do you play with your expensive cues or just collect them and play with mid range cue

I play with a Tascarella cue & love it.
I have always said cues are meant to be played with, but I can also see where a collector wouldn`t want to risk anything happening to there prize piece either. To each there own

I tend to only take a "collector" cue out to a friends or a actual pool hall. Daily player cue goes with to leagues at the bar. There are just to many obstructions around every table in the leagues I play in. I would go nuts if I caught a table edge on my back stroke and dinged a "collector" cue. Also don't really plan to play much with my 50's Hoppe, being that it is not converted.

On that note, my daily player is used in my basement, and it's only me and my dad that play there. I'm not worried of either of us damaging an expensive cue. When I go to the pool hall, it is strictly my Arnot Sneaky.

I'm just curious because I use a predator sneaky pete but am looking at 700 to 1200 price range sticks and wondering if thats a normal player or do you guys just store them after a certain amount.

What's considered mid-range and what's considered high end?

A TAD just sold for over 5K recently that is similar to the one I play with.

I have around 15 cues from $400 to $2000 some bought here. My daily player Schon R-12 would not leave the house without it. :)

Spring Is Here

I use mine in the garden for our tomato plants.

Interesting topic in that I'm actually looking at a stick on here now that's $2500 range and I'm nervous about buying cause I'm afraid I would be afraid to play with it. My current is a Schon that I paid $900 ish for and it's got some character to it for sure after 7 years. I'm a clumsy person and am OFTEN bumping things, not sure how I would feel about messing up a high end (2k + for me) stick due to my clumsiness.

My recommendation would be to consider the same cue but used or one with a few dings and patina so that you are comfortable using it.

I waited almost a year for my $3k Samsara to be built to specs. I've used it almost everyday now for the last 5 or so years.. Love it...

I rotate cues for my regular play they are in the $2k to $5k range. I like to enjoy my cues. With that said, depending where I go to play and what time of day I may choose to take a lower end cue.

Agree to all post that says if you buy the cue you play it.
Now I play with regular Predator cue but in near future looking to build my own designed custom and definitely will be playing it every time ill be in pool hall :)
I believe you need only one cue to play ( few shafts ) but if you like to collect and have nice collection than its a different story

Lol...I play my Southwest Satin every night bought it to play with and this cue was meant to be used and not put in a case.

I play one of my Ginas in tournaments and matches. My league player is a DP beater. My other two Ginas see duty mainly on my home table.

All my cues see play or there is really no reason to have them.

I play with a Schon that I bought used in 1986 and I have several cues that I don't play with, including a brand new B. Szamboti that I bought 15 years ago and has never hit a ball.

Every pool cue I own....and every cue I intend to acquire....is intended for personal play and
that's always in a pool hall since 2006 and will remain that way 'til death do part with my cues.

Matt B.

p.s. My new custom ships next week and it's definitely for personal play........Getting excited!

I play with every cue I've ever bought. This includes the southwest, Barry szamboti, joss west, all worth several grand.

No reason to buy it if I won't play with it. If I could afford a 15k Balabushka I'd play with it.

Much about the mental aspect of playing pool is geared to shooting with confidence. Playing with your favorite cue should give you a boost. Besides, would you rather have someone else use it?!

To each their own, and no offense intended....but that makes me sad to hear. One of the best and most highly sought after cues there is just sitting there, never touching a ball. I wouldn't take it to league night or anything but the occasional rack in a controlled environment seems fitting. Especially a Szamboti...it's not like it's an art cue or something, Szambotis seem made to be players cues. Pretty sure there is zero chance I could own that for 15 days and not get in at least a little table time with it, can't imagine how you managed to restrain yourself for 15 years.

All of my cues are in the sub $500 range and are custom. One way I get away with this is that I don't like inlays, so there goes the major price cut.
