Earl Strickland/John Schmidt altercation at BCA

actually what happened is i was having a hard time racking them tight and i was looking at the first three balls real close . i knew earl would look at the rack and i wanted to make sure the first three were tight.problem was i did not look at the back three very close and in earls defense they were loose.now earl hates me i know ,but all he had to do was ask and i would have racked them again and probably apalogized.instead he calls the ref over and wont let me rerack them and starts telling everyone im a cheater and a total piece of shit.anyway i have little respect for earl for many reasons but in fairness i did give him a bad rack accidentally and he blew it out of proportion and handled it badly as usual.anyway talk to you guys later john schmidt
well john then why would you play him anyways he has a temper problem john he got fired by cuetec j-ssales for smashing there shafts

What I meant was that John got rusty in his racking abilities playing that match because he wasn't doing much of it.
LOLz...I would have went over to Earl and said "Sorry, maybe if you would win more games I'd remember how to rack 'em right." ;)

Probably because he was playing in a tournament and didn't have much choice..

Get rid of 9-ball and play 10-ball. Racking solved and you have a game that doesn't favor the break. Johnnyt

It's coming. ESPN doesn't like it though. They like the fast racks and quick matches (Race To Seven...UGH).

More games in less time... that's the advertiser's gold mine when it comes to televised sports. That's why after every football play you get a 35 second huttle for commercial breaks (when calling a play takes about 6 seconds... just watch Peyton).

John, As Usual, You Are The Class Of Any Field

I SAW THAT MATCH AS WELL AND DESPITE JOHN'S ASSERTION THAT THE RACK WAS LESS THAN PERFECT; IMAGINE HOW IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HANDLED IF THE ROLES WERE REVERSED? YOU WELL INTENTIONED FOLKS THAT STAND UP FOR "WACKO" BECAUSE HE PETTED YOU OR SIGNED YOUR T-SHIRT SHOULD BE HONEST TO YOURSELF. MR. STRICKLAND HAS SOME ISSUES THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH POOL AND WE PAY TO WATCH HIM PLAY POOL AND NOT HARRASS OLD LADIES AS HE DID AT DCC, ASIAN'S AT 2006 DCC, BREEDLOVE AT DCC 2007, ETC. HE WAS A JERK AT 19 AND HE REMAINS EVEN WORSE NOW. WHOEVER PICKS THE MOSCONI CUP TEAM SHOULD BE SHOT IF THEY SELECT HIM AGAIN UNLESS HIS NEW "COMEBACK" IS INCREDIBLY SUCCESSFULL AS A MAN NOT JUST A PLAYER.

AS A HUMAN BEING I WISH HIM WELL BUT AS A STATISTICALLY INCLINED OLD MAN, NFW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CG:eek:

Holy moly, turn the caps off man :)

I've seen Earl in some very upstanding matches (as one of my video posts shows in a different thread), so I know the good sportsman is inside of him, it's just that sometimes his childishness takes over and that is what people hang onto.

Like I said in the other post, he is basically the Phil Hellmouth of pool. He doesn't have many outbursts, but when he does, they are memorable :) Sadly though, like Phil... I believe Earl might become one of the players that becomes a high ticket item just to see if he blows up that match.

It's good for the advertisers and sponsors who are making money off of him playing to have any attention at all, be it good or bad... but he always gets a negative wrap from the serious players. That is the situation as I see it...

I make fun of Earl alot and he makes it so easy. I could clog this forum with jokes about the glasses, gloves and tape. Trash talking is common in nearly every sport. His behavior is unsportsmanlike and at times childish, but its entertainment.

I also percieve Earl as I do many other people I consider to be genius - he's eccentric. Greatness is often times accompanied by eccentricity. The threads on earl's latest flaps are fun to read but I don't take any of it too seriously.

Oh by the way-someone said he is no longer shooting with a cuetec. What is his new cue?

jimmy,

I agree with you that John Scmidt is a classy guy and also a real gentleman.

