Dress Codes at the BCAPL

I'd have to agree with Andrew on this one for sure. If you are dressed nicely I don't see why they would single her out. I have played in a few BCA National events myself and saw too many instances where people were not close to dress code and were not addressed. She would have been in the top percentage of the nicer dressed players IMHO.

you would think the refs would have much more pressing things on their plates to tend to than to *proactively* go after someone who actually looked nice in order to flex their dress-code muscle.

The spirit of the dress code is to try to have people look nice and presentable. She met that very easily.

Go beat down a slob. ;)

Lou, does your wife wear collared shirts? I knew you took that butch comment personal. Sorry bud.

If nobody made a fuss over things, nothing would ever improve. You would never see change. Professionals would still be wearing tuxedos at tournaments and still looking like goddamn fools. No, it's not my event. Thanks Captain obvious. If I had an event/company/service, and things could be better... you bet your ass I'd listen and consider it. But until someone speaks up about a problem, you'll never know you have a problem. It's 2014, lets dress like it. Including you... like you went wild at Kohl's in 1996 and just stuck with it.

I don't expect you to understand, but I sure do expect a reply. You gotta have the last word, that's fine.

If my wife played pool, which she does not, and entered a CSI event, she'd have the common sense to comply with the tournament dress code.

I've never stepped inside a Kohl's but it must be a better place to shop than clownsupplies.com where apparently you get your duds.

it's over
you lost

Fashion police came to play in a Clinton era rugby. Good shootin pal.

You might not have liked my rugby but at least I didn't have to pull up to the Rio stuffed into a tiny car with a dozen other clowns.

You say it was a dress, the ref saw it otherwise, end of story.

Lou Figueroa

Lou you see a lot of shirts on girls that go down almost to their knees?
It was a dress worn with stretch pants for warmth & to avoid any potential inappropriate views up her dress due to the awkward positions one might need to get into to reach a shot.
The Ref was an idiot period end of story.
They should have requested to speak with Bill Stock so someone with some common sense would make the proper decision.
As far as I am concerned CSI owes them $40

I find it just fascinating and inspiring that someone at your stage in life had aquired so many skills and retained so much talent from fashion to comedy... I bet you're just a hoot at your senior home. Just a hoot! Bet you're just a blast during bingo.

Good luck with that.

The ref made a call. Final. No appeal. Get over it.

I owe you an apology. You said: “ If nobody made a fuss over things, nothing would ever improve. You would never see change.”

So listen, I just got off the phone with Mark and he said, “Cleary is right. People should be able to dress how they want so next year we’re going to have the Clown events so people can dress how THEY feel is ‘appropriate.’ Cleary will fit right in. We’re going to have Unicycle Eight Ball and an Animal Balloon event where the player will have to blow up and twist a balloon into the shape of a pool cue and then play 10 Ball. Cleary and his partner can dress the way they usually do.”

So, viola!

You made some noise and now you’re set! You can wear your usual size 20 big floppy clown shoes and loud obnoxious clothes and *no one* is going to DQ you. Hell. Go ahead and wear your big red round nose too. Enjoy, you’ve earned it : o)

waytogo, kid

I was booted out of the main room and the mini tournament room because of my paint splattered vans shoes. After that, nothing really surprised me.

Good luck with that.

Lou you are full of "you know what Sir"
A player has every right to appeal a Ref's decision.
When a Ref calls a hit the ruling is final because it's a snap decision based on something that can not be recreated.
However in a matter of Dress code, Equipment, etc....... a player has the right to appeal the Ref's decision to the head Ref. which would be Bill Stock in this case.

I just had to make a response.

First of all - Mr JMurphy - our refs are not idiots.
quote: "The Ref was an idiot period end of story."

Bill Stock will try to get a response in the next week or so.

But everyone needs to know something. Our dress code has evolved - from pevious years and experiences. We dont make tough rules just to have them there.

I remember several years we tried to 'loosen up' the dress code and let 'common sense' prevail.

It was proven to us that 'common sense' is not so common. That year about half of the Refs time was spent addressing dress code 'interpretations' and enforcement.

THAT is a waste of time.

I agree that Cleary's partner looked nice. BUT our dress code would look like a Sears and Roebuck catalogue if we tried to describe all dress code options.

It is unfortunate-but it is the result of previous years abuses and experiences. Can we do better - probably.

But JMurphy - please treat us respectful if you want to be treated in a respectful manner.

Mark, thank you for your response.

My only argument for this issue is this. Your only goal is to get people to dress better. She looked great and it shouldn't have been an issue. I very well could have caused a huge stir and got you, bill or Ozzie to the table... But I fixed it by buying a polo.

My biggest suggestion is that women don't wear collared shirts and most don't wear sleeves. Take a look at WPBA professionals for your female dress code and I believe you'll improve the look of women.

Guys, everything is fine. As you saw, I looked spectacular.

Mark, with an entire year until the next nationals, I'll do this. I will personally present what I believe is a solution for the dress code to you and Ozzie, privately in the form of a video. An entire presentation just for you. Something that I believe moves pool in general forward. I will be picking the mind of both male but especially female players and put a good amount of time into this. You don't have to agree with it, you just gotta watch it. I think after what I present, the look of pool players could take a large step forward.

I'll be in touch.

Cleary, I remember seeing you two playing in your doubles matches. What caught my eye first was her beauty and how well she was dressed and then how well you two played together.

A few years ago I witnessed the very same situation like what happened to you two. A lady was dressed very classy but asked to change to a collared top. When she came back she portrayed just the opposite image of what I'm sure CSI was aiming for.

Thank you for the kind words. It was just a backwards situation but we did have fun and played good together.

Mark I'm sorry I took a cheap shot at "A Ref" not all your Refs.
IMHOP that Ref made a bad call as it relates to your dress code.
The BCA dress code is pretty simple women's dress are not required to have collars
she was wearing a dress and the Ref made a bad call.
