My understanding is that Earl will miss the Derby in favor of attending the Chinese 8-ball event. Same thing for Appleton, Hohmann and Deuel.

That's too bad. Makes me wonder how many big names will skip the USBTC in Reno in favor of Manny's 10-ball tournament in the Philippines.

Probably nearly all of the players that usually play in international events being that Manny's event is 10 ball and I believe is WPA sanctioned as a world championship.

I was hoping the BCa would have announced which three events were going to have WPA points here in America early (I believe they were granted three events of their choice and the first was turning stone).

Is Derby WPA points worthy? Of course.

That sucks. Looking at the WPA calendar on their site there are a lot of weeks they could have held that tournament and not directly conflicted with the USBTC. I won't pretend to know the politics involved with all of this but I think there's at least a chance its not an accident.

I believe that this is incorrect. I think it's a small field event in Stage 2 and it's hard to imagine any top pro going there just to try to get in the main draw by playing in Stage 1.

Yes, there is a second Chinese 8-ball event beginning on 1/23 for Stage 1 and, I believe, 1/25, for Stage 2.

I'm not sure the WPA had much to do with the scheduling other than if you are promoting an event under their sanctioning (i.e. a world championship) your dates are protected from them sanctioning another event at the same time. I'd imagine it was Manny who chose the dates. I got the impression from the way I heard news of all this that Manny announced the event and it was subsequently sanctioned as a world championship. Can't recall if the dates were announced before the news of the sanctioning. But that leads me to believe the WPA's involvement was after the fact when Manny applied for and received the sanctioning.

Please correct me if this is wrong. As I said, I'm not sure.

In any case, I agree it is at a minimum unfortunate.

Who won the first China's Open.
Any Americans do well ??

It was named the 2015 World Chinese 8-Ball Masters.

1st -- Yang Fan
2nd -- Zheng Yubo
3rd -- Gareth Potts
4th -- Wang Peng

Earl Strickland was the only player from the USA in the field. He finished 2nd to last in his Stage 1 (round robin) group of 6 players, and did not make it to Stage 2.
