Duramith Balls, Color Issue

I just rec'd a new set of Duramith Tourney Balls in TV color.

My eyesight has become pretty bad over the last few years and besides blurry and wavy (I need the 7) I also have developed a problem with color differentiation.

To me, the new Duramith TV set features a pink 4 and orange 5 that are much closer in color to each other than my Centennial TV set (see below).

The Centennial 4 looks to me more like bubble gum pink, and the Duramith 4 seems much more orange toned.

Spread out on the table, I def have to go examine ball numbers to make sure I'm on the right ball.

With such a problem live in my rec room, I can't imagine it could be easy on a stream to distinguish these balls.

Anyone else notice this?

I might end up selling these and getting the standard colors.

Oh, and btw, they play wonderful. :)

best,
brian kc

What light bulbs are you using? I've seen these under good true white lights and they are obviously different.

I agree that the Centennial 4 is "pinker" and a better differentiation for sure.

I would get the Duramith set in standard colors anyway, but that's just me.

The Duramith color is a bit closer to the 5 than the other set, but by a pretty small amount, of course looking at it through the camera then on my monitor, I'm sure the colors in person are different anyway.

It's likely that no two people on the forums will see the same colors since their monitors, settings and video cards all would present them a slightly different color.

I will say that I can see a difference, enough where you may need to look again to catch the colors on the Duramith. And I have a very high end laptop screen since I'm using a workstation class laptop with a pro video card and scree, so the colors I see are probably as close to what your camera saw as anything anyone else would see.

It's a Diamond light with all their florescent bulbs.

After I asked I saw the reflection in the balls and saw fluorescent bulbs. Those are pretty white. Maybe when I saw them in person not it was an older run? This was 2 years ago.

Yep, the Aramith T 4 ball seems more salmon colored than the straight pink Cent 4 ball. Not terribly different though. Are all the other ball colors the same for each set (the 5 balls look like a match)? And how about the match between the two 12 balls and the 4 & 12 balls in each set i.e. does the 4 ball in the T's match the stripe on the 12 ball?

Can't say if this is normal or not, my sets of both Cents and Tournaments are traditional colors.

^^^^^ ME TOO!!!!!
My Centennials and Aramith Tournament Duramith set are both standard colors. One thing I definitely noticed between the 2 sets is the Duramith set stays way nicer/cleaner longer than the Centennials. That's using a Diamond polisher and Aramith ball cleaner on both.

the pink and orange balls as well as all other balls in these sets, comparing same-colored solids and stripes, are consistent.

but as stated in the op, duramith colors are slightly diff than cents.

I can live with a difference in all other colors on the duramiths except for the 4 & 5 which are too close, imo.

Here is a virgin standard color Tournament standard set for your comparison. Never taken out of the box. I just took the picture under my Brunswick fluorescent light, no flash, iPhone camera.

BTW, I'm color blind. The Tournament set to me, is head and shoulders better than ANY other ball set on TV, for color differentiation. I'm not sure if I was seeing the standard Tournament set, or the TV color Tournament set though. Its the only set I can actually follow the commentators. The Cyclop set is by far the worst in this regard, to me.

regardless of the brand, Aramith or Brunswick, I think pink is not a good color for the 4 in a TV set. I've met too many people who can't tell 4 from the 5 both on telly and from the stands. Another thought in regard with monitors and other stuff, I guess different TV cameras might transfer colors differently, thus resulting in color distortion, and again, mixing 4 and 5.

There is nothing wrong with the traditional colors and balls. No need for TV balls today. Just another way of getting into your wallets for something not needed to play poolJohnnyt

There was a definite need before HD cameras were the norm.

Some people still want to stream with regular cameras and subpar lighting so they definitely help.

Brian,

I really like my new Duramith TV balls, enough that I would trade my
Brunswick TV balls for another set of them. ;)

Great post and thread. this was a topic of discussion more than once at the turning stone last week.
One case in particular, I was sitting with a group watching an almost three hour match between a close friend of ours, Brian Holmes, and Steve Moore. After a while, our eyes started to play tricks. Brian was left a full table shot on the three, with cue ball on the rail. he nailed it and we cheered as the four was a hanger with automatic position on the five and a guaranteed run out. But when he lined up on the other ball we realized we all thought the pink 4 was the Orange 5. And we collectively groaned and cursed the tv colors.

I started to think it was out eyesight from the stands, but now that you posted those photos, they really are extremely close in the color spectrum. And with florescent lights not all colours pop the way they should.

For the rest of the weekend, I find myself double checking what was four ball and five ball. I'm sure it was interesting on the stream.

So you aren't alone in this problem. I say traditional colors only from here on out.

Yes, I think they were Aramith Tournament TV balls on the streamed table at Turning Stone, and distinguishing between the 4 and 5 was difficult.

I trade a standard set of cyclop ball and a Schon shaft you can sell for $100 for one of these sets. They look cool. Other stuff to trade too. Or we can bet something. Nice balls.
