how'd you like to play her wearing black stockings and heels, garter belt, etc.?" he said, " hell yeah, i don't even care what she would wear!" lmao!!

i think its all about comfort. whatever you're comfortable in, because honestly, if your not comfortable, you cannt focus.

personally i'm one of the barefooters hence the user name. granted i dont go completly barefoot cause thats gross, but i always wear socks to at least put some sort of buffer between my feet and the crud on the floor, but i just find shoes to be uncomfortable. granted i also only do this at the establiments i frequent and am a regular at where they know me, i think it would be rude otherwise.

but either way, i try and dress comfortably whether its shorts or blue jeans and a t-shirt or whatever. just a few weeks ago we had our inhouse league final tournament during slow times on saturday and sunday morning starting up at 10 am, and i went in my flannel pajama pants and a t-shirt with flip flops. i caught hell sure, but i was comfortable...

frankly i dont care how i am percieved by others as the only opinion of oneself that matters is your own.

Well a few years ago a local champion always wore a "Crate & Barrel" T-Shirt. So I joked with him that it must be the shirt.

A month or so later he comes in the pool room and throws something at me....................it was one of those "Crate & Barrel" shirts.

Guess what...................it wasn't the shirt!!! Lesson learned.

I put on my cleanest jeans with no holes in them and a new plain t-shirt. I only play as good as I feel comfortable. Shirts with collars seem to get in the way for me. And I always keep my shoes cleaned shined and ON.

For me atleast I always try to look my very best even if its just for casual playing. If you FEEL better you will play better and excel in anything you do.

Typically when I play out I'll wear a nice collared shirt in the winter and tailored slacks or if its a league night I'll wear a nice polo (lacoste) and slacks or nice jeans. I have no idea why, but I don't like to go out in public looking like a scum.

I have an idea why... because it commands respect, a great first impression and people will be more eager to meet you:D

I dress nicely for work, and many times go to play straight from there, so usually end up being the only one in the room with pants that stay up on their own and no underwear showing. You guys must see it all the time as well, playing a teen, and all you see when they are shooting is pants down to the knee and his boxer clad ass in your face.

I personally love looking at old events where everyone, including the audience, is in a top hat and suit and tie. I cringe when I see people wearing ripped pants and sleeveless shirts. To me it spells migrant laborer getting ready to pick some oranges.

The Tournaments I play have NO DRESS CODE My uniform consists of Blue Jeans (Shorts in Hot Months), and long Jean in Cold months. T-Shirt, and Tennis Shoes.

If all of a sudden a reasonalbe DRESS CODE was put in force I would comply.

I don't really dress up for matches. I just wear whatever is comfortable while playing. A white t-shirt and jordan shorts right now seems to work fine. Its either that or a t-shirt and jeans. I seem to play better when I wear fitted jeans, dont know why lol.
