Does anyone actually try to play Keno Pool seriously?

One of the places I go regularly has a Keno pool table. I'm always shocked to see 20's trading hands, as the game looks completely and utterly random. These guys would bank a ball up the ramp, then sit back for a few minutes watching it bob and weave and wander like a drunk hobo before eventually settling into a hole or rolling back down the table. I could see almost no chance of anyone making a ball in a slot on purpose.

Looks like fun to bang 'em around, but you could just flip a coin and it'd be faster.

Keno and Amos & Andy are some fast action games. a 10-20 games moves some serious money around.60-120 will really crash a bankroll. their are a lot of players out there that can pop the ball in those holes with deadly accuracy.

Weenie Beenie would carry one of those boards around with him and he was almost unbeatable. I am not sure what the actual skill was but he would play it with anyone and usually win.

Keno Board?

I played that 20 years ago in a room I managed. Where can I get a board and book on how to play it? I know it's gonna be a thin book! No one here has ever heard of Keno and I'd like a book to prove it's not just "made up" rules.

I've seen it played at a local room back in NY, for 5 and/or 10, I think. I've not seen it played often but there was always cash changing hands and the games lasted a while.

If you owned a board most rooms would not let you bring it in. In some states a Keno board, sometimes called Amos&Andy, is considered a gambling devise like a crap table or slot machine.

Keno and Amos & Andy are two different boards and different games.
most states considered the boards a layout, but a lot of rooms had them.
Beenie carried a keno board to play rolla ball not keno.he was a good roller.
Beenie got killed so many times playing Amos & Andy he went to rolla ball, bought a keno board to take home and practice. I wish Beenie was still with us.

You can find rules for keno HERE

And here is one source for a KENO BOARD

I think one of our members makes them as well but can't remember who. Do a search and something will probably come up.

Part of the allure of keno is that new players don't believe that it's a game of skill. If there are 10 or more playing they also don't notice that one or two ppl are taking the bulk of the money. Keno is most definitely a game of skill.

My favorite line about keno came from an old man that I walked up to as he was at the table with a fistful of cash. He said, "If ya want to know how to turn a big stack of cash into a little stack of cash....start playing this game."

So is there anything anywhere about the strategy of it? Is it just banking carefully with good speed control? It seems much harder to pop a ball in those slots vs. popping it into a hole, and I already have trouble with full table banking. What are some of the strategies?

Anyone that can hold a cue can play keno. There's no special skill involved but knowledge of how to play and good ball speed control gives an "edge". In most cases you won't have a straight shot to the board so knowing how to bank helps. Click the video link or my sig for more videos on how the game plays.

The game is simple until a ball that you thought would drop in a hole - doesn't. Good change of pace game for 3-4 players at a buck or two a game with some cold ones. If you have big bucks talk to Fatboy about his games. Definitly a change of pace from regular pool, good game for the house to get the kids involved in some family fun and can be addictive.

Highly skilled Game.

Hi, I don't play Keno, But, I know/knew the best Keno players in Hawaii.
It is a highly skilled game..
If you do not know what the 'KENO LINE" is, you don't know how to play this
game correctly..

The guys rather play KENO than 9 Ball because they can catch more guys at once..

Long time ago, A big guy just ripped off a Drug dealer for $11,000.00
He came to the poolroom and lost it all in 4 hours, at $100.00 KENO..

Then, he asked the guys if he can borrow money from them.. :o

Ask Jay Helfert, at the LA open what happened when Weenie Beenie pulled out his Keno board, inserted it on the table after Tadamey won the event. :groucho:

Threre's no standard rulebook or "correct" way to play keno pool. Different places have their own local rules. There is an element of skill involved but "highly skilled" is an overstatement.