And I did not mean to, or try to "tear you to pieces" on that other Strickland thread. I got upset, just like you did. Go read those posts again, how you wrote and how I wrote. You blew up, not me. You wanted the obscene gesture and did the name calling. We each handled it our way, and to me, it's over. If you feel like I owe you an apology, then I must, so I am sorry if I appeared to be just whacking you. I sincerely don't want you to feel like you can't post your opinion. Yours is as valid as anyone elses, and so is mine. If you look thru some of my other posts, I have defended "The Pearl" a lot against others as well, not just you. You're just the only one who thru a fit.

Schmidt is one of the really good guys in pool. If Earl did what Williebetmore said he did (and Willie is one of our venerated posters here) than he must have done it.
Why do you insinuate every time that i blew up,you haven't seen me mad. This is computer talk.Get over it,you have your opinion,I have mine.Done.

Naw. Earl's really funny about racking balls. The first time I ever saw him compete in person was in Maryland. He wasn't pleased with his break and was trying to perfect it during the offs at practice time. Whether it was the equipment or what, he just couldn't get the break going, and as most 9-ball players would agree, without a break in 9-ball, well, you better be one hell of a straight shooter if you want to win. :D

So he proceeded to wipe each ball with a white cloth individually before he racked each time he was breaking, and by golly, the break started working. :o

I remember commenting to Larry Lisciotti, who was present at this event, how odd it was to see a pool player wiping each ball individually, thinking he'd agree with me, but much to my surprise, he had a dead-serious look on his face and said sometimes even a speck of dirt can affect the break. He understood Earl's plight completely.

Me personally, when I'm breaking balls, trying to hit 'em with all my might, I'm lucky to hit the head ball today. It's kind of embarassing when you give it all that you got for a break and you miss the whole cue ball, too. :o

How about that European style of breaking?! Kind of a hop like movement at the end. LOL

Ya see,I don't mind hearing good things about the guy.thx Jam.:D

I USE CAPS AS I WAS TOLD WHEN I LIVED IN ENGLAND TO STOP AS I WAS "YELLING" AT THE READER; I WANT TO YELL AT THE BRITS TO WAKE THEM UP AND I NEVER DO WHAT I AM TOLD TO DO. TELL CUETEC HOW GOOD "WACKO" IS FOR THEIR CUE BUSINESS WHEN THEY HAVE THE CLASSY ALLISON AS THE FEMALE REP. HOW OFTEN DO YOU WATCH HIM? HE IS ALMOST ALWAYS WHINING AND/OR INSULTING OPPONENTS, FANS, REFEREES, POCKETS, HIS GLOVES ARE BROKEN, ETC. HIS CUE SPONSOR FOR THE BCA DECLARED FOR THIS TOURNAMENT ONLY; THINK THEY WERE TESTING HIM?

Well, they are the experts, look at everything they have done to improve pool..........??????!!!!!!! I'll have to get back with ya on that one.

Hey Earl is an American champion I thought he could do what he wants?

I guess now you are waiting for someone to say, "Do you want to play Earl some 9 ball for a couple of dimes?"

You'd be all over that wouldn't you? :)

Nah, I'd never play anyone like him for money even if I was stealing.

But yeah I'd play him at snooker if he was gagged, I'm sure he'd be all over that also! ;)

VBG.

Well at least you're willing to play him....

Maybe you could play some 9 rocket with a spot of say, "each time your opponent speaks, you get ball in hand whether he is shooting or you are shooting". :D

...

By calling Earl the Phil Hellmouth of pool isnt really helping. Phil is a complete dick and totally full of himself. Sounds familiar.

Also, you cant say Earl "doesn't have many outburts". He has one of his fits or tirades almost every tournament it seems now. I wouldnt call it a high ticket item for those who are fans of the sport, pool players who want to see a match dont want to see a whiner go off and ***** about every little thing. They dont want to see a player insult the other player. they dont want to see a player threaten another player by raising his cue towards them. They dont want to see a player insult another players family just for being there watching.

Dont get me wrong, it makes for good tv and is great for the non pool playing audience to get them to stop on the channel as they are flipping through, but I dont think pool players watch pros play to see them get upset and whine and moan and call people names and act like a 10 year old.

John,

I met you briefly at the inside pool party at Valley Forge. You got a ton of class man and handled a shitty situation well. Good on you, let the whiner ***** and moan, it only makes him look like more off an ass.

So did he apparently...

Also, don't put American in front of Champion when describing Earl, he already does enough to make our great nation look bad.
