Earl imploding in the World Pool Masrers

LOL, agreed, but one of them won't and will win a nice sum of money for less work than a tournament. IMHO.
And the other guy is out a week of his time and just lost his room rent. Neat.
Or, he was getting backed. How long before the backers just play each other?

You do know these guys have backers right?
They really can't lose, but still they try to win. Gotta keep the backers happy.

Yes, I'm aware of backers but if they weren't making money in action then they wouldn't play.

Same backers bet on horse races, but you'll never see them being the jockey on the horse🤣

I hosted 4 pro exhibitions at my room. The one with Earl was absolutely packed. He came in 5 minutes before the match, fully tapes up. Beat SVB 11 to 7 and 10 minutes later was gone. Just awesome!

I've been attending Pro tourneys for about 30 years and whenever Earl was playing, his bleacher area or stand location was packed; you look around at the other seats and nothing. Now I like Earl despite his faults and tantrums and when you watch him on the table he is amazing.

Back in the day he was incredible...fearless even. Now he's just trying to do the best he can...and every once in a while the old fearless Earl comes alive and it's like magic. If he were 35 years younger he would give more than some of these younger guys can handle. Just my opinion...

The only other player I enjoy I enjoy watching as much is Efren.:)

Many people go to car races to see the crashes. Many people go to hockey games because they like to see the fighting. Wrestling was huge in the 70's and 80's because fans loved watching the circus. There are other examples, but I think you get the point.

Do you think it's possible that people flock to Earl's table just to see the sideshow? If the answer is yes, is THAT what we want pool to become?

Look, I have absolutely nothing against Earl Strickland. He is without a doubt the finest 9-ball player to have ever graced the sport of pool. I have never met him personally, but I believe those when they say he is a great guy to be around away from a tournament table. I just don't think it's okay for him to be sitting in his chair being vocal (sometimes to the point of insulting/condescending) towards opponents or fans while the other contestants are sitting in their chairs acting like the professionals they are perceived to be.

If every pool player acted like Earl does with his tableside (bad) manners, pool would quickly become nothing more than a circus show for the casual fan, no longer worthy to even be called a sport anymore.

And....why don't the other players act up and raise hell tableside? Probably because like myself, they learned growing up than when you lose your turn at the table, you sit in your chair and STFU and be reasonably still. Give your opponents the respect they're due as you would want in return. When I was coming up through the pool halls in my youth, his tableside manners could very well get you hurt.

Just my thoughts....not an Earl hater at all. I just would like pool to continue to be a gentleman's game and retain its professionalism.

Best post in this thread.

When was pool gentleman's game!
Maybe 3 cushion billiards between a few millionaires in the 1800s. Sure then they were betting high.

Pool been going bad ever since they have been fixing it's image.

Who wants to watch abuck of eurorobots run racks?

When I was playing tournaments back in the late 80's early 90's they had a rule the opponent MUST be seated and remain quiet while the other player is at the table. It's common courtesy.

Oh, man, I love this term" "eurobots." Whoever coined this term, it's PERFECT!

But do you think he might ever get good enough to run an 8-pack of 10 ball against a champion in a tournament?;)

Can he put an 11 pack together on "national television" during match play with the equivalent of what was a million dollars back when EARL ...."DID"?

Let's not forget that Earl didn't get to use a magic rack.....etc...etc... back then.

Just imagine how many racks Earl would have run through in his prime with today's setup.

Bob, if you dig through my thread/post, you'll find a thread I started saying that I believed that Kaci has the potential of being the next goat after he get way more experience under his belt.

Pretty much entire forum told me I was crazy...lol... yep, the kid is a beast but, he ain't GREAT when comparing him to someone like Earl in his prime and playing "9 ball"....NOT GONNA HAPPEN anytime soon.

Either you were joking or you need to put the pipe down for just a bit.

Earl's 11-pack was not televised.

Earl broke in some number of nine balls during the 11-pack which was certainly assisted by the fact that template racks were not in use and Earl was racking for himself at the start.

I was poking fun, but in some ways Kaci's 8-pack was more impressive than Earl's 11-pack as a single accomplishment. That doesn't make a career.

I broke and ran 7 once for $10. Spotted a guy the 7 and 8.

Didn't Bustamonte say his high break and run was 6?

My memory is bad and I'm too lazy to research it, but I thought that one of Earl's outs was on a combination shot.

I kind of thought you were poking fun at me since your aware of the high regard I hold Earl's in-his-prime 9 ball game.

I'll never forget how effortless he made a 6, 7, 8 and even 9 packs look with big $$$ in the middle.

Not many of today's pros can keep their stuff together at that level of pressure.

That's because it's pressure to them, it was natural for Strickland.
